His lyrical lines, sensitivity, clarity, total control of the instrument, are only a small part of who Carl Fontana was as a musician. Wonderful to share the stage with him if only for one gig that I will always remember in Hilton Head, S.C. RIP dear Carl Fontana, your music is not lost, we will have it forever to hear.

I love Carl's playing, but can we take a second to appreciate the rest of the band as well? The horns in this create some of the darkest and most luscious chords I've ever heard come out of a big band, simply beautiful!

Had an honor to share the same stage with Carl for whole 4 years at the SANDS, playing over 2,500 "Danke Schoens" during these times with "WAYNE NEWTON". THE BAND WAS WONDERFUL. Wayne was the hottest item on the Strip, we could not even get arrested. Golden Seventies) We all miss you dear Carl, RIP our dear Friend.

One of the prettiest, most coherent and masterful solo I have ever heard. Every note makes sense, at the same time every phrase is an elegant surprise. A true master.

I love to watch his slide hand. He has a sizable mitt, but moves his large fingers with grace and no wasted movement. And then there’s his doodle tonguing! The combination makes him SO fast and yet he’s very smooth and relaxed. There was only one Carl Fontana!

***** We had something like that at my high school jazz band :D In the solos the trumpets, tenor sax and trombones always included five or six notes from another song... Two of them actually did it in concert, discreetly. Anyways.
