I was at this game. During the rain delay, they showed Pete Rose's ABs live from Cincinnati on the big screen. He had 4191 hits at the time. He would hit #4192 the next day.

The game after this on 9-11-85 is one of the greatest regular season games of all time.

Both teams were awesome. People hated the fact I think both mid to late 80's teams were so good. The Mets were so complete in every way, a team of superstars . If the Cards pitching were on and they were all healthy, no one could keep up with them. Love the switch hitting.

Thi Cardinals team led the NL in runs scored despite hitting less than 100 homers collectively. That could never happen today, but back then speed, lack of strikeouts, doubles and OBP could make up for a lack of power.

@@dzanier also don’t forget to mention the astroturf. The cards molded a team that was perfect for the AstroTurf at Busch stadium.

@@dzanier Those rbi's by Herr in 85 & 86. Even without the hr's I would have had him bat cleanup. When he came here to Philly, I was surprised that he only drove in 37.
