When I started studying English on my own, some friends asked me "why? You don't know any Americans, you don't intend to travel there, why bother?" Well, here's one reason. I can watch this wonderful lecture, they can't.

Every time I watch videos of him, I'm amazed by how much he thinks about what he says before he says it. He talks slowly, but with a very high degree of precision, and a high density of information per word. It's an incredible skill.

Carl Sagan died far too soon, but geniuses like him never really die, they live on in those willing to listen and learning from them. We are indeed explorers of knowledge and through Carl Sagan, among others, we manage to not just understand our universe, our Earth, but also ourselves and our purpose and legacy on this planet of ours.

I'm about 39 minutes into watching this video and I can't help but comment--it's a damn shame Carl Sagan didn't live long enough to enjoy the discovery of thousands of extra-solar planets. We are in great need of voices of clarity such as his. He died way too young.

This may sound strange to most, but to a few it will make perfect sense. I have the original COSMOS series on my phone (downloaded KZread videos), and I listen to it perhaps every other day as I fall asleep, or as I take my exercise walks in a local nature reserve. Doing this has helped me in my discussions with other people about many topics. It helps me stay focused, level-headed, and (more often than not) happy in dealings with other adults. Perhaps most importantly, it has given me patience to help children explore the world around them, to answer their questions in ways that promotes their thinking, and to work towards a better world I hope they inherit.

Before the Big Bang, when Brofgran was deciding what to unfold, he chuckled, as only one from the Uraste line could. He imagined a technologically advanced civilization watching "funny cat videos". This was quite a feat of imagination, because none of those three words existed. Nevertheless, Brofgran put forth his will and started a process which would create conditions whereby it would come to pass. Now we find ourselves exactly as the creator imagined about 14 billions years ago. And what other feats of imagination await inhabitants on that speck in a giant universe? One can only imagine!

Why oh why do the God deniers insist that investigation and discovery, which is the basis of science, and is intrinsic to the human condition, is incompatible with the existence of God? And a second point: I am about 99.8% certain that the hunter gatherers he talks about, are much happier now with access to basic electricity and basic health. None of them would go back to their dark age fight for daily survival trying to follow the spoor of a herd of wild pigs. The evidence for that is to be found in all continents of the world where the extreme poor have been lifted out of the life and death struggle of daily life in squalor by simple access to electric light, water delivered to the home, a bicycle, and a clinic they can ride to. Get rid of the "noble savage" myth once and for all please.

Man how I wish we could have seen more of this amazing scholar. There are no better philosophers than scientists. And what amazes me is how well synched they all become the smarter they are. As if they grasp there is one fundamental truth about reality which is just too difficult to comprehend for the majority of the population.

In the past, in order to obtain a Ph. D., potential candidates had to master philosophy. Philosophy provides a lens through which actual scientists are able to decipher right from wrong free of bias. That's truly what education should be about- objectivity which coincides with ethics when it come to the etiology of knowledge.

WHAT IS E=MC2 is taken directly from F=ma, AS TIME is NECESSARILY possible/potential AND actual ON/IN BALANCE; AS ELECTROMAGNETISM/energy is CLEARLY AND NECESSARILY proven to be gravity (ON/IN BALANCE); AS c squared CLEARLY represents a dimension of SPACE ON BALANCE. Consider WHAT IS THE EYE ON BALANCE. Great. Consider TIME AND time dilation ON BALANCE !! WHAT IS E=MC2 is taken directly from F=ma, AS ELECTROMAGNETISM/energy is CLEARLY AND NECESSARILY proven to be gravity (ON/IN BALANCE). Consider TIME AND time dilation ON BALANCE, AS TIME is NECESSARILY possible/potential AND actual ON/IN BALANCE. Gravity AND ELECTROMAGNETISM/energy are linked AND BALANCED opposites ON BALANCE, as the stars AND PLANETS are POINTS in the night sky. Consider TIME AND time dilation ON BALANCE, AS TIME is NECESSARILY possible/potential AND actual ON/IN BALANCE; AS WHAT IS E=MC2 is taken directly from F=ma; AS ELECTROMAGNETISM/energy is CLEARLY AND NECESSARILY proven to be gravity (ON/IN BALANCE); AS the rotation of WHAT IS THE MOON matches the revolution. Great !!! WHAT IS GRAVITY is, ON BALANCE, an INTERACTION that cannot be shielded or blocked, AS ELECTROMAGNETISM/energy is CLEARLY AND NECESSARILY proven to be gravity (ON/IN BALANCE). BALANCE AND completeness go hand in hand. Magnificent. It ALL CLEARLY makes perfect sense ON BALANCE. WHAT IS E=MC2 is dimensionally consistent, AS TIME is NECESSARILY possible/potential AND actual ON/IN BALANCE; AS ELECTROMAGNETISM/energy is CLEARLY AND NECESSARILY proven to be gravity (ON/IN BALANCE) !!! I suspect his Pale Blue Dot speech will be remembered as a painful reminder of how lost humanity became before we went off a cliff via unchecked capitalism if we don't get our shit together by voting in progressives and do it soon. The GOP is outright treachery for society and corporate Democrats only pander towards addressing huge issues such as climate change, healthcare, etc. - Americans need to realize progressives who fight for average Americans and climate action are literally our last hope.

@@Cowicide I agree except I would say corporate Democrats only care to campaign on healthcare and climate change, but won't do enough to address them. They say things like universal access to healthcare which is like saying we all have access to a Lamborghini but mist of us can't afford it. We need single payer, or Medicare for All, like every other developed nation but centrist corporate dems will fight that as much as Republicans due to the money they get. Same with climate change. They'll all say we need to address it, but the ones taking that fossil fuel money will not do enough. They'll do enough to say they tried but will call necessary measures too radical. We need real progressives, not centrists pretending to be progressive to get elected.

I have admired, respected, listened to and learned from him since I was a small child. See you out there, somewhere... As for the rest of you, May the Universe accept your chosen paths and through fortune and favour, open them up to you.

Wish he were still here to explain the boundaries of our discoveries. Brilliant communicator and educator.

a new sagan video, 20 years later. its like Christmas :') The Q&A at the end is particularly amazing classic Sagan answers; the existence of god and the animal usage for biomedical testing answers were both incredibly insightful decades later.

Many of us who otherwise would have never had quality scientific instruction, not only recieved very good science lessons but the best scientific thoughts and concepts available, through professor Sagan's books. I cannot express sufficient gratitude for his legacy. We desperately need more people with his wit, his wisdom, his sharpness and his attitude. I just love him with all the strenght of my existence.

As a teacher of science, I was able to use the Cosmos series with my students. Most thought it was an amazing program, with so many interesting facts, stories and visual aides of the stars and planets, and of world history, the scientists of ancient times were shown in story format, just an incredible series, and even I learned something new every time we viewed this timeless production, If you haven't seen it, please do.
