He’s always drummed as if being in treacle, but it works, that slight lag gives the song a certain dynamic.

Vinnie has so much power yet he’s so funky and clean wtf. Definitely deserves more recognition imo. This guy is a monster!

Vinnie is certainly one of the most difficult drummers to emulate. His technique and style is very unique and slightly off. I have always said that his drumming seems to come from another planet, because NO ONE plays like him. Definitely one of a kind. \m/ Vinnie.

You know, it is so damn painful to watch him play at times. He's always been like that too. He's probably played this song 5000 times but each time it's the same: he looks like he's suffering, like he doesn't know what to do next... but if you close your eyes and listen... his pocket is so deep (maybe not quite here but still) and has so much hang time. And forget trying to play this song like him. It's near impossible. Great post buddy.

+Big Meanie It's your opinion dude and i respect it :-) But it's only your comment which comes from another planet not him ! There are better rock-metal drummers than those 2 guys by far on this planet and i'm talking about for drummers in their age ! I'm not saying he's bad but .................from another planet i think it's too much !!

You´re right there are many drummers that are way more technical and on spot, but Vinny almost has a style of his own. Similarly like Geezer Butler on bass, you recognize him after a couple of beats.

Love Vinny! Great time. Great licks. People think that's easy tune to play to. Vinny has perfect time and very creative fluid licks.

Over the years, I've come to admire VA and understand his skills. He's so heavy, like Bonham, but he also lets air in, giving his assaults a loose feel. He rocks, folks. And that tune will be played at my funeral 🤘💥

As a drummer of 4 plus decades, I understand Vinnies lag on the feels and time. When you've played this song as much as he has, then your going to mix it up. It's about feel, inspiration. You can't say this one or that one is better. It's apples, oranges in comparison with any other drummer. If one wants to get into that game here, its shows your maturity and seasoning.. People just need to relax and let things settle to where they are now. If you don't have the years of real playing experience behind you, then please observe and keep the negative comparisons to yourself.... please.......

miles davis called it swinging. there are those who are born to hear it and those who are not. there is also in classical music, von Karajan stands out from 100 others because in his interpretations he asks for this swing, while all the others play flat.

This proves he is an awesome drummer and has talent. Even after the guitarists odd time signatures during the solo and note misses, he still followed it and didn't stop playing.

+Barbie Grace You don't have to be a great drummer to play with this song dear Barbie ! Ok it's a beautyfull song nobody denies that but it's also an eazy one ! And especially for a guy like him playing for so many years it's a piece of cake ...actually it's the whole cake :-)

The guitarists didn't play "odd time signatures" he played the song. Vinnie played the odd time changes as it was different to the song, if anything he could have out the guitarist off.

I don't judge this performance specifically, but the guitarist is Fabio Cerrone and in the concert I saw as such (lead guitar) in support of Tony Martin (2005), he was stratospheric
