Carcassonne walking tour with local guide

travel videos & photos at: townsofeurope.com/ with text, maps & links.
Carcassonne is one of the most authentic medieval towns in Europe, surrounded by a huge wall and perfectly preserved as it looked five centuries ago. The only way to see it is by walking, and we are led by a local expert, Philippe Miro, who shows us all the highlights and little-known parts of town. We also look inside the Castle Museum at the many fine exhibits that tell the history of this special place.

I lived in Paris in the 1970's and visited Carcassone more than 3 decades ago. France really is very beautiful. The French government has done a superb job in maintaining its towns, villages and medieval chateaux. Hope France will remain as beautiful for centuries to come. Thank you for the video.

I am so glad to see these. I've never been to Europe and I want to go to places like these so bad. Sometimes all I can find are slideshows and it drives me nuts.

visited in the fall of 2013 - we were staying in a castle near Rennes Le Chateau the night before and did the Holy Blood and the Holy Grail tour after an afternoon check in at the castle - went to Carcassonne the following day because it was the local big city in the story about Rennes Le Chateau - we didn't know there was a perfectly preserved medieval village in the middle of the city - it was a pleasant surprise and of course we toured inside the walls

I was walking around the outside walls and found a bunch of French coins in the grass. Someone had thrown them off of the battlements or a tower.

Charlemagne laid siege to the castle and the lady whose husband was away was in charge. He bypassed it because she fooled him into thinking that his siege was not successful.

Oh those English speakers! They manage to vocalize "double S", so Carcassonne becomes [KarkaZon]. Strangely, in some words like "casino" even a single S is not vocalized.
