Lyrics:
Baby sneezes
Mommy pleases
Daddy breezes in
So good on paper
So romantic
But so bewildering
I know nothing stays the same
But if you're willing to play the game
It's coming around again
So don't mind if I fall apart
There's more room in a broken heart
You pay the grocer
You fix the toaster
You kiss the host goodbye
Then you break a window
Burn the souffle
Scream a lullaby
I know nothing stays the same
But if you're willing to play the game
It's coming around again

Takes me back to 1987. My Mum and Dad had broken up the year previous. Life went on. I was 13 years old. This song came on the radio yesterday and it took me back all those years ago and I just felt sad. I’m nearly 50 now, very happy in life with a beautiful wife and son. So how does such a sad feeling come over me hearing a song from 37 years ago?

Because this song is clearly about breaking up and trying again. It is sad that people break up at all and have to try again after making a lifetime commitment. And Carly is so richly melancholy in this song; it is a very melancholy situation 😒 laced with a little bit of hope. I am in my second marriage and this song makes me both sad... and glad.

@Carly SIMON : Once upon a time, artists produced quality songs both lyrically and musically. It was a delight for the ears of every music lover. You could listen to it endlessly. Coming Around Again... released in 1986 and still popular in 2023...! The sixties, seventies, eighties... great times...! Big contrast with the current music experience...! Thank you Carly SIMON for this heartwarming masterpiece and may you be well. Greetings from Belgium (Europe) and Florida (USA).
They do not make songs like this anymore, excellent talent . The song will never die are be forgotten.

as close to a perfect song as there can be
Does anyone else think this song is about falling in and out of love in a marriage as you change and grow through the ebbs and flows of a long term commitment? "I know nothing stays the same- but if you're willing to play the game, it's coming around again". ie: we aren't the same as we once were but if you stick through it with me we'll find the love we once felt for each other again. That's how I hear it anyway. It's sad and beautiful at the same time.

Amazing voice, legendary singer and what an amazing song. Makes me so nostalgic of those times, the lyrics and the memories of the time when I heard it first, 80s. Amazing music, amazing era and amazing memories. Thank you Carly for a great song that brings back so much past and so much beauty from that past.

Boa tarde, deve saber pois vai-lá no dicionário......
My mom introduced me to this song just a year ago. She had me sit & watch Heartburn with Meryl Steep & Jack Nicholson. Now, I have this wonderful song to share with my niece & nephew as I won’t ever have children of my own. She will live on through myself & them. She’s still with us & I cherish each day.
Canção PERFEITA 🌟
What an epic song, it still sounds as fresh as it did all those years ago. Her vocals from 2:35 mins onwards are outstanding, and the harmonies and backing vocals are just simply mindblowing. This song is a masterpiece, and it just gets better with age, as you really do appreciate the lyrics etc. Carly Simon is without doubt one of the finest artists and songwriters to come out of the 70's. Total respect to her. ✊🙏👏👏👏
My dad died in 1987 I was 10 an I remember my mum constantly playing this song in her bedroom, it still cuts me up ,I miss him so much an I miss being happy it broke me at the age of ten an I've never really got over the loss , the song means so much in terms of remembering him 💔, I was too wrapped up in my own loss , I wish I could of helped my mum more

I am crying after the song and then I read your comment. I feel your pain brother! If I could give you a hug to let you know we are all here to support you. We cannot bring your father back, but he is watching over you and is closer than you know. Keep on believing in love, your dad feels it!
Being 64 & privileged to live this long has brought me many cherished memories & also traumatic moments that brought me to my knees. Still….it has been a privilege. I know nothing stays the same, but if you’re willing to play the game, it’s coming around again…❤
49 years old and this song brings all the heartache back again.

I'd just started my first truly permanent job when this was a hit in the UK,at the end of January/February/into March 1987,so it takes me back to those days. Lots of bright, shiny new people to meet but frequently coming home a bit zonked from putting a lot into making sure I got myself established.
My mother played this for me when I was little and when we have our mother daughter get togethers...we turn it on and sing!! Carly Simon is a special soul

Hi Sharon💐💐
Baby sneezes Mummy pleases Daddy breezes in So good on paper So romantic But so bewildering I know nothing stays the same But if you're willing to play the game It's coming around again So don't mind if I fall apart There's more room in a broken heart You pay the grocer You fix the toaster Kiss the host good-bye Then you break a window Burn the soufflé? Scream the lullaby I know nothing stays the same But if you're willing to play the game It's coming around again So don't mind if I fall apart There's more room in a broken heart And I believe in love But what else can I do I'm so in love with you I know nothing stays the same But if you're willing to play the game It will be coming around again Baby sneezes (I believe in love) Mummy pleases (I believe in love) Daddy breezes in (I believe in love) I know nothing stays the same (I believe in love) But if you're willing to play the game (I believe in love) It will be coming around again (I believe in love) I do believe I do believe (I believe in love) I believe in love (I believe in love) I believe in love (I believe in love) Coming around again Coming around again Nothing stays the same (I believe in love) But if you're willing to play the game (I believe in love) It will be coming around again (I believe in love) Oh, I believe in love (I believe in love) Oh, I believe in love (I believe in love) And it's coming around again (I believe in love)

I feel ya, bro. I was born in 80. They were the most idyllic, simple, and optimistic times. As a child living in the Middle East around 1987, I can remember riding in my dad's car through a vast desert, the sun setting, my mom's cassette of this coming through the speakers, and feeling like the moment was going on forever. I'm a tatted-up 42-year-old now, a fan of 100s of 1000s of different songs from across endless genres, and sometimes I wander back into this nostalgic space to feel safe and hopeful again. Especially in the crazy world, life, and time of the modern era.
