Legend has it airpods guy is still driving this Soul.

You can drive fine in a 2wd car, just keep your momentum going, don't slam the gas or the brakes, and you will be fine.

I see a lot of comments saying 2wd have no business being out driving in conditions like this. Well, a decent set of snow tires put on all 4 rims will help a lot. Put them on when the temperature dips to roughly 45 degrees and lower and you will be fine. Even two snow tires on a front wheel drive is great. A good container in the trunk with sand will help add weight and can provide traction in case you do get stuck and a folding shovel is a good idea as well. Car mats under the tire can work in a pinch as well.

I believe that the location is a suburb of Portland, Oregon. It rarely snows here. So there is no point installing snow tires unless one likes to ski on Mt. Hood. Still though, carrying chains or traction devices would make all the difference at times like that.

I have a Kia Soul and live in PA. Drove up a snowy icy hill with no problem (3inches of snow). Problem is when they felt the wheels start to slip they stopped. Should have kept going yeilding.

@@lilpeppa117G The biggest thing was going too slow up the hill. You need momentum. If you had snow tires you'd be fine, but with all seasons, if you stop on an incline the car will never overcome it's inertia to start again.

I drove through 9 inches of snow with blizzak tires. I can't do that with summer tires.

@@davidlodiemyer5698 Living in Sweden.. We have real winter Evert year. Winter tires is way more needed than AWD. This would be no match with good winter tires. The diffrence with AWD-cars is that they have to be towed from a spot gurtyer from the road. :D They always drive faster when going off.

My daughter has a Kia Soul. We used to drive an hour to work together. Winter time, the Soul did better in snow and icy conditions than any sedan I've ever had.

@@kzayas6940 Traction control can be a hindrance in deep stuff, but gentle application of throttle while sawing the steering wheel back and forth often climbs well in shallow snow. She should carry a bag or 2 of kitty-litter or melt-salt in the car. 'Climb a bad hill in reverse, with a FWD, if she has to. I just buy an AWD/4WD for snowcountry, and put heavily-siped, snow-capable tires on it. A winch is nice when you're away from main roads too. Selectable lockers and traction mats can work wonders in deep stuff.

The guy at the end of the video said "I would park the 2 wheel drive and not drive." Lol.

When I got stuck on the hill to my house, I backed down all way down the street picked up speed and made it up.

I’ve been there. Up until about 8 hours ago, I was the owner of a Kia Soul. In Pennsylvania, of all places. Last winter, I got stuck in the snow in mine, while cars crashed all around me. That was terrifying. It took me 5 hours to get home. I’ve seen mixed reviews about Souls in the snow, but my vote is thumbs down, lol. 👎 AWD forever. 💕

We have two Kia Souls and they are both great in the snow . A 2014 and 2017.

I lived in SUDDEN VALLEY.. snow capital of Whatcom County for areas with people living in a snowy area...and I was there during January , February and March with a 2015 Kia Soul which is 2WD. I not ONE SINGLE TIME got stuck or even slid out and I drove on top of 11 inches of snow after the heavy 2nd round of snow. 4X4 douche trucks, Every 1500, 2500, 3500 series trucks, lower end and higher end SUV's, an ambulance, you name it.. and tons of 4 wheel drive Subaru's...stranded in some cases up to 3 weeks on the side of the roads up there. And for my first winter living up here growing up on the US Gulf Coast, I did absolutely fine.. why? Cause I had snow tires. All season tires like any tire regardless of it being 2WD or 4WD don't mean s**t if you don't have traction. My Blizzak tires in extreme cold stay soft, they dont get super hard and thus go anywhere on the road. And I even drove up numerous mountains and back down on hard snowed over roads with ZERO issues . Its all about the tires..either have em on, or your not going anywhere!

Scary. And now we have more coming, starting tonight. Black Ice is no joke. I am NOT driving.

My Kia Soul exactly did the same today. It was snowing today Feb 11, 2019 here in Bellingham WA. My Soul slid as it was going up hill.

Yea, trying to go up hill with any FWD drive in snowy condition without a set of winter tires is always a scary experience. Been there, done that. It is just the weight shift to the back of the car and the front wheels have a lot less weight pressing on them to the ground. You need all the extra traction you can get your hands on just to get going. I switched to AWD and added a set of winter tires and I have never experienced any problem driving in snow again.

I drove this year in Washington's snow "storm" in my 2018 6 speed manual Honda Civic LX sedan with the stock all season tires, the Hankook Kinergy GT. The car had 9000 something miles on it and I drove in the snow, in my parents' 1998 5 speed manual Subaru Forester S, only one time in my life before this recent snow event. I never got stuck because I have studied and asked many people how to drive in the snow as I was growing up. Also watching KZread videos about snow driving definately helps too! This year applied my knowledge to the snow field! I admit, I was afraid of going up hills during this winter at first but I swallowed my fear and just went for it. All I did was keep it in 2nd gear or higher depending on the gear I feel the car is gripping, kept the wheel straight, most importantly I feathered the throttle, never made sudden movements and never let off the throttle until I passed the top of the hill. Also driving in other people's tire tracks definately helped! Don't forget! Turn off your traction control as soon as possible when you see your vehicle isn't going anywhere and the traction control light keeps on flashing in your guage cluster. It'll save you alot of headaches! Then turn your traction control back on once you feel like the road you are on is flat enough. Overall, use common sense, take care of your car, especially observing your tire's tread depth, condition and the tire's air pressure, and make sure you are using tires that are appropriate for this cold weather! Don't be driving race or summer tires out in the snow, you're going to have a bad time! BTW, my Hankook tires from what I read from other people's reviews. They're terrible for snow driving and I managed to make it through safetly. 30 something miles foward to work and back to home, from friday till tuesday! I'm glad I got to live this winter's storm, I gained alot of experience quickly! HA HA!!

I live in Michigan and I’ve never owned snow tires or a car with AWD. I guess I should be arrested.

This polar vortex has been awful. It’s been a shit show on Vancouver Island too. So much snow, and ice. Even with really good winter tires i’ve gotten stuck a few times this week in parking lots and side roads. It’s brutal.

Dangerous stuff.

Worst thing you can do is stop once you stop you los all momentum and it’s hard to get going again cause the tires can’t grip the road and the weight of the vehicle pulls you down the hill. Everyone should have gave her a push from behind with slow acceleration she should also put the transmission into low give you the most torque with less upshifting

Never loose the momentum of your speed on uphills , if not your are stuck

Lower down the tire pressure around 15 psi. Helps some.

The Kia Seltos would be a better in the snow. Simply having snow tires doesn't replace AWD

Since Seattle don’t get snow much , make sense why ppl don’t have snow tires , Portland the same way , snow then a sheet of ice.. could of used the floor mats

I work for AAA in philly, i drive a soul 10hrs a day , wit no problems as long as its not something crazy, with the proper tires. but still, i rather stick to my awd car.

Get a snow tires and set the snow tires.

If you don't have winter tires stay home you're too dangerous! If you have the correct tires you can try in reverse to put all the weight on the weels

Turn off traction control to speen the wheels to make up hill.

Little trick that can be of help with a front wheel drive try backing up a hill when struggling obviously traffic was an issue here

I own a 2015 soul and it is thee worst vehicle in the snow that I've ever driven period ,had a 1987 honda civic that was like a tractor in the snow compared to my soul ,when it snows the soul stays put !!!

I totally agree. I had a 2014 Kia Soul and now have a 2019 Kia Soul. Terrible in snow. The traction control kicks in when the wheels spin and you go very slow.

I had a subaru forester for 10 years and now a 2017 Kia Soul. Its very good in the snow for a front wheel drive. I have 4 new ultra grips winter tires and a lot of quebec winter driving experience. The car is 3300 lbs without occupants and has a short wheel base. This Keeps the car planted. The body roll actually helps shift the weight to the tires that need traction in turns. Turns off all driving assist and put it in sport with manual shift and you can have some serious fun with the hand brake . Anyone who says its bad in snow dosent know how to winter drive a 2wd.
