I think this applies to all vehicles with a purge valve. I just replaced the purge valve on my 2012 Cadillac SRX with drivability problems and hard starting after filling the gas tank. Problem solved, The codes indicated lean fuel both banks 1 and 2 and high pressure in the evap system.

Having this issue with my 2016 LR Discovery Sport. Having trouble finding the part number and location of the purge valve...any guidance?

This happened to me at the pump a couple of weeks ago. My 02 Oldsmobile Alero wouldn't start after getting gas. I was pretty much on Empty and filled my tank up. My car started, sputtered, and shut off in about 2 or 3 seconds. I tr wouldn't start immediately, so I let it sit for about 5 to 10 minutes. I tried to start it again but it wouldn't start. I let it sit for about 10 minutes and tried again. This time it started normally. I don't know what the issue was, but next time I won't let the fuel get so low and hopefully I won't have that issue again.

Did it on a kia rio 2011. and it still does it. does that mean that it could be the carbon cannister that it is busted? or the gas pump?

My 2008 Audi A4 has thrown codes for MAF and turbocharger recirculation valve. I hope this little part it the key to all the problems, I have to fill up with the car running and even in little spurts while filling I have to stop every $4 or $5 and let the car get its breathe. It'll start throwing out black smoke from the tail pipes and sputter while I'm filling it so I stop, wait, then keep on going over and over till it's full. I was told even my turbocharger needed replacing (I guess that's why I have black smoke when getting gas).

Do not overfill your gas tank. There is a hose at the top of the gas tank neck that sends FUMES to the engine to be burned off. Overfilling the gas tank causes gas to run down that hose and wreck your purge valve usually keeping it in the open position so that when you fill up the gas fumes go into your engine making for a hard start. The purge valve should normally be closed when the engine is off.

I'm having the same exact issue with my 99 2.0L mk4 Golf. After I fill it up it won't start then after like 10 cranks it starts but I have to keep the foot on gas and not let it off otherwise it shuts off again. I do have a few of those purge valves. I'll change it tonight and I'll open the gas cap for like a minute. I'll close it back and see if the car starts fine.

@@MidknightMechanics yes it was the purge valve. I changed it that night and never had the problem starting the car after filling it up with fuel. Thanks for the video!

mk7 gti, idles rough and throws all sorts of misfire codes and epc + cel light after fueling. No codes related to evap, but seems to me that it could be the purge valve since it will run better after a couple restarts and throttle input. Could a bad purge valve not throw any evap codes but lots of misfire codes?

To me that sounds like mass air flow sensor or vacuum leak. CRC makes a high quality MAF sensor cleaner- first thing I would do is remove it and follow the can on how to spray it down.

Did you ever find a fix? I’m having the same problem with my Mk5 GTI.

I have an issue the car star but i need tu pump the gas pedal and it starts after the 6th time any advise what it could be

So in a fuel injected, fly-by-wire car like this one, pumping the gas pedal won't do anything my friend. The throttle flap will not actuate (move) until the engine is running. You sound like you have this issue, from my video. Have you noticed it takes more cranks to start, after getting gas?

I'm having this same problem with my 07 Audi A4 3.2 Quattro everytime after I put gas in it it has a problem cranking up

Honestly, no. It won't stall a car as far as I know. To not be able to restart, this really sounds like in-tank fuel pump Marque.

I just replaced this same part in my audi a4 2.0T and man that little thing makes such a huge difference. No more acting like it wants to die after I fill up BUT now the gas pump keeps stopping when I fill up 🤔 if I just replaced it and it's working fine then why is it doing this now? 🙄

The car also has an air vent valve by the evap charcoal canister by the gas tank under the car. That usually fixes that problem

Same with my 2011 Jetta . Have to pump gas pedal for it to start . Originally I though it was my gas cap but now I assume not .

I have 2005 VW PASSAT.... SAME ISSUE..... WON'T START AFTER ⛽ GETTING GAS... THEY TELLING ME IS THIS PROBLEM.... AND I NEVER CHANGED FUEL FILTER TOO... SO I GETTING 2 PARTS TOMORROW.... FUEL FILTER & PURGE VALVE.... HOPEFULLY THIS WILL FIX MY PROBLEM..... CAR RUNS GOOD.... SO IT CAN BE ONLY THIS THE PROBLEM.... I BELIEVE PLUS I NEVER CHANGED THE FUEL FILTER MUST BE SO DIRTY....
