Car Free Cycling 😍 Cycling the Bath to Bristol Railway Path

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

I'd heard so much about the cycle path between Bath to Bristol so I couldn't resist going for a ride when in Bath for a couple of nights. It's about 25km/15miles each way and being that the path is made from an old railway line it's quite flat making a great ride for anyone.
It was a sunny day and we saw so many cyclists, young and old and all abilities enjoying the path. Should you ever find yourself in Bath or Bristol be sure to give it a try.

Not sure if you’re featured it in any of your other videos. But the Twin Tunnels route that starts in Bath and can link on the canal towpath. The two tunnels are quite special as when I last went there there was ethereal sounds being played in them as you cycle their length

I'm sure you will have many Brompton adventures, the Brompton my husband got really changed how he viewed cycling. He saw it not just a sport/exercise but as a mode of transportation and suddenly he was riding around in normal clothes!

At last! A proper paved cycle path in England! Not gravel patch, a sheep pasture or a narrow road. I can't wait until the paved Tweed Valley Cycleway from Moffat to Berwick on Tweed is finished in 2027. A tarmac cycle path from the land of John McAdam himself. The world is waiting for this ride. See you there!

One of my favourite routes, used to do day trips by train from Cheltenham just to ride it. The Bristol end has been spoiled by the conflicts between pedestrians and cyclists as more obstacles are being put in place to slow cyclists. Badly needs a cyclists only route building on the busiest section.

  • @OneLessCar

You are completely right about that, some widening and segregating would be the smart thing to do along the busiest of sections at a minimum.

It's quite a good path that. You can spot the dog walkers, couples holding hands and pram pushers from a long way away and gently coast down to a slower speed. Obviously watch out for leads across the track, though the owners will pull them in if you ding your horn/bell. Even the canal path is quite good but don't try to use it as a race track.

Nothing as dramatic as a crash. Nathan had the BMC in for a tune up, and to get a creaking noise checked and the mechanic found a crack in a hole made to allow for DI2. A tiny tiny crack. It was lucky timing because he has 2 months left in the warranty. But very sad because it's a beautiful bike and he just got new wheels to match. He's waiting on the arrival of the replacement frame which we are pretty sure is silver and orange. So we might both be riding new bikes for the Vätternrundan next month.

It was fun in the tunnel, something about it makes you want to race (no wind either). I've since been told in the other direction from Bath there's more tunnels. I'll be sure to check them out once I move down to the area 😀 my guess is the lights are 24/7 it's a busy commuter route all year round.

The Two Tunnels Greenway south of Bath has the most impressive tunnels. The longest Combe Down is a mile long (1.6km) and much smaller. Quite a surreal experience to race through it and you can't see either end due to curves. The lights used to go off a night not sure if they still do. Anyone out at night would have lights anyway. Something to do with bats I think.

Reminds me of the Dutch bike-paths through the dunes on the coast. They are also very busy at weekends with walkers, runners and cyclists. There is never any confrontation. I wouldn't use them if I was in a hurry though. ' Nice 'n easy does it. Love the video. Nice mood. Go-Pro Camera angle makes it look as if Nathan's head is about to hit the bridge girders! Ouch. Often take bike on train and then cycle home. Avoiding rush hours and headwinds of course. What's that device dangling down your back? GPS?

It's a pretty easy route, we followed nation cycling network route 4, I believe sustrans has details. We went off of it to avoid some sections of canal paths around Reading but I wouldn't recommend it, we ended up on a busy dual carriage way for a while, and with the traffic in Reading itself I'm not sure if we saved much time.

Road around Richmond have bad traffic during rush hour, that walking, kick scooter or cycling is the only way to get around Mortlake/Barnes/East Sheen. You right about the aircraft noise too.
