You mentioned that you were 5'8" wearing a small... But it would help to know your chest size and/or weight to help better judge the fit. I'd guess, perhaps, 37"/150lbs... So, a small would fit you normally but, it does seem a bit loose--almost like a M-L in other brands (I almost always go down a size in Carhartts 😊).

Super dux is very nice quality!! I personally think the vests carhartt makes now are top notch! The jackets can be a little trouble when it comes to fit especially if your inbetween sizes like i am. I started the winter using the new carhartt Montana Level 4 puffy. Wow super warm and durable, water resistant, etc. Great color choices. My complaint with the montana was the hood. Too tight and bangs your head when not in use. Sherpa lined hood on the montana doesnt work whereas it does with the super dux active hooded jacket. Kinda wish carhartt would offer Medium short or Large short, etc. The montana small was just not a good fit. So i recently bought the super dux active hooded jacket. Mainly because i work outside sometimes and i fish cold wet weather. I found the arm length on the medium too long. The hood is big too but made purposely that way to block the wind. Very durable and warm. Easy to wear. If the arm length was 2 inches shorter it would be my favorite jacket. I still like it and use it every day! But the vests are spot on!! Montana vest and the super dux! Just get the right fit and they will last for years! Carhartt rules!!

only in that it is designed to be worn over a hoodie. so theres space for layers
