in the shot of the clock tower (time:6.30). you will notice that on the left there is no hands or face of the clock (which faces north). A "wake and bake"? That is what conscripted (white) South African soldiers did in Namibia / Angola during the 'South African Border War'. They would wake up and start smoking weed, day after day, week after week, month after month, year after year. Even worse, ranking officers would occasionally Court Marshall conscripts for smoking weed and double their service time from 4 to 8 years as punishment even though then condoned the smoking and were known at times to be involved in the supply.

That's hiStory for you.
Love your comments Charlie, old Weegie me living in Hampshire, you are a ray of sunshine M8. This inspired me to visit my brother who lives in Devon and make a pilgrimage to St Gabriel's chapel in Exeter cathedral, an old soldier and as you know, we only fade away. My m8 Alex was a giant like you, a piper, middle class, totally anarchistic. More power to you big man.
Love your videos Charlie, had to drop a comment to pay kudos to the picture quality. I watch you through ps5 in full 2160p and it’s a joy, nice shot of that big star btw 👏🏻👏🏻
Beautiful shots in this one Charlie. ☀️📷👍🏻 Thanks for the film.
Hi my names Charlie veitch and the reason we out today is to do what not allowed!! 🤣🤣
Charlie, I love your city trip videos so much! You capture the mood and vibe of each city perfectly and as a viewer you really feel like you're there yourself. Also the encounters with the people are always really interesting. Awesome. I'm looking forward to many more!

I remember when my 8-year old son first saw the Roman wall when I took him up to housesteads Roman fort for a day out He thought it was going to be , the same as the Great wall of China ; He was a little bit disappointed , to say " LOL 😂
I went to school in Carlisle. You have to appreciate the fact that Carlisle still has a homogenous society. Although a few weeks ago, the Gov filled a hotel with non Brits. The sandstone always looks lovely.

Wow... What a stunning city in 4k🤩 That cathedral was impressive!! Have you ever took any photography inside manchester cathedral and if so could someone please link me the video(s)? Great content as always and really enjoy these different location videos. I see your getting better with your new camera aswell charlie.
The building that looks like a castle was council buildings, but the university of Cumbria have brought all the buildings and shops.
Yes, the replication of the same business, shops and official building is not just in the U.K, it is in Europe, Australia, New Zealand, Canada and much of America, you could be in any city and there is such little variation, we are like standard consumer units all responding to the same presented environment.

Thanks for sharing, Charles. Some years ago we visited the castle with MCR International Society students group, but didn't realise we should come back to learn more about the city and the history. Well done, excelente conteúdo! Regards from Rio.
I went there once, never again! Shakespeare wrote about the place: 'Much ado about nothing!'?
Charlie thank you for the tour of my home town Carlisle crown court or magistrates court was called a carbuncle by prince charles the gilipley building in the castle was where i was based air training core moved away 17 years ago miss home but still have family there

What phenomenal architecture! And that mind-boggling cathedral! You Brits definitely do not appreciate your heritage enough. What in the hell is wrong with you? Great video as always Charles. Cheers from South Africa chaps.

The strain glasswindow in the vid.... The walls are that thick there is a passage in the walls that allows you to walk between them over the top of that window! It's tight but amazing. He also missed the laughing policeman gargoyle on the outside.
Well Charlie, great video. I'm surprised that you didn't mention the town hall clock ?!
in the shot of the clock tower (time:6.30). you will notice that on the left there is no hands or face of the clock (which faces north). This was purposely done so the Scottish could not see the time when coming into Carlisle. The tall Council building was voted one of Britains top ten ugliest buildings.
Absolutely excellent, CV! A comprehensive tour of Carlisle whilst I sit here in the warmth of my living-room. Especially liked the sequence in the cathedral - magnificent. One thing intrigues me. Right at the end, you were sat on a rather nice multi-coloured leather seat/sofa - outside, it seemed! Is it outside, does it get rained on?

Only three faces on the clock because they wouldn't give Scotland the time of day.
Although many shopping centres are private in the context of Sec 33 of the CJA, there are others that were built across existing roads and the public right of way was never extinguished, so the right to film in public still remains. Should you be able to demonstrate that you can tell the security guards to go take a flying f--K.
@tonymahoney2814

That shopping center is exactly that, it's called ' The Lanes'. In the early 80s they demolished the old 'Lanes' and biltt what's there today. So yes those laws will still apply.... Top shout and next time I'm in if I see that idiot I'll let him know.
I wish I knew you ere in Carlisle, I would have come to say hello. When you were filming the outside of the castle I was inside it enjoying an ex-forces veterans Christmas lunch in the military museum.
7:50 welcome to my home city. You were standing on Scotch Street. 😂
Nice review of my city, thanks Charlie.
Happy to see my city on the channel. Finally!
Love these city/town tour's, far more interesting than alot of the braindead junk on YT.
Charlie nice and chilled this time . Interesting, enjoyable video
Thanks Charlie for the Pantera reference. I always wondered why they made the point that Brian's father was Roman centurion in Life of Brian. The part where Brians" mother is inferred to be casually servicing a Roman soldier has me chuckling every time.
What lovely people in the Chapel shame about the security. If I was in a forward public job visitors should be welcome. The Chapel was a brilliant example of welcoming and giving a positive experience. The lady at the end disappointed shame nevermind.

Also Charlie I am from Northern Ireland and people can pretty much guess where I come from in the South of the country but they ask anyway. They are also bemused when I say I am from Ireland instead of Northern Ireland. The old lady didn't mean anything by her questions. This woman from Hackney was just grifting.

27:02 SPQR stands for: Senatus Populusque Romanus, "The Senate and the Roman People'. I believe that it is still used on the municipal crest of the City of Rome, today.
As as Irish Catholic it think it is vitally important that we vist such cathedrals as they are remarkable buildings and the continued teachings of past history in Europe. With how western society is going it is very important I feel we do not forget these things. Richard the guy in church was very polite seemed like a good guy
