A diamond is the best, isn't it?!

By then 9 years old. Heard the band one or two years before this recording at Jazzhuset in Gothenburg. I was totally blown away. Later my second cousin Arne Reinhold invited the whole band to play at home on his fathers 80th birthday in january 1991. The whole family was there, father Hans, mother Aina, Gerd, Gunhild, Max and Ulf. What an evening that was !

Up to now, I used to enjoy the sunday garden live shows, which are fantastic. But now that I watch this for the first time, I deem this as almost unbelievable. A girl, aged less than 10 years, with a difficult SLIDE TROMBONE (and NOT valve!), playing VERY GOOD solos with a lot of feeling for blues, swing, jazz phrasing and ensemble playing. I think that this is a unique phenomenon in the world. And probably it will remain unique.

Great to see this film of 9 year old Gunhild and her family in 1984. She is astonishingly good on the trombone at such a young age, what talent. That is not an easy instrument to play so well as a small child.

Too amazing. Even adult trombonists have trouble reaching out to 6th and 7th positions, but she got out there on those low notes! I am totally amazed at Gunhild's LUNG CAPACITY to blow into her trombone with that volume, at such a young age. She reminds me of my own Latvian mom, who had similar energy all her life (though she did not play music), and when I see Gunhild leading her band, it seems like how my mom would do it in a take-charge way, if she also played music. Again, wow!

This is an extremely impressive performance! The family band possesses some kind of magic magnetism that keeps people watching and listening to them nonstop.

Confesso minha ignorância, apesar de ser um grande apreciador do jazz (tenho só 75 anos, sou de Recife, Pernambuco, Brasil), só agora estou conhecendo a Carling Family no seu início (1984). Mas já agora conheço também a sua trajetória mais recente (2018). Nunca tinha visto algo semelhante. É mesmo muito empolgante. Gostaria muito de vê-los pessoalmente. This was the video where I discovered you. I had just got back into playing trumpet after 30 years. Somehow, this certain video propped up, I saw a girl as tall as the trombone and I selected it and ,.....I discovered Gunhild Carling and her family orchestra . Plus, at the same time you had just started your weekly jazz live from Sweden "good evening to the east, goodnight to the west". About two years ago. This is why I love you and your family. You helped me through , and you are my trumpet /trombonist!

I'm astounded! I had just recently run across this video and not knowing what was going on I thought that the girl on trombone was maybe Gunhild's youngest daughter. I was shocked when I realized it was actually Gunhild as a child. Oh my goodness the way she can play that slide trombone at that age. I haven't seen all of the videos on this channel but I wished there were more videos of her at this age and also as she was growing up playing. Now I'm enjoying watching her, as an adult, and her family play. Absolutely amazing!

@@luizgonzagasilveira6980 De fato, é algo muito excepcional. O irmão clarinetista é maravilhoso também. São gênios raríssimos. E Gunhild é o aprimoramento máximo desse DNA tão especial. Ela toca trumpete, trombone, harpa, flauta, gaita, piano! Ela canta, ela sapatea, ela compõe. No canal pessoal dela há uma live recente, só ela e o piano, onde ela canta o que o pessoal pede. Embora ela a família cantem jazz tradicional e interpretados desde 1920, 30, 40, etc. parece, sempre, que é uma música inédita.
