    It's always so sad hearing about 19th century antiquarians who recorded virtually nothing. It's a big sigh if relief when you have the odd one who understood context and was meticulous.

    Absolutely, some entries are quite hard to read... Richard Fenton often discribes 'attacking a mound' with the landowner, and you can't help but think 'noooo, not again!'
