I like how people that enjoy listening to GBV and CSHR are complaining about sound quality
GBV and CSH fans complaining about poor sound quality. Oh that's hilarious. Good cover.

Marty Cray it’s not about the sound quality, it’s about the actual sound itself. It’s a terrible cover. If you’ve ever listened to the original song then you wouldn’t be so clueless

So cool that u know of GBV. My appreciation of CarSeat Headrest is even higher.
Why do people even get mad about covers? The original song will always exist Anyway this was alright

Good cover. My bandmates asked me ''...what is this song ABOUT??'' This song and most other GBV tracks are simply-put expressionist pastiches of imagery, stylized and abstracted not unlike a Picasso or in the case of Bob pOLLARD, MORE LIKE A Frances Bacon or one of Paul Klee's nightmarish fantasy drawings of miniature creatures. That or Gertrude Stein, wILLIAM bURROUGHS ''CUT-UPS'', Captain Beefheart or even Mark E. Smith and the Fall are antecedents to most GUIDED BY VOICES songs. They are NOT just obscure lyric writing and you would have to plumb the depths of R.Pollard's mind to uncover any ''meaning'' in his songs so If you are waiting for Robert Pollard to tell you a story in a linear way or to reveal the meaning of life to you then you're in for a long wait and you better look elsewhere. Beware of pure obscure imagery with nothing to express though and remember what Truman Capote said about The Beats when they emerged in the 50's: writers like Kerouac, Ginsburg and Burroughs, Capote was heard to quip : ''that's not writing it's TYPING!! i don't think anyone can accuse R.Pollard of that exactly. Pollard writes in a style involving swirling ,surreal imagery, onomatopoeia, melodic vocal hooks and carefully and not-so-carefully placed rhythms and rhymes. Any takers? I'M WAITING!!

Timothy J. Horan you are correct for the most part, but the little touches of clarity are what make the abstract imagery important. In the case of this song - “But the judges and the saints And the textbook committee Decided you should be left out Not even mentioned” is very evocative of bobs story at the time as a teacher and family man turned professional musician. My interpretation of that is his use of the judges/saints/textbook committee are his family, friends, and the music industry that has all but ignored guided by voices up to that point. Ignored so much that not only should they be left out of the festivities, but not even mentioned. That’s a very poignant lyric to anyone over 30 making music or doing any kind of art chasing their dream. A lot of their songs have those shiny hints of emotional clarity that tie it together, and they make it more than just a song in most cases

But the song overall id say is relatively about the emotion of lost time and the feeling of missed opportunity, if I were to consolidate all of that down to a single sentence blurb

It's not a particularly difficult lyric to parse. The song's about individualism in the face of oppression, conformity, and unjust treatment.
It's about Pollard's time as a school teacher and he's talking about some magic-ass teacher who was fired after the first semester teaching. (in the summer that you came... in the winter that you left...) Clearly didn't get along with the vampires (the bureaucrats) who needed new blood to sustain their dying veins. It's poetry people. Try reading some.

Yep absolutely correct, no need for further questioning. I'm gonna leave with you
[Verse 1] In the winter that you came There was something eating everyone summer- And the sunshine fund was low We couldn't greet you with a simple hello And the watchers of the flood Were busy in their chambers Making sure there was new blood To sustain their dying veins [Chorus] But I believed you No need for further questioning I-I'm gonna leave with you You can teach me all you know Which way will we go now On our trip to taller buildings? I really don't know now I really don't know [Verse 2] In the winter that you left There was business as usual With the same old fears and frustrations But the word got out, it was really such a pity But the judges and the saints And the textbook committee Decided you should be left out Not even mentioned [Chorus] But I believed you No need for further questioning I-I'm gonna leave with you You can teach me all you know Which way will we go now On our trip to taller buildings? I really don't know now I really don't know (this is what he sings but he changed a few words)

Been really diggin' Car Seat Headrest as of late. I've been purchasing Matador Records since the early-90's; so a big thank you to Gerard Cosley & Company for _always_ signing / exposing great new artists. And I'll always remember those days not too far into the past; when most Matador Records LP's were $8 postpaid. I always dug the fact you could order 3 LP's for exactly the price of 2 CD's! Anyway, I thank the uploader & artiste
