I thought the epicardium was also the visceral pericardium and the outermost layer of the heart whereas the endocardium is the inner most layer of the heart that comes in contact with the blood...

I agree with this. I was watching these videos to brush up and now I'm concerned about the validity of the information being presented here. Please make sure to check over your slides for errors.

I went back and reviewed the slides and noticed the typo: On slide 2 it says epicardium (endocardium) -- it should say epicardium (pericardium). Sorry for the confusion, made worse by the references to endocardium twice on the same slide.

you say when the atria contracts AV valve close and S1 is produced and when the ventricle contracts the aortic and pulmonary valve close and S2 is produced. S1is produced by the closure of AV valve during ventricular contraction, S2 is produced by the closure aortic and pulmonary valve when the ventricle relax.

Shyamal, Thank you for watching my videos! I appreciate your review and comments. Please listen to the video again. In the video I say that the atria contract and then you will hear S1, not as a result of atrial contraction but as you mention as a result of ventricular contraction. The ventricles contract and then you will hear S2 -- after ventricular contraction. My point was the sequence of events, which may have been confusing.
