She is hilarious thinking she would get a car. After what happened with Zach, expelled from private school and so much stuff, I wouldn’t do anything beyond getting what she needs for school. Nothing more. I had this exact same conversation when my little sister wanted a cellphone at 12. Me and my older siblings laughed at her because we had to earn it with good grades and when we turned 18. We cracked up when she thought the cellphones were meant to be a present, not something you earned. Same thing with a car where I am from as well as my family. Thanks for uploading.

regarding cell phones, nowadays pretty much every kid has a cell phone to the point where parents would be worried sick if they didn't have a way to get in contact with their kid. That being said, you don't have to get your kid a _nice_ one. Just a phone that performs the basic calling and texting functions. Let them earn the nicer one.

With cellphones, I think it important for kids esp since we now live in a day that there is no such thing as a payphone and if the student is involved in after-school activities. However, it doesn't have to be some fancy smartphone, it can be a basic phone, that you can fit in your pocket and are just able to call and text esp if the kid is still in elementary school.

Then again it may be important for them to have a phone that also has access to the internet since much schoolwork does require access to the internet esp now. Not many libraries are open to the public, coffee shops that have access to wifie and devices still don't do dine in. It's not fair that the students that are struggling in school is bc they don't have access to wifi or any internet devices. I'm in college and a couple of my classmates did drop out bc of it. My sister best friend always used the library when she had to do work online but when we went on lockdown, she and her three sisters depended a lot on her smartphone, so won't get left behind. However, there are cheaps smartphones that one can buy for under 200 bucks. So yeah I don't think having cellphone is privileged anymore.

I got a car for my 16 Birthday but I did earn it. My parents gave me and my sister a choice, we either have quinceanera or we wait for our 16 Birthday for a car. However, we earn those choices. We were both good students, no complaints from teachers, we were both very involved in our school, had part-time jobs, and did volunteer work. However, there were rules, always obey the driving rules so no texting and driving or drinking. Plus for the first six months when we got our license, we couldn't have given a riding to no more than two friends, that only for emergencies only. As for Carmen, as she did get a quince, her parents made a lot of sacrifices for her to get to an expensive private school that they could barely afford so she could get expelled to be with some loser. She ended up having the privilege of getting homeschooled, which she didn't take seriously, and also got privileged of going to a private catholic school, which was hinted she wasn't a good student, and she still expects a car.

Respect to you my friend. Unfortunately for me I wasnt so lucky. I was a good student. I did my best even tho I failed and my parents knew that too. I struggled a lot. I was a good kid, never got into trouble. I did sports and such as my dad wanted me to and he still didnt get me a car. I had to work for mine.

I was 16 when I was given a car, I didn't earn it and wasn't ready for it. My father was more like George in this scene and my mother/grandfather went against him. I had the car a month before I wrecked it and ended up in the hospital so severely hurt they expected me to die. Giving your children stuff they don't earn or need will only get them hurt.

And they wonder why Carmen acts like that, even her own grandmother said something about the type of person carmen is because of her parents. Where do you think she gets her attitude from, you have the mother walking around dressing a little loose and provocative sometimes and the father being disrespectful to the grandmother everyday it's no wonder carmen acts that way most of the time. Then when she really acts out and does something really bad George and Angie wanna play good cop and bad cop and in the end carmen never really learns what she did was wrong. I feel bad for her character because if she was actually living with decent people who actually cared the way there daughter would dress and act she would've turned out to be really cool person. I know the father had a ruff childhood but that's no excuse for letting your own child that way no excuse.

Parents were tough on getting me a car so I made it tough for them to follow their word and got a car in the end. Their word was "be involved in as many extracurriculars and we'll support you no matter what." Financially we were upper middle class so it was never a money issue, but I wasn't brand drive. To combad thisI got involved in 3 different music programs in school, 2 out of school and drum and bugle corps. My siblings also were involved in club/travel sports and it wore my parents thin to try and get us everywhere so they gave in and got me a car. The difference between my situation and Carmen's was she wanted a top of the line hybrid or whatever. I wanted one that could run, have AC and get good mileage. I also think being more responsible and 100% committed to what I was doing helped my cause.

If my kid wants a car at seriously 16 yrs old he/she gotta get a job for it.
