Cardiff Central to Barry Island | FULL JOURNEY | Transport for Wales 150 Sprinter (via Grangetown)
Full journey from Cardiff Central to Barry Island on board a 4 carriage (2+2) Transport for Wales class 150 Sprinter. This was service called at all stations along the route and was filmed on the service from to Barry Island on May 2021.

Currently Transport for Wales are still operating a reduced timetable on the Cardiff Valley Lines however in the normal timetable services between Barry Island and Cardiff Central operate 3 times an hour with a 4th service from Barry to Cardiff originating at Bridgend. After Cardiff Central services continue via Cardiff Queen Street to Pontypridd an Abercynon before alternating 2 trains an hour towards each of Aberdare and Merthyr Tydfil. This timetable will only be in operation for a few more years as once the class 399 Citylink Tram trains are introduced on the core valley services services from Barry will all go towards Caerphilly, Bargoed and Rhymney and will be operated by the Stadler FLIRT tri mode units ordered by Transport for Wales.
This route is currently unelectrified and while some valley lines are now being electrified the route to Barry will for the moment remain unelectrified, however instead of being served by DMU trains will be served by Tri Mode trains instead.

Great video
Many of the Valley’s Lines journeys are so much slower than they were 20 years ago. Much much slower than 40 years ago but many trains were limited stop in the 80s.

The route from Cardiff to Barry will be getting 5 trains an hour when the new trains enter service.

What class are the new trains?
These are to be replaced by the Class 197, Class 231, Class 398 and Class 756 rolling stocks in the next couple years. And the Class 150 DMUs to be cascaded to Great Western Railway or Northern.
