This song was actually a lullaby. It was later a song not to be sung around men because of its double meaning. "Mama eu quero mamar la chupeta" meaning the baby wanted to be breastfed/suck on breasts, which also signified what men wanted from the "putas" or "prostitutas". There's tons of meaning and history behind this song. Not just a Tom and Jerry track. A better understanding and great read for this would be the short story "Manuela en Copacabana" by Ramon J. Sender in his Relatos Fronterizos book (kind of hard to find).

Thanks for the translation! But why "Mamãe eu quero mamar" is translated as "Mommy I want to eat"? "Mamar" is "suckle" in english. In this song it means "to be breastfed"

Carmen Miranda traveled to the USA to appear in a Broadway show. She was so successful that this musical number and one other one were inserted into this Hollywood movie, with no connection to the plot at all - and she was such a sensation that she was given a real speaking part plus more songs in her next film, and then she was a huge star. Because “Mama Eu Quero” was the first song she sang in an American movie, it immediately was the one that was always used for the many satirical imitations that were done in films and cartoons for years afterwards, almost always by males in drag.
