You are absolutely correct! Many of the more expensive items have been removed from Carnivals offering altogether, ie, Seafood tower (shrimp and ahi tuna salad with salmon) as well as the roasted salmon option on the brunch menu. Additionally, brunch serving times ere reduced. These changes have been slowly happening behind the scene to cut expenses and not to draw too much attention to them. The sautéed mushrooms are gone from Guys. And room service options have been reduced while slipping in small additional charges. Now, I must admit that I get it. Whether the government admits we are in a recession with record high inflation doesn’t make it less so. It is what it is. Not spoiling for a political debate. Just speaking openly and honestly about the fact that the cruise industry must cut expenses and make changes to stay profitable. That is all. Great job on your analysis and being honest with cruise line guests. Hopefully the economy will improve and the cruise industry can eventually bring back our favorites and remove additional charges like $3 popcorn.
The whole lobster thing is amusing, when you think only a century, or so, ago, it was a poor person food, basically a throwaway item, and even served to prisoners.
Those lobster tails are so small so I understand why some people order a few. Switching to cold water lobsters is a good move. BTW…the mic works just fine.
They don’t want to give you lobster in the MDR when they are trying to get you to open your wallet in the specialty restaurants.

I wonder how much lobster has been thrown out because of people who order too much and throw it away. This kind of action is totally irresponsible and could result in a lobsters becoming an endangered species. The cost of all this waste as times get worse is probably more than the cruise lines can now afford.

WORRY ABOUT WHAT YOU EAT.NOSEY MUCH?
I like Carnival's solution to attempt to contain waste. Although, unlimited entree's was always a nice perk, in reality, I could never eat more than 2. $5 for the third entree seems reasonable to me. As far as the upcoming recession, If we continue talking about like everyone is, it will probably become self fulfilling!
I totally agree with this. My last cruise I was watching people ordering a ridiculous amount of food. I think I like carnivals after the second order. But also a lobster tail for 16.99 isn't a bad deal. But I might be a little bias because I work in food service.
@ladysworld4335

Yes the amount of food wasted is ridiculous!!
Note to Carnival Cruise lines. You must create and make better food and the buffet. Each time I cruise with Carnival that buffet food goes down in quality and taste and variety The seasoning and the flavor is often not as the dish is supposed to be made. It's a little off I don't know if it's using poor quality ingredients skipping on ingredients substituting ingredients in preparation. But you got to bring the buffet on the lido deck a lot more delicious. I'm going to start asking for money to be taken off the cross of my cruise because I'm not going to eat that crap. I would rather eat at the cruise ports some authentic food whether it be in Jamaica, Mexico, Belize, Columbia, the Bahamas. And I'll bring my own food at least I know it'll be tasty
Hi J. As always I appreciate your insight into the changes on cruise ships. It will not stop me from cruising in any way. As a matter of fact I have 5 already booked through 2024. I agree with what RC and Carnival are doing. There is a lot of food waste on ships. It’s always been that - I paid for it mentality. I’m not a big lobster eater but I absolutely love lobster bisque. I don’t mind paying the extra for the additional either. J you say this all the time, the house always wins, which is why you don’t gamble. If you’re living and breathing and live on this earth, you know ALL companies are in business to make money - not lose it. This is the cruise ships way of asking all guest to be mindful of waste. I am embracing it.

I am not going to judge others over their eating habits. That's their life, not mine. That being said, I couldn't eat more than one entree, after having one or 2 appetizers.
These changes are little crazy. The lobster thing makes sense but the 2 entree free and then charge extra is absurd. Thats one of the joys of cruising. Its all included but now it isn't. If the cost truly did go up as i'm sure it did, then increase the price of the cruise $20 or $30 to keep the same cruise experience. I'm on the celebration in a couple weeks. I will make sure order more apps to cover for the 2 entree limit.
On NCL there is no more lobster night in MD. Lobster is in only two special dining rooms at $25.00 extra plus 20% gratuity.
I don’t eat seafood at all. I wish they had better selections for people like me. I’m tired of always having to eat a not so great steak or a dried chicken breast.
Thanks for the update. Agree that the times are changing. Lack of fuel is going to have a major impact everywhere.
I was on the Symphony last week and they had the "test menu" which the food was absolutely disgusting. I paid good money for the cruise and didn't expect to be eating at the Windjammer or eating pizza !!! I heard they we're going back to the more classic food items on the current cruise that left on Sat. This was my 10th cruise on Royal but I'm not sure I would go back in the future. At Chops you could not get more than 1 item for the main, app, or dessert. Service took over 1 1/2 for the food to be served, people were walking out and complaining about the service.
Carnival, pay for 3rd and 4th of same item in mdr. No problem, I mean I have a fairly large appetite, not as big as when I was younger but I can still shovel it in. I have no problem with them charging extra for additional items of the same item, two is still quite a quite a bit to eat along with appetizer and desert. But like you say it is the beginning. I have a bigger issue with them trying to limit bacon and not having it every day on the breakfast buffet!

Totally agree with the cruise lines charging more, lobster is classed as a luxury item, so you would pay in an upmarket restaurant, so why not on the ship. Some people are just too greedy.
You should be able to exchange the bad mics if they're from Amazon usually 90 days exchange. We just got off the Vista and yep they do charge for the 3rd small lobster

Got off a RC ship last week. There is not a single dish on RC menu that I would pay extra for. Not even the lobster tail. I was more impressed with the fact that they served oxtail in the Windjammer. Oxtails in the U.S have been unaffordable for sometime.

**** That "cheap mic" Sounds GOOOOD! IJS... and BTW, I see you with your " Melanin At Sea" Hoodie on!!! #salute
I enjoyed lobster in the MDR on my Princess cruise in 2019; DELICIOUS, I would pay for the second one if wanted.
So I just saw a popular cruise blogger couple take zip lock bags to Coco Cay just so they could bag a bunch of cheese sticks and chicken sandwiches to take back to their house to eat after putting them in their air fryer (they said it). I think that’s just greedy as fcuk. Eat what you want while you on the cruise but taking zip lock bags to take food home to put in an airfryer sounds EXCESSIVE.
I’ve never been on a cruise, and don’t know if I ever will, but I do enjoy these videos.
NCL doesn't serve lobster in their dining rooms unless you pay a surcharge. They stopped serving lobster in 2016.
Funny we are talking bout this, just got a email survey from Royal to fill out and it was focused on the whole MDR experience and food.
I was recently on a Princess Cruise there was a Noticeable absence of Crab except for crab cakes! On our Princess Cruise unfortunately my family was booked for Dinner at the Princess Discovery’s Steakhouse(which was a $29 per person upcharge) at the same time as “ Lobster” Night on my Cruise! Still had lobster though and experience worth it! You had the option of paying $10 if you wanted another lobster tail or if you wanted lobster with your steak! I have noticed that there is no mention of Princess Cruises though Disney Cruise has been mentioned!
It started with the end of the midnight buffet. Then a charge fir room service during certain hours or for a full breakfast in room. One or two lobster tails or two entrees is enough in mdr. If you want to eat a lot of food go to buffet or choose early or late dinner and go to buffet first or after. Having burgers, hot dogs, pizza, sandwiches or a small buffet available late night 12a -2a would be nice. Question is how many lobsters can you get in specialty restaurant.
I think your mic sounds great!!! Cheaper might be better!!! 😊
Thanks for the info! Nickeling and diming people I don’t like but I get it
Thanks for info. Yep, this world is suffering food availability in our grocery stores and pricing is high when it is available. So it logically true that cruise ships are in a similar situation if you want lobster or high quality beef you will have to pay accordingly . I bet Sizzler Restaurants have had to raise there prices couple times too. It has been a standard that most value size for a lobster was 1 1/4 lobster. These are farm raised. Now you will get lobster that are less than that 1 1/4 for cheapest price on cruise ships I would bet. The pricing is for Maine lobster. Not sure about Caribbean lobster.
No one needs 3 or 4 entrées. The extra price is a lot cheaper than getting lobster at home. At least you are making people aware. It's all good.
I always get lobster rolls at the Seafood Shack on Carnival ships, they are so good.
we were on the quantum of the seas in Alaska and no lobster was given. 7-day cruise. Did not really miss it.
Sorry for your loss. 🤗
Thanks for the update
Well that is good good news!! The lobster from Maine and East Coast US and Canada is so much better than the Caribbean lobster...we have had both several times and would absolutely pay more for the Atlantic Lobster...Viv

You ever do an Ultra-Luxury Cruise? Like Silverseas Silver Moon? That is just amazing, but the cost is nuts.
I don’t mind paying after the 2nd entrée. I would have to be really hungry to order a 2nd one in the first place.
I literally am not. Even wanting to do cruises at this point just did r.c. And nothing was really included but the regular basic Buffett food smh no inclusions for all that money can’t do it again we got no seafood
I think it’s good for sustainability to limit the lobsters as well.
Love the Melanin at Sea hoodie!
On HAL. Menu itemd that were previously complimentary now cost$$. Kind of grabby.
Looks like carnival has the better deal here . The most I’ve eaten at the MDR is two apps , a main and dessert. Five dollars for an extra plate isn’t too bad
I'm going to Nassau on the Carnival Dream in May. What's the latest on the Carnival covid test?
You can always ask for another plate. Watched further. Princess didn’t charge years ago. Not sure now.
Cruise lines have been doing the up charges for years. I brought my own wine for dinner every night and the charged me $15 for a corking fee for every bottle.
No thanks. I will eat the free one and something else. Always something with Royal. Good thing I am not loyal to any cruise line.
I am going on a cruise with NCL in a few weeks and I saw where you can add one lobster tail to your meal for $ 10. I think that us reasonable! Nobody should be eating more than one or two lobster tails per dinner.
The oil price issues were real with OPEC but many oil companies also increased profits. It is excellent that the new ships are being built to not need as much oil but how will that translate? As to the logistic issues due to a lack of Truck drivers begs the questions of did more people than we know died during covid or we used far more migrant workers than we like to admit! With the exception of the fact that there is actually a lobster shortage that we have been warned about for 5 years and the recent a massive die off of Alaskan King crabs, I file the other company economic claims under the Toilet paper shortage claims as they made it like we would not have TP for years! Projected income is up dramatically for every cruise line! But even with the increased revenue, no one should be able to order 3 and 4 meals while seated at the same table! That requires a lot of workers to go back and get the food and it means that they can't move tables to accommodate the other clients who want to enjoy their vacation too. Gluttons are never the people easiest to please! The limit should be 2 plates per person of any food of any type be that lobster, steak or pasta! No extra charges because that will become messy and people will feel like you are nickel and diming them. Still hungry after 2 full plates? Invite them to visit the self service buffet and post the 2 servings limit in the dinning room and in the welcoming information. Just my thoughts.
In all fairness, the same logistics for Lobster also affect lettuce, beef, chicken and other menu items that Cruise Lines serve, but Lobster is so much more expensive to begin with. Seafood is getting so pricey that I wonder if the Lines cut it out all together or even put a surcharge on even your first serving. At least surcharging additional helpings could at least bring their food prices down a bit so everyone can still get one lobster tail. Thanks for the update
I heard that is also chicken and salmon and a few other options besides lobster and shrimp
In the background the book you have is that Robert Greene ( The 47 Laws of Power)?
I would have no problem limiting entrees to just one choice but if the customer doesn't really like it I think he/she should be able to choice something else

not liking an entree and replacing it with something else is different than the same person ordering three, four or five meals.
On the older carnival elation. No specialty restaurants so you can upgrade for around $29 at dinner and you can get surf and turf. Tail and a steak. Lobster used to be what they fed the prisoners on Ellis island before it became a delicacy of today. WiFi is pretty week onboard. So kind of funny to try to watch your video while on board.
I'm okay with it since they are switching the lobster tail. Only reason I ordered a second tail was cause the tail they served was so small....
...I think the problem with trying to get in front of things like this is you never know when it's a convenient scapegoat. If it works if prices decline will they return to the former. I doubt it. Either way I'm allergic. Wonder what I can get in exchange for a lobster...🤔
Loved the closeup of the cheap mic🤣🤣🤣🤣
You sound ok Hun. Stuff happens.
Another thing about the specialty dining. Not everyone will pay for that so they would need less lobster in the end.
When it comes to the economy, it is what it is. Cruise lines are a business and they want to make a profit so they have to do what they have to do. The sad thing is in any case like this it’s the consumer who has to bite the bullet.
Too many cuts and changes will make the value and experience not worth it for me. I loved cruising. I’ve cruised 34 times. It sounds like it’s time to choose other vacation options.
For carnival, Seems an app two entrees and dessert is a LOT to me. I haaate that overfull feeling. My husband probably get some of mine. For RC, I would never get extra lobster. I have seafood restaurants near me and I would guess better. Or prepare my own. I’m good.
as long as they dont come for my tequila, I can adjust my dietary gluttonny while cruising. There are still tons of choices aboard ship, both free and upcharged. Enjoy,
First, the cruise lines are attempting to repay the huge debts incurred during the pandemic. Second, the economy world wide seems to be heading into a recession/depression. Third, supply chain issues continue resulting in delays and shortages. Each of these above mentioned events constitutes a major concern for any business. When combined, it can be frightening. These cruise lines are taking measures to deal with these events even as each of us might need to tighten up On spending. They are acting responsibly as good business people should. Let’s give them a break.
Thanks for the honesty about the status of the economy.
Everyone is cutting costs. I've seen the new menus, they will work for me. As long as I can order an extra entree. Maine lobster certainly works for me. I'm just happy cruising is back.
Happy Thanksgiving 🦃🥧
Let's face it when on vacation we will tend to over eat. My mind will be blown if my cruise has peanut butter pie.
Carnival should keep Blue Iguana, Guys, and Big Chicken open for dinner. If they want to start charging like 3 to 5 bucks per person for MDR dinner, that's ok with me too--but keep the fastfood open for dinner.
Wow. Looks like MSC is gonna be the way to go (for now until they make the change too if they do) as they are happy to give me an extra lobster tail since I’m a vegetarian and don’t eat steak. I can’t afford the double occupancy charges on Carnival & Royal anyway as a solo traveler with no friends or family who want to join. I am a fairly petite person though and never eat more than one entree any other day of any cruise lol I barely can finish one most days! I can’t imagine eating 3 entrees lol but I understand some bodybuilders or large people need more calories. But why not just order extra appetizers then to save money? The lobster bisque is so good too! I would consider ordering 2 bowls of that if I could only get one lobster tail, that might make up for it. Also - you sound great, I am in TV production so I notice the slight difference in quality & honestly I think your video quality with your cheap mic is still better than 99% of the videos on here - I doubt laymen who don’t work in audio or tv or video production can tell the difference at all. Keep up the amazing work & I am enjoying your videos. Thank you for the service you provide by sharing all this info with us! Had a random idea - maybe the way they sell a drink package maybe they should consider adding a “lobster package” (different fees for how many extra lobsters you want to eat that you pay in advance) - I’m sure that would be very expensive but could be money saving for people who know they want to eat extra lobster & then I’m sure the cruise line would make extra money as some people’s eyes will be bigger than their stomach & not everyone who buys the package will actually be able to eat them all. Or just like a “third entree” package in general for folks who eat that much (again I can’t imagine but different strokes for different folks!) So sorry to hear about your loss & the funeral you are attending. My prayers to your friends & family. I know Mexico is very rejuvenating for me during tough times & I found the Mayan ruins in Costa Maya & Cozumel especially healing for my soul when going through a tough unwanted divorce this year. Hope you can also find an excursion or site that can take your mind off everything & find some peace! Blessings 🙏🏻

Oh no not tons of lobster. Well forget it. Only kidding. Love ya too and miss Lauren.
My condolences for your loss. Thanks for keeping us informed, as always.
Honestly. I'm surprised they didn't do this sooner. I get that it's a Caribbean lobster instead of Maine but It was something I always took advantage of. I'd have 4 lobster tails and thought. How can 6000 guests on an Oasis Class have 4 tails? Now I get not everyone orders lobster but the majority do. If they are switching to the Maine lobster, than I think it's a nice trade
Light appetite here, not a fan of fish/shell fish....I could eat all the veggies and be happy.
