Caravan Dealer Shake up, Prices About to go crazy?

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

Caravan Dealer Shake up, will this send Caravan Prices crazy, or drop like a brick. The Caravan glasses guide is about to be cancelled, this is how caravan Dealers have priced caravans for many years.
So what will it mean for the caravan market and caravan prices now there is no true price guide?
We look at how we will value our used caravans and what we are doing to prepare for the shut down of glasses guide.
If you are looking to buy a used caravan or motorhome then visit our website for all our caravans for sale and motorhomes for sale. Https://www.thecaravanplace.com

Caravans have issues: you are locked into sites, which are expensive - add up all the bills for a year and the questions arises: Why have a caravan?

If you need to ask that, then you are probably not ideally suited to a caravan. We would rather have the style of holiday freedom it provides. I can't imagine spending our holidays it any other way! Certainly not using a hotel for starters!

It's like everything, if one thing worked for everyone we would all be pretty boring. Very true though, if you don't get the use then a caravan isn't worth it. So it's not for everyone 👍

@@thecaravanplace I would appear that a combined caravan sales and camping ground would be the solution. The clubs don't help - they manage to be more expensive than private grounds - and therefore useless. Perhaps the problem is the councils, restricting where people can stop and where small sites can be located. But the reality is that when a hotel is cheaper than the whole caravan scenario, you're going to lose customers.

We thought about buying a caravan ,but we found they were too expensive. We have decided to book a holiday abroad as its not just the caravan price but also the site fees and servicing costs which have gone through the roof. Rip off, britain is back. GOOD LUCK WITH THAT ONE.

Hi Mark , my view is a van is only worth what someone is prepared to pay for it . I am in the market for a new MH. I have got 3 PX prices from 3 dealers for the same van , same spec for delivery in early 2025 . We have a difference of over £22000 on the valuation of our PX between the 3 dealers . Absolute madness ! If dealers PX allowances crash then I think Mr Joe Public just won’t be able to afford to find the cost to change. Many dealers have used stock which stands them in at high money . New vans are now being discounted and stock availability has softened. I worry some dealers are in a very vulnerable position at the moment . Cash is still king and dealers need turnover and profit to survive . Just my view and experience of what I have found in the last month or two in our search for a new MH .

The market in Australia has been in a nosedive in the last 12 months, we bought our Swift 654 last year for 50K AUS and they were selling in a few days, I could buy the same van now for 40K, all the Covid purchases are flooding onto the market.

If price comes down on trade in then prices will have to follow on new ones ,people will sell more privately on used and then go and get reduced prices on new because they won,t be selling dealers already wan,t to buy low and still sell high I will certainly keep mine if they do you can already see it this year on how long they are keeping in stock . Biggest piece of advice is take a reasonable profit or you will kill the mouth that feeds you and that includes all businesses

Hi, As caravan owners we had a trip to our local dealer over the weekend to buy some essentials. While we were there, we had to have a look round and could not believe the reductions on 2024 vans upto 7k, however we did notice that this was mainly on elddis 😮. Is this a reflection on the market or the brand 🤔. Agree with previous comment a van is only worth what you will pay for it as a dealer or what we would pay for it as a buyer. Market now saturated so bargains to be had.

  • @davidlewins4631

While I agree with the general principle of it being worth what you will pay for it, I would modify the statement & say it is worth what someone else would pay for it! For example if there was van at 25k & I feel it is only worth 20k but someone offers 23k it is going to be theirs. The vans that will have the most value drop will be the ones that have hung around for a while & therefore not as appealing. Would you want it either? However it pans out it'll be interesting.

@G-ra-ha-m : So wrong. Caravan owners are NOT tied to caravan sites/parks! A group of my mates can be found NOW camping for 1 to 9 nights (whatever is best for them) at a Temporary Holiday Site (THS) at Corbridge in Northumberland (lovely village a short walk away, pubs, Roman remains etc with market town of Hexham nearby) - cost of £10 per unit per night. Rugby clubhouse (loos!) 50 yards away and Cricket Club (loos again!) not much further. Hardly an expense! And next weekend it's a farmer's field at Grinton next to the River Swale (literally over a bridge to the village pub) and a short walk to Reeth, and the week after that a weekend in a field literally next to the entrance to the shared NT/English Heritage site at Fountains Abbey and Studely Royal (World Heritage Site) near Ripon - again £10 per unit per night. That could be a couple or a family with 3 children etc. How can that be thought expensive...? Ignoring the 4 week Beadnell THS on the Northumberland Coast later in the summer (100 yards from the beach, 2 fields from the Camping Club Site, 0.5 mile to Beadnell village, 2 miles to Seahouses & another 3 or so to the wonderful Bamburgh with its castle etc, and Alnwick with its castle and gardens & the fishing village of Craster (kippers!) nearby. Once you have your van & towcar, weekends & holidays are almost free. You'd spend £10 a day at home! Like carrying a mobile hotel and plonking it where best suits you ...

as a motorhome dealer who hasn't looked in the guide fir motorhomes if they even still have one fir 15 years uts about time the caravan trade followed suit, its an archaic system and only sort of worked fir caravans as there are so few variations and the trade weirdly stuck to it so closely . Not overly hard to use hiur brain to work out where things should stand and as with motoehomes some will be worth more to one dealer than another

Looked at trading a 2021 van for another model a month or so ago. We have air con, movers and E and P fitted and the value was no different to a standard van, “ there is no value in extras, they just make a van easier to sell” was the response. Not sure where the Caravanning game is headed, no new ICE cars will mean older towing vehicles bing in extended use as adequate EV battery tech is still decades away, despite all the wild claims that have been made for many many years now, so towing heavy caravans or anything more than short distance trips will just be too much hassle. This is undoubtedly going to be a key factor affecting prices. Seems like our van and tow car will have to see us out of our caravanning ventures, not for a while yet though.

  • @thecaravanplace

It's always a difficult one with extras as some will value them and some won't, we find movers are something a big proportion of people want and so adds value. 👍

People need to stop making everything a stock market. That's why we can't afford homes cars etc. Everything is up for bid to the highest bidder or payee. Greed Hurst everyone in the end, because even the greedy will have to pay through the nose. Inflation will go so high that you need a truck load of cash to buy a loaf of bread. No house should cost more than 100k . To build or to buy. End the stock market scam.
