I bring my Fuchsia inside before any frost damage and have plants live for 4 years easy. One year I forgot and the Fuchsia froze. I brought it in, cut them back, and in the spring it grew out to a good size. The hummingbirds loved it.

My Fuchsia is all dried out and the leaves are all brown one mistake I did is I hanged it where it got morning sun and later it got lot of sun… good to watch this helpful video i hope I can save my plant. I will try your tips and see if it does good. Thank you so much.

Thank you for this video! I was gifted a gorgeous hanging fuchsia for Mother's Day, but haven't been able to figure out basic maintenance. Lots of info about getting them ready for winter. Thank you for the seed pod info, I thought those were buds, lol, and now I have very few blooms compared to when I first got it. I hope I can get the hang of this, it's so lovely. I've noticed some wilting, and found some broken stems (probably too windy), and pruned those, but now I'm seeing yellowing of the leaves... not sure yet what to do.

you can over winter them. Trim back, take all leaves off, water and lay basket on its side. Put in basement or shed, water once a month and bring it out after all danger of frost/freezing. I've done mine like this for years😊Enjoy!

What is the best safest way to thin out a full hanging Fuschia (dollar princess) basket and create new baskets. We truly appreciate hearing that. 😃👍 Here is the short answer: If you want to thin your fuchsia plants, start by thinking how much thinning you are looking to do and what you want the plant to look like when done. If you want it to look full after you are done thinning, make your thinning cuts closer to the ends of the stems out towards the flowers. Pruning is such a huge topic and can get very specific for specific plants. We really want to help you with this and you have reignited our "Members Content" idea here for KZread. It's been under development for about a year, but stalled with everything else going on. Now we are going to make it happen! Look for more info in the next couple of weeks and we plan to make a video specifically on your question, because there are A LOT of gardeners wanting to know this and much more. I bought two Fuchsias last spring. It was my first experience with them. I consider myself to have a green thumb, but I could not keep these alive. They were on the north side of my house, hanging on the eave. I live in a very hot area,...zone 9. I am wondering if maybe they were diseased when I bought them or maybe they got too hot. I'm in Beaumont, Texas. The heat index is commonly 106 in the hottest days of summer.

Hi Monnie Mon! 👋 We are sorry to hear that happened. There are soo many factors that come lead to a plants death, so don't be hard on yourself. 😊 The best thing to do is not give up and definitely keep going and exercising your green thumb. 👍💪 Our garden successes come from our triumphs AND failures. There could have definitely been something wrong with these poinsettias before you bought them, where they had physical damage to them that just progressively got worse (that happened to us last year) or something else happened. Maybe, too, there is something this spring you can do to modify that area. We aren't that familiar with growing plants in your area, so it's hard to give you more help. It might help to call to talk with your local nursery or extension agency to ask if they have seen anything specifically happening to poinsettias in your region and possibly if there is anything to look for or be aware of. Just don't give up. 💪 You got this! 😉

What is preferred feed?

Hello. I’m somewhat new to gardening. Always loved it, but never had time nor space to do it. Well now I have the time and the space. So my daughter and son went and purchased quite a bit of plants for the flower garden, pots and hanging baskets. My son bought me a beautiful pink and purple fuchsia. It was so beautiful (still is a little), bright vibrant leaves and flowers. It did good for quite a while. It has been the only plant that has been hard to care for. I have been pruning and try to water when needed. I don’t have a place in garden or near home that is shady. I moved it against the home where it only got morning sun. It started to get reddish brown and yellow leaves, I would remove it the damaged leaves. Thought it was the sun. I also checked for bugs thinking it may be the culprit, nothing. Some of the leaves continued to turn and the buds opened partially (although there were still vibrant ones that blossomed beautifully). Tried to keep in shade, but still the same. The weather has been extremely hot and humid and also had thunderstorms for 4 days straight. I think it may have been overwatered it from the rain and also found out that my daughter and son in-law has been watering the plants as well. I really want to save it. It’s still budding and blossoming. How do I revive it? Do I stop all together watering it and do I I poke holes in soil as you did? Please help. I don’t want to lose it. Is there a way to revive it?

From what you are describing, it sounds like the hot heat, possibly over watering, are the main culprits for what you are seeing. Also, the morning sun could be an issue if really hot and intense. Definitely watch how much water it gets so it is not over watered and we would recommend putting it in mostly shade during high and intense heat. Hope that helps and let us know how it goes.

Spoken Garden Thank you so much for your reply. I have stopped watering it (only a light mist) and have been moving it from shade to shade. It’s still budding and is fighting hard to survive. I’m keeping an eye on it, I don’t want to lose it.

That's great! Make sure to definitely water it when it needs it and when the soil is getting on the drier side. You don't want it to go from too much water to not enough (one extreme to another). Also, maybe think of putting your plants on a written or digital watering schedule that is available to see by family and friends helping around your garden, since they are sooooo helpful 😃 and willing to care for your plants. That way, everyone helping knows and you don't have to worry about over or under watering any plants in the future. Just an idea ... Keep us updated and thank you again for watching. Hi Margaret! 👋 Thank you for watching and commenting. We did bring it in over the winter and made a separate video about how to do it. There was one thing we didn't do AND that was keep the fuchsia in it's hanging basket off the cold concrete surface of our unheated garage, and it unfortunately didn't make it through the winter. This next fall, we now know how to stop this from happening and will clear special space on our work bench so our fuchsia baskets can overwinter better. Thanks for being here and for asking! 😉👍

Hi Sandy! 👋 Great question and thank you for being here and watching! Any liquid fertilizer with a balanced fertilizer, like 8-8-8 or even a 14-14-14 will work fine. Fertilizing with these can happen every 5-7 days. Any balanced fertilizer will give plants what they need stay healthy and let them decide to flower more or put on more growth. You can use fertilizers with a slightly unbalanced nutrient ratio, like Dr Earths All Purpose Fertilizer (amzn.to/3f0lNWe) with a ratio of 4-6-5 and this will encourage plants to produce more flowers (and fruit, if veggies or actual fruit). There are some pelleted (time-release) fertilizers out there and they are formulated to give a little fertilizer each time you water. Make sure to follow the label instructions of whichever product you use. We used Dr Earths All Purpose Fertilizer last year for our fuchsia plants and other flower plants, and it worked great! As each individual plant in the hanging basket grows (there is usually 4-5 plants that make up any commercially grown/sold fuchsia basket), it is pinched at regular intervals to make sure that it continues to grow out to spread and not up. If you look into any basket, you can see these pinched points in the older growth closer to the soil. I can be fun and interesting to track each plants growth and pinch points. You can easily go around your plant and pull/pinch them off with your thumb and forefinger. Hope that helps and thanks again for being here! 😊👍

Hi,I am from Manipur India northeastern bordering mayanmar ,in summer we have 36 degree Celsius I have one fushia plant which have bloom this summer ,but the leaves started dropping I'm afraid if it will die it has one main branch with two three side branches ,should I prune it plis advice me I seek your advice

Hi Kamla! 👋 We appreciate you reaching out and asking your question about pruning. If you are having really intense and high temperatures right now and your fuchsia plant is already stressed with this hot weather, we would suggest that you not prune it so as not to add to any current stress to your plant. If your fuchsia plant is anything like ours, they prefer some morning sunlight but then dappled sun or mostly shade in the afternoon and during the heat of the day. If your plant is in full sun and is getting that direct intense heat, this could be causing your plants to stress and drop leaves. We had fuchsia plants last year that had some full sun and intense heat in the afternoon and evening. They started dropping leaves and turning bright yellow and brown. We couldn't give them enough water and they were under continuous drought conditions. They didn't like the full sun in the afternoon, so we moved them to the other side of our house where they got complete shade in the afternoon and evening. They stopped dropping leaves and their health returned as we were able to get them on a better watering schedule and get them out of their drought conditions. We would suggest, if you can, to move your fuchsia plant to a shadier location or provide it shade somehow during the hottest times of the day, along with making sure it is getting enough water (but not overwatering either) during these really hot day. Hi Cathi! 👋 Sorry we didn't get back to you sooner. Ugh. We hopw your fuchsia plant(s) is doing ok. As long as they have drain holes in the bottom of their pots or hanging baskets AND are planted in some kind of potting soil that drains well, you should be ok with keeping them out. We have ours hanging under our house eves and they don't mind a string of rainy days. They drain well and have those drain holes in their containers, so no worries. If you are really concerned about them getting too much water during rainy days, you definitely can get them under complete cover until the storms pass to then bring them back out. If it's a hard rain for a long time, then definitely try to protect them. Hope that helps and they are looking beautiful for you! Thank you for watching and asking us your question! 👍😉

Hi, even if it varies depending on environment and plant, it would be nice to be more specific about the watering because I acquired a Fuschia Charming 10d ago and it almost died of lack of water by following the same kind of advice you give in this video. It is a small fuschia, of 40cm diameter, and I was giving her 1/2l one day out of two, or everyday, depending on the weather. I put 1l yesterday and 1l today, plus I sprayed it heavily and many times, and it's now recovering. The plant is in a hanging basket (Coco liner), and since 3d ago, it has been very hot in London (30°). Because of all this drama about "just watering it a bit", I almost killed it. It's a guy on the net who gave me the right clue: he said a Fuschia in a hanging basket must be watered until water leaks out through the bottom of the basket, and that the risk of dying of lack of water is much more probable than from drowning the roots. So I did like he said and I figured out it needed 1l a day + spray on hot days. Apparently, the good combination is a lot of water + very good drainage. He said it's better to water it a lot and wait a bit, than watering a bit everyday. However, the plant is exposed to direct sunshines from 9am to 2.30pm, that could explain why it is so thirsty. Anyway, giving a few figures about watering based on plant size, exposition, weather etc. would really help.

Since every garden has slight or big differences between them and how each is cared for, watering any plant can vary a lot. This definitely holds true for what soil the plant is also planted in and it's placement under shaded or sunny conditions, in that specific climate.
