Yeah, you just don't hear much of any meaningful lyrics from the young singers and songwriters anymore. Most of them seem to be chicks bashing their old boyfriends or whatever.

We have Incredible singers and songwriters today. It’s just that the Carli B’s and the Nicki Minaj’s of the world are out grabbing the headlines. We have incredible music now. Just so many more artists and so many more platforms that sometimes the really good talent is lost in the fray. Then Taylor and Sallie Taylor are both incredibly talented, they inherited their parents’ genes.

Happy 50th anniversary to this excellent song by Miss Carly!!! It was released right around this time in 1973(it’s January 2, 2023 as I post this comment.) May this song live on for another half century! (For anyone who has not turned the big 5-0 yet, don’t take the “half century” mark seriously); I’m beyond that milestone by over three years, I’ll turn 54 in just 102 days to be exact. Happy belated New Year!!!

I'm going to sing this song from Carly Simon in March 2023 for Round 1⃣of Cafe Quarantine Karaoke and I'm also going to take this opportunity to quickly dedicate it to my mom on behalf of discovering that it's her favorite song that I've added to some playlists that I made on iTunes and Spotify which are separately called, "Real old school melodies 1⃣", "Ancient energetic songs", "Travel song with bouncy qualities" and "Real old school songs." Oh, and get this, one of my coworkers who works at a commercial real estate with my for at least 4⃣days a week also loves this song which is one of the things that she has in common with my mom. 🤣 I hope that everyone will love it not to mention the fact that I'll perform it on Saint Patrick's Day 2023.

In 1972, I think I did believe this song was about me. Loved the song and was very fortunate that most females thought I was something special; which wasn't the case. Still, the song always struck a chord and to this day, as an old ugly guy, I still love it. Although Carly had many, many great songs, this one is still my favorite. Why Carly will only admit that the second verse is about Warren Beatty and the song may still be about another 2 or 3 other men, even after keeping this secret over 50 years, is crazy. Even if she knew me, it would never have been about me; I would never be involved with another man's wife or be messing around if I were married. That is not an admirable quality of the person she is singing about. Still, thought to be her best song.

Carly Simon was a fantastic singer (listen to "Coming Around Again"), and I hate to sound sexist, but also so beautiful well into her forties. She, Carol King (listen and watch the lyrics to "Jazzman") who won just about every Grammy for her album "Tapestry", and Joni Mitchell (listen and try to sing along with the lyrics to "Free Man In Paris" - impossible, she had such amazing air control) who has 11 Grammies were three amongst the many great female singer-songwriters of the '60s and '70s. They gave us so many super hit songs.

Coolest song ever. i almost forgot about it 'cause i haven't heard it in a long time. Then, last weekend, i was at a local cool burger joint (Chip's) and just happened to hear the line "total eclipse of the sun" which i thought was too cool with the upcoming solar eclipse today. Then, i realized it was the song "You're So Vain" !! I first heard this song back in the '70s on my car radio on my way home from work and remember laughing at the line "you probably think this song is about you!!" But i feel so stupid because all these years i didn't know who sang it, so i came home and googled it and have listened to it probably about 10 times ever since. I love it, such a good beat, great drummer. Carly sings her heart out. Man, the young people today just don't get it - the garbage they create and listen to is pathetic - not cool. I can't believe no one in the reviews has mentioned that this song makes them think about trump. nobody's more vain that he is!

In an interview Carly Simon said that the song is about 3 men, one of whom was Warren Beatty. The other one has to be Jack Nicholson, who is a perpetual ladies man, loves to dance around amongst groupings of people, and both men are known to wear hats and scarfs.

Actually the third possibility was Mick Jagger, not Nicholson. He liked to "gavotte". And she gave a clue a few years ago that the letter "E" was in the man's name, so it's definitely not Jack. But Jagger was backup vocals on the song and Taylor helped her re-record it, so they were pretty much excluded. Beatty is the prime choice.

@@zenagitana One can't take seriously any men that Simon would even vaguely hint at as being one of the three men because she was on one talk show (many years after this came out) and when asked about it referring to Beatty, she categorically denied it was a reference to him in any way, shape or form only to say a few years later on another talk show that part of it (probably more than half) does indeed refer to Beatty. That much is clear. Born in the late fifties, I grew up in the sixties and Beatty was hot snot by the mid to late sixties. Only he and Nicholson could have owned a lear jet. As for JT, that's too murky and yet too obvious due to his having a terrible inferiority complex and their being in a resultant turbulent marriage to each other. I could see JT. As for the third party, that easily could have been Jagger as they circled each other like binary stars in a long term "friendship" and professional sense too, such as here. It's important to realize this referred to the early '70s, and Simon didn't so much have male "friends" as much as male friends she slept with. She was very libidinous. I'd still be extremely surprised if the third party wasn't Nicholson as he was hot as hell at the box office, could have any woman he wanted (and did), is and was overflowing with a grandiosity regarding himself, narcissistic and very relaxed and animated when at any kind of party. He, too , was given to wearing hats and being VERY animated, especially dancing and spinning when entering a party. In any event Simon's just screwing with us as in her own word's, not disclosing who the three are, if there even are three, is all that gets her any attention any more. My money is on : 1) Beatty for the win (obviously), 2) J.T. to place, and 3) Nicholson to show. The tri-fecta.

The pressures of professional school (2 guys dropped out of my class to save their marriages, and I thought they were losers) blew apart my relationship with the girl I loved the most in my life. We were on the way to future marriage until I vented some school related internalized stress on her and withdrew. Instead I ended up marrying a woman who couldn't deal with stress, later becoming her bipolar mother, and she was a child of the disposable generation. We made it to year eight in our marriage until she made me her second divorced husband. Me and my boys call her husband after me "double-03". I ttuly envy you bro. Congrats!

She once told me: you're so vain. I went like: yeah. She went like: I love you!!! Me: yeah. Her: son of a b*tch!!! Me: yeah. Guys, never let hurt and broken girls try to play with your self-esteem and well-being. Many times in my life I doubted about myself until I discovered how valuable and beautiful as a human being I can be and am. Pd. I used to really love that girl...

You walked into the party like you were walking onto a yacht Your hat strategically dipped below one eye Your scarf it was apricot You had one eye in the mirror, as you watched yourself gavotte And all the girls dreamed that they'd be your partner They'd be your partner and You're so vain You probably think this song is about you You're so vain (you're so vain) I bet you think this song is about you Don't you don't you? You had me several years ago when I was still quite naive Well you said that we made such a pretty pair and that you would never leave But you gave away the things you loved And one of them was me I had some dreams they were clouds in my coffee clouds in my coffee and You're so vain You probably think this song is about you You're…
