Carlsen beats Anand in just 10 moves! | Casablanca Variant 2024

Спорт

Casablanca Variant connects the great masters of the past to the great masters of the present. The two GOATs of the present era Magnus Carlsen and Vishy Anand were given an Evans Gambit position from the 1889 World Championship Match between Chigorin and Steinitz. 10 moves were made on the board and in the next 10 moves Magnus Carlsen showed his dominance on the board. Check out to see how Carlsen outwitted Anand.

This format highlights the superior chess understanding of Magnus over his contemporaries. In my view, he is the GOAT of modern chess, even better than Fischer, Kasparov and Karpov, who were phenomenally successful because of their great opening preparation. Magnus, on the other hand, can outplay anyone from any dynamically equal (even slightly inferior) position due to his superior understanding of the game.

You can't directly compare skills of different generations. Of course, modern players know more. They learned from the previous masters!! However, Magnus hasn't been nearly as dominant as Kasparov in longevity nor as dominant as Fischer in skill gap between himself and #2. Fischer steamrolled everyone that was put in front of him in ways that Magnus can only dream about. So no, Magnus is not the GOAT by any meaningful standard other than he's the most recent #1.

The reason is vishy plays positional chess(as it saves having to calculate so much, he calculates only when he feels it's needed but since time was less and sudden complex game was given and he played black in tough position he kinda overlooked), he expected the black to have played in such a way that queen was not trapped, Magnus is young calculates everything!

I prefer things like this and fischer random to regular chess, the whole preparation especially with engine or even a team just defeats the fairness and spirit of the game.

Not only is Magnus a great player but he also has that psychological hold over his opponents, Vishy played this game much worse than he'd normally play it against any other player. Same with Magnus' record against Hikaru, they already lose the game in their head even before the start of the game.

I love this variant but some of these positions are just much easier to play for one side. And you can't play them with colors reversed.
