Not 15 but 9 riders all on Packtalk bold's. It's surprisingly quiet. Cardo's noise cancelling works very well. Years ago this same group all had Sena 20s comms and they were a disaster. Never could get the whole group connected and even with just 4 riders the environment was very noisy. BTW, never really had an issue with voice commands on the Bold...

Nice review. I have ridden a couple of times with over 15 riders with Cardo. Most have the Bold and a few with the Slim. The conversations that carry on are incredible. Usually wise ass remarks or any topics. Also good for warning objects on road for riders behind the lead riders or letting us know of a scenic view to the side, or need to take a leak…etc. when there’s more than 15, some of us have to start a new group, unfortunately. I wish they would increase the capacity of the network mesh. I think the other competitor has 20(?). Anyways, if I was to buy one now, I’d probably get the edge for the wireless updates. Btw, that range is more like 200+ meters, not 1 km, from our experience.

Seriously considered upgrading from black to edge, but the major let down was the absence of mounting kits (not including the speakers/microphone). Since I've already invested audio kits for the bold/black on my other helmets, as much as I would like to upgrade, the my existing mounts won't be usable. They only sell mounts with the whole audio set. Would be great to simply reuse the speakers and microphones and just replace the mount/cradle itself.

nice review, I was especially interested in upgrade reasons. Although I get the feeling that you missed the packtalk slim. It does not have an antenna in the first place and is a lot sleeker than the edge if your Helmet allows to mount the Battery nicely. I have some additional Questions: While voice recognition was not a problem for me so far, hows the radio compared to the old? I have basically no reception, only a hand full channels without hissing and that changes with every movement. Also, has the Volume improved compared to the old JBLs? Last one is range, by what i mean real range. I experience connection loss after two or three turns through the forest, so maybe 200m and 500m at max without obtrusions. Has this improved? (Maybe someone else can share their feedback here aswell, I am very interested.)

My current UClear headset I have I have to place the speakers at the back of my ears and not in the helmet speaker spot as there is no room for them in this helmet. Just behind that spot is great I can't feel them but it also makes them harder to hear so I am looking at upgrading to this as it is all black and low profile. Would you say the loudness is adequate and better than others you have used ? TIA.

@@merlefisher3103 To be fair, Sena doesn't make cross-species communications easy either. Sena uses 'universal pairing' vs 'Cardo Gateway Bridge', pretty much the same idea as the other joins as a second mobile phone via limited range Bluetooth. FYI...plan to hear a lot of crackling and crappy voice communications. I was able to bridge a couple of Cardo DMC mesh down to a spare Sena 20S, then connect a Bluetooth Intercom to a 50S, who then turned on their mesh. It actually worked, with lots of crackly, static sounds, plenty of cursing (by me during the process) and a general feeling of 'this would be so much easier if there were a common protocol'. YMMV.

@@elisabethgrefalk6869 Honestly I'm not sure i'd bother and I wonder if they might release some updated ones a bit sooner. The sound is better and that's with having the extra jbl speakers but that's about it. Range is perhaps a little better. The buttons are much more difficult to use when you are on the go. I've turned the voice recognition off because it just kept turning the radio on at any sound though a friend that had the same issue thinks an update has made it much better. Not sure how long the rubber cover for the charging port is going to last either. Seems like a few flaws that they will hopefully fix

@@chrisjrattray Thanks for your answer! This is our 3rd set of Scala headsets, after G4 and G9, and the G9 were much better in quality in my opinion. We have riding buddies using Scala G9 still so we'll probably stick with Scala so we know it will work to connect. One of the Packtalk units have started behaving badly where the sound just disappears so we'll have to make an upgrade for next season, but we'll wait until then and see if they'll upgrade the Edge beforehand. The retail price for an Edge duo pack is about twice what we paid for the Packtalk duo kit on offer late 2017... For that price we'd like to actually get an upgrade, not just a replacement that might even be worse.

My Cardo Edge will start up by just pressing the media or front button by itself. The two-button act is needed to turn it off, but not to start it up. Is that the same for you? I had a Bold before the Edge, and it started up with just one button also.

I wonder if Edge fixed the next problem: when on parallel audio streaming (bluetooth mixing) the mobile phone's GPS or music is cutting audio making it impossible to listen while talking to intercom 1. It may be due to the fact on the other end is a Sena and not a Cardo, and it is on universal pairing. Doesn't matter if the phone is paired on channel 1 or 2, it does the same, which is weird since there are TWO Bluetooth channels. One should be used for intercom and one for phone, without cutting the audio. Even if love the Cardo's sound quality I don't use it because of that. My wife has a Sena and is impossible to talk to her and listen to GPS in the same time...

It’s not just because one’s a sena. Unfortunately lol. I bought the bolds for my bf and I, and we have the same issue. If we need GPS to go somewhere, we can hear it if we’re completely silent, but if we’re talking to each other, the GPS gets insanely quiet to the point you cannot make out a single word it’s saying, all you hear is a little tiny whisper that lets you know to shut up and hope it repeats the instruction when you get closer to your exit or your turn. It makes for a very frustrating ride . I wish they would fix that. I don’t mind the gps cutting our communication out for 2 seconds if it means we don’t miss our turns 20x in one ride. 😂

I used mine the first time last weekend. Love it but no one ever talks about the biggest problem. 5 or 6 people with an open mike. Cardo is addressing the problem with the private chat. Lets say you are on a ride with three other couples. You push the button to have private chat with your wife. She make disparaging remark about the size of her bleep! Well there is now way of knowing who heard the comment. Well if you have the phone on your handlebar and the app open you would know. If you have an I phone 12 or higher. Your handlebar mount will destroy it in one ride. It could be solved with a prompt. When you push the private but it could say. Your in private mode. Or your in group mode. Anyway I liked your video. Good job!

Thanks for the review. I've had a couple of Packtalk Bolds and convinced the mates I ride with to buy them. Never 15 of us but max of 6 at a time. My view, this product costs a lot of money and although the mesh idea is cool and rejoins riders there is no way the range has ever got to anywhere near 1 mile and defintely it is very difficult to hear some people when your speeds are 100kph. Often the person connected via bluetooth is clearer than those with Packtalks on the mesh network. So I question performance over cost. My next bitch is the USB charging connection and its constant failing so that you either have to buy another unit or find someone who will pull the unit apart and fix it. This is wear over time of charging but still annoying - especially if you buy from a site like Chromeburner and Packtalk locally will not support and tell you to send back to them ?? My next decision isn't whether to upgrade to the Edge but rather is there a better option out there ? Interested in your feedback Rob.
