Carchaeology: 1968 Meyers Manx Dune Buggy Time Capsule

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

Randy gives a tour of "MOG" the Manx, an all original and unrestored early "pre-tag" Meyers Manx Dune Buggy with an incredible history and documentation. One of the first 150 Meyers Manx bodies that was purchased directly from Bruce Meyers back at his Newport Beach location and assembled just down the street on Balboa Island, MOG went on to do what the Manx was designed to do...off road adventure! Two thousand miles of dirt roads through Mexico on its first adventure voyage in 1968 and a long life of fun and impressive care ever since, this one has come full circle.
This is History on Wheels!

    Wow I took a little break from the computer and kicked it back on to this little gem of a car, I remember when these came out at the height of my model car building career in I believe 1967 or possibly late 66? Lotta years gone by since them, I remember the diagrams to shorten the pans being in Hot Rod magazine!

    What an awesome find. SO many great details on that car! I remember how popular those were back in the day. As a kid, I even had a couple of Tonka toy copies.

    Super Cool 😎 Definitely one of my all time dream rides. Actually got to work the Baja twice in 2005 and 2006. Was a mechanic chasing the Wide Open Baja buggies through the entire course. It’s no joke now and was certainly no joke back then. Absolutely beautiful place to visit. Like no other I’ve ever seen. Love all the documents. Met Mr Myers at The Horsepower Ranch, while there. Thanks for sharing 😎👍🏆❤️

    Soooooooooo cool I love dune buggies. All I ever had was a '68 baja I put bus transaxle in with an engine from a porsche 911. Goofy carb set up too. 2 Holley/Weber 5200's on a custom built intake. Sure was fun.

    I tend to agree, but the original builder Craig put these on back in the 70s at the latest , so the Porsche nipple caps stay.

    So the carbs have their own oil bath air cleaners. Then the air filter on the rollbar isn't used?

  • @Carchaeology

    @Carchaeology

    Yes, the air filter on the roll bar was not in use after conversion to dual carbs at some point in its history.

    The weird thing is the price of these things. Buy a kit from Meyers for $4800 and build your own for around $20,000-$25,000 complete brand new or buy an old Meyers Manx for what reason? Make your own memories......Had a knock off back in 2001 and it was fun and it cost less than $4000.

    Different strokes for different folks. Some folks appreciate history, some don’t. Both are fine choices. For me? I’m goin old school!

    @@Carchaeology I get history but since you can still buy a Manx dune buggy which is numbered and pretty much cheaper and built the way you want and cheaper. They both are pretty much identical..but if you are buying a 1969 Dodge charger against a 2010 Dodge charger I would go old school.

  • @Carchaeology

    @Carchaeology

    @@johncaban4310 the thing is, they really aren’t the same, especially when it comes to the parts and details. Also collectors know and care about that history, and the value is affected by that. Look at it like a quarter. A new quarter is worth 25 cents , but an old quarter in mint condition can be worth a hundred bucks...why? Because history matters, rarity matters, and condition matters. It all depends on what turns you on. If your plan is to go beat a Manx on the trails of Baja...go with something new. If you are a collector that is after rarity and condition, vintage is the only way.
