"Carnaval del Barrio" - Lyrics, Translations, & Dumb Commentary
Музыка
Jeez the translation bar got kinda rude at the end there :/
So the last time I worked on this was August
I got to the part with the little glowy dot things (when Usnavi is singing to Sonny & co.) and I thought "dang this looks reeeally bad" so I tried to think of another idea but failed to
So I lost all of my inspiration and then I got caught up in other things and I never had the self-will to come back to this
That is, until today, the happiest of Yom Kippurs
I wanted to say "happy Yom Kippur" at the top of this but by the time this finishes uploading that will be a lie because the sun will be long gone
So instead just have a happy Wednesday night I guess
I'm sorry this took literally forever
I wanted to finish these before the end of this year but I'm not sure if that's gonna happen haha
Regardless, I hope you guys enjoy this (and the various confetti gifs I pulled off the first page of Google) and I'm sorry if it was not worth the wait
Hooopefully I'll get the Atencion/Alabanza video up soon (I'm probably gonna combine them because why not? Helps keep the sadness y'know)
Aight that's all x
And my typical finishing comments:
Sorry if there are any mistakes!
Song: "Carnaval Del Barrio" from In the Heights, featuring Andréa Burns (and the rest of the cast, but it doesn’t say that on iTunes..?)
Пікірлер: 310
AHHH I FORGOT TO PUT THIS IN All right story time: So I saw a little production of In the Heights this one time, yeah? And during Carnaval they held up the flags as usual and it was fun and all. But I was looking at the various flags (there were some from countries that weren’t mentioned as well) and I found a pride flag. It honestly took me a lot of willpower to not start dying with laughter in that small theatre because my immediate thought was “Ah, yes, I am also from Gay.”

Why does everybody’s voice sound so much cuter and higher in this song? Especially Carla’s
@Paigeycita

My only explanation is the combination of excitement, emphasizing character, and acting choices. It would be cool if there were some deeper reason to it, though (to emphasize a sudden shift in emotion (before and after)? to distinguish characters/personalities more easily? to allow Alma Yahalom to make interesting observations?)

Hell yeah, second best song of the whole musical (right after Blackout)!!! It’s just so dang pretty, how does each and every character in this musical all have such wonderful voices??? Sonny’s part is my fave for sure, perhaps mostly because I love him a whole lot, but also I just especially like his voice? But the part before that with Usnavi + Piragüero & the part right after are also very very very pretty Also, I started trying to learn Spanish a few weeks ago (still a big work in progress, but progress is being made nonetheless!) so thanks for helping me learn the Spanish lyrics in this song! Oh absolutely, their voices are stunning both solo and together and I very much appreciate them, Carla’s vocals are especially beautiful in this song :0 And I’ve been mostly using this Spanish101 podcast as well as a channel on here called ButterflySpanish, both have been really helpful so far! I’ve got a few simple phrases down more or less, but I’m mostly trying to figure the new sounds and correct pronunciations so I don’t have to re-learn how to say a bunch of words later on. It’s my first time actually committing to learning a new language, and learning solely because I want to, so it’s been slow going honestly but still really fun!
I LOVE this song, and I love the fact that the musical is about Latinos, and I identify a lot. I mean, "Since when are latin people scared of heat?" Every Latin identifies themself lol Btw: ¡Alza la bandera la bandera Brasileña!🇧🇷

Us as Latin Americans have come a long way, yet we still face oppression and discrimination. One problem, we are facing is gentrification and the displacement that comes with it. Growing up in neighborhoods such as the Lower East Side and Washington Heights, made me see how gentrification affects the hard working class families and the entire community. This is why am happy to announce that my favorite musical that represents this the best is "In The Heights", is being adapted to film and will release June 26, 2020. this was not what I was expecting
Its heeere!
Hi, thanks for everything you did but the "notes" part was a lil fast and I couldn't read most of it the first time so I had to rewind... lol Just for you to keep in mind if you choose another show to do the same. Thank youuuu!!!! Buen trabajo
Dude I just found your channel, I am in love with your videos! They are really funny 😂. Also, can you recommend me some good musicals? Greetings from Dominica Republic!

Hi!! Thank you so much! :) I can definitely recommend some, but first I gotta know which musicals are your favorites

Carolina Rodriguez Sorry for the late reply! If you want to listen to something similar to Hamilton, I’d suggest Six. Besides that, many modern musicals are quite similar to Hamilton and DEH (including more pop-inspired songs and rap verses). I’d also recommend some older musicals like West Side Story and Les Mis! :)

Hate to interrupt the awesomeness off this song (also I know i’m a year late i’m sorry) But after the song is over and they repeat the chorus again, Nina runs out of Abuela’s apartment to get Usnavi. And I guess I always knew that it was because she found Abuela dead... but I never really registered. Nina found Abuela dead. That’s fucking sad.
It sounds like what you wrote as WEPA is actually GUAPA (beautiful)

“Wepa” is a slang word that’s along the lines of “yeah!”. “Guapo/a” would certainly make sense in some parts of the song, but “wepa” is definitely the word they’re saying. :)

This is the best song in the whole musical and that’s coming from a Latina.
I may be wrong but I think that in the alza la bandera bit it said “alza la bandera americana (the American flag)” and not “la bandera mexicana” ^^;;
@Paigeycita

They do sound very similar, but the official lyrics say mexicana (meh-hee-cah-nah). Though it would be a lot of fun if they repeated that part with 3 more countries, then ended with americana to further connect to one another. :)
