Solution to the cons: 1. Use both front & back dashcams for max coverage 2. Don’t use cabin dashcam unless you’re an Uber driver 3. Keep the Mic off all the times 4. In case of any accidents, immediately remove the dashcam. Use the footage only if it’s benificial for you 😅

Do you remember the time when various high courts had to intervene and prevent the mandate of having arogya setu app on phone for visiting malls and various places? people were being harassed, manhandled and thrown in jail by police for not abiding with this rule.

How to deal with cons 1. Wiring/Panel Fitting => Get it done with professional service 2. Limited coverage => No deal breaker, somthing is better than nothing 3. Battery Drain => Do not hardwire or start your car frequently 4. Insurance claim rejection => Do not share footage unless it is fully clear that there was no fault on our side 5. Privacy risk => Do not do sensitive talk/act in your vehicle 6. Data security => If it is not connected to internet, no data security risk. While connecting with dashcam using Hotspot, put your phone in airplane mode 7. Legal implications Consult a lawyer before sharing the footage for favorable judgement

Hi, I think Dash Cam can be more useful in Commercial Vehicles cabs like OLA/Uber and also in Schools Cabs/ Buses for enhancing & ensuring safe driving by driver, security, as well as monitoring in case of any mishap, conflicts etc. The recorded video link in case of OLA/Uber may shared with user after completion of trip and shall be accessible for few days. It can be easily integrate with trip start and stop as well. And I thought being public vehicle, there will be no issue of privacy.

Well, I do not have a dash cam. BUT - 1st the 360 degree coverage is available with 70mai and DDPAI dashcams. It is an additional component for cabin coverage. Mostly useless for private drivers but very useful and helpful for drivers who are on hire. They can record and challenge misbehaviour/lies of passengers. Quite widely used in countries like US. - Battery drain is negligible. One can disconnect the dashcam if one intends not to use the car for sometime. But it is not a major issue as cars HAVE to run at least on alternative days. Generally if a car does not run on an average 20-30km/day, it is not a worthwhile expense. On the contrary its a very wrong choice and complete waste of money. - Wiring: People should always go to car showroom service centers where there are many a time professionals available for fitting and it can be done professionally. - If you use ANY phone other than Pixel, iPhone or Samsung AND if you use any app on the android which is not carefully evaluated by Android then anyway you are hacked or data is compromised. If you are so much concerned about privacy the better not use any smartphone. Besides, knife can kill so does it mean knife should not be kept at home in kitchen for cooking purposes? Then the same argument with Smartphones and data security. As long as you buy phone manufactured by CHINESE companies which are owned by CHINA or CHINESE like Oppo, Vivo, ...etc. your data is anyway compromised. - regarding legal. Do you think ur dashcam is the ONLY camera in the town? There are many CCTVs installed at many places like residential buildings, apartments, shops, malls, offices, ...etc. which capture entrance, premises and also many a times roads. If a conglomeration of images are done from many cameras around one can easily identify who is at fault. This police does use this when there is crime or accidents. IMPORTANTLY these days I have seen city administration implementing a lot of camera at various points in city. And I guess this is to keep a check on speed and in case of accidents on the event. There are different cameras installed by gov for different purposes. Speed camera are different from monitoring cameras at junction. Besides with HSRP reaching 100% implementation in next 5-7 years, the cameras installed by city administration can easily read the number plate and solve a lot issues. When I say city administration I mean cities outsides of major metros and major cities. It is almost getting implemented everywhere now but slowly of course. But till I guess there is at least 90% HSRP implementation, they will not force it for legal purposes. Besides, it is always better to drive sensibly presuming that you are always under watch and under the speed of 40 in town and unde 70 or 80 at max on empty highways. Because NO Indian road is built to sustain a speed of 70 or more. In fact 60 or more. - On legal implications, dashcams GO A LONG WAY in HELPING drivers because Indian law is skewed in favour of pedestrians and 2 wheelers who drive crazy and are born to drive rash (most of them) without complying with any rule of the land. And after accident many a times it is difficult to prove to police that mistake was not of the car driver.

This actually makes sense.... Having dashcams comes at a privacy risk but if used carefully and not connected to smartphones all the time, they behave as standalone devices, and as for the wiring goes, if you donnot use the hardwired kit for parking surveillance, then there is no battery drain as the cam is on only when the car is on, also doesn't void warranty. It's always better to be a responsible driver so that driving behavior and intent cannot be used against you, at the same time providing video evidence against any mishaps due to outside negligence. As far as I am concerned, cabin dashcams are not useful for personal vehicles, maybe for commercial vehicles, but front and rear dashcams are must on Indian roads

I agree with you completely. Most dashcams sold today save their video logs on the memory card and not in cloud storage. So I don't understand how the data is compromised. Regarding wiring, it can be installed neatly even without any professionals help. I installed it myself and there are no rattles. There are plenty of DIY YT videos to help install these dashcams. Nowadays companies sell with OBD2 port connections to keep the USB free. Whichever the case, it will never mess with the warranty or the battery.

@@Lee.S Cool. Thanks for your insight. I have used OBD diagnostics device and it used to drain my car's battery. So, I decided to use it only when I see the check engine light. About the data theft, it remains on the camera SD card. But there's nothing stopping the company from discretely moving a few files and uploading them to their servers. At least the ones we transfer from the card to the device are obviously more susceptible to data theft. Even if they intend to use the data for positive purposes, the risk of hack remains a threat. May be i'm just way too paranoid. But i'll rather be safe than sorry.

@maheshy1 dashcam technology is very simple and effective. I've been using dashcams for more than 5 years and never faced any problems. I installed by myself all my dashcams. The newer ones have become more easier to install with OBD2 connections (keeping the USB free) and local WiFi connectivity for easy access to the memory card records. The app interface is basically to access the records and some additional features. All features can be switched on or off once connected. And this works only through the dashcam's WiFi (no internet, no sim). The other way is to remove the sd card directly from the dashcam and upload it to your laptop directly (no phone interface needed). But you won't be having your laptop all the time. You are paranoid but if it is true, I would be worried more about my personal data in my phone rather than my dashcam records.

Points are well explained. I feel the use of dashcam is a must, provided we are controlling the actual usage when time comes. For example, I had a dashcam footage that helped to claim insurance without any hassle. But I went for dashcam manufacturers/apps that do not have auto cloud upload type of options. My front dashcam is also hardwired to battery to provide sentry mode for a couple of days. If battery voltage protection setting is there, it is fine to use that feature. Coming to the wiring part, i went for two separate dashcams. Front is hardwired, rear is connected to a 12V socket in the boot. But I agree this setup will vary greatly from car to car.

imagine if a truck hits a car on a highway and the passengers pass away on the spot, then there is very less chance of catching the culprit without dashcam recordings. So i would say that it can also bring justice for the deceased. Also we should start believing that privacy is a myth :)

At least I won't serve my personal life to governments and corporations on a platter. I choose to live with the hope that we can do something about the privacy thing. And raise awareness about it. Even if it's a meaningless effort, it'll at least arrest the accelerating slide down the slippery slope.

Legal implications wala point is just eye opening. Imagine the spectrum of risk we get ourselves into with a dash cam. A very detailed perspective which no one has touched as of now. Your videos are keeping me hooked onto the edge of the seat. Excellent work... Keep it up 👌

Some of the negatives of dashcam (in this video) doesnt make any sense and it is a perspective of only few people. 1. Basic Dashcams save the video on the memory card and is overwritten continuously (loop). If there is wifi connectivity option, you can download the necessary video to your phone directly for safe keeping. Thats all!! It is not connected to the network or saved in any cloud or online. We allow most permissions in our phones for all apps and these are basic permissions. I don't understand what is the security breach in this basic dashcam setup. There is no cloud storage or login to any server. Most dashcams sold in india have only these features (even with gps). Those dashcams which have features like live tracking, geo-fencing, emergency calls, etc, are costly devices upwards of 25k or more and come with an inbuilt sim for data connectivity. These high end dashcams are widely used in the other countries. 2. Dashcams simply means a video recorder installed in the front windscreen or dashboard. The idea is not to take video recording of the entire car surroundings. When you install cctv at your house, do you install cameras in all angles, every corner, every room?? Most of the accidents or offences can be captured in front of us because that is the direction in which you are driving. If you feel vulnerable, then installing 360° cameras makes some sense (like if you park more regularly in public spots). Rear camera helps to record incidents of those rear ending you in traffic situations. 3. Today, most dashcams sold comes with the option of a hardware kit which helps to record when the car is kept in parking. Parking monitoring option is very useful and it has helped me as well. If you use your car regularly, there is nothing to worry about car battery drain if you use the hardware kit. The hardware kit is connected directly to the car electrical system but it ensures that it doesnt drain car battery beyond 30-40%. 4. One thing most common in cities is traffic police issuing challans wrongly. The reason i bought a dashcam was because i was given a challan wrongly for red light jumping which i didnt. Many won't be able to defend without any proof. Challans for speeding can be verified with dashcam videos and gps logs. 5. In some countries, privacy laws are in place and dashcam videos are not meant to be posted on social media platforms. But again roads are public places and dashcams are not meant for spying on someone else. Dashcams have very specific purpose and if we stick to it, it will benefit anybody.

Just to add another useful fact is that the microphone, gps logs, parking monitoring can be switched off according to our requirements as and when necessary.

Privacy is a myth if you have ever created an email ID and owned a smartphone in your lifetime. Hence we now have privacy laws in our country. Be safe and be prudent in giving your information in the public domain as it is impossible to not share your personal information.

Another con is, you can't use the record feature in buildings or premises where using cameras is prohibited, especially in high security areas that can compromise National security and will land you in trouble.

Sometimes dashcams (3rd party) might cause void of warranty. I heard a case of a car catching fire due to dashcam. In these cases, warranty/insurance might be void if you used 3rd party dashcam

that's probably just manufacturer and insurance saving themselves from a warranty/insurance claim. i've heard dealers saying that manufacturer won't give you warranty coverage if you get seatcovers from an unauthorized dealer. mind you, i heard this some 4-5 years ago and this was about a car without thorax airbags. it's profits-over-people for them all the way.

Another con could be alongwith battery consumption of car, when we use hardwiring then it can be risky and the service centre officials firstly scare us, discourage us to use any outside accessories and then scare us on warranty issue as they sell extended one as part of package. I'm grateful that you took the time to comment and express your concerns. since there's no new information to add, here's a copy of a reply to similar issue from another viewer: perhaps you didn't hear about people getting beaten up and put in jail during covid for not having arogya setu app. imagine justifying to a cop that you don't have a smartphone. They only started taking it easy after the courts intervened and made it clear that the app is optional. If they really cared about the safety, they could have asked google and apple to do it. But they wanted unfiltered access to our data, which google and apple clearly weren't willing to share. so, sharing info with google isn't the same as sharing it with the entire world. I should also mention that the google app on my phone doesn't even have mic access. I'm sure if they wanted to access my mic, they could. But i do what i can. I truly fantasize about living off grid on a farm growing my own fresh and organic produce. I wish i could stop using the smartphone. I use it out of necessity more than convenience.

Bro don't be an idiot. Buy the dashcam. The day you get into an accident with a two wheeler, the mob will beat you up first even if it was not your fault because bigger vehicle is always assumed to be guilty. Even if mob does nothing, family of two wheeler guy will file FIR against you if the biker dies. Then you will have no evidence to prove your innocence. In 90% of cases, judge will sympathize and side with the poor victim if no counter evidence is provided. Dashcam is like an insurance policy. You may never need it but when you do, you will wish you had it.

that's a good idea. I'll check them out. the manual for 70mai dashcam used in this video says that heating up is normal operation. so don't worry. I don't know how hot the woodman gets.

Comet has a USB port under its IRVM for the dash cam ! 7:21 seems like you aren't using it! Maybe a little less wiring hassle :)

Yup. Sharp vision. Very few people even know that it's there. I didn't have a tiny usb cable. all dashcams come with a super long cable. connecting that cable with the mirror wouldn't have helped with clearing the clutter. The easy wiring solution is the only reason i even volunteered to review dashcams. We have a few lying around and they're eating dust in a corner. If I find one that meets most of my requirements (cost, value, features, privacy), I may consider installing one in the Comet. Just the front cam.

@@maheshy1 Maybe those short usb cables that come with TWS Earphones can help. A friend of mine has coiled up his extra usb cable and tied it with a zip tie. Not neat, but very efficient! Also, I completely agree with you on the cost, value, feature and privacy part!

Only complaint i have about your channel is the term you use: humsre internal data ke according yeh zyaada value offer karta hain... You are not considering the value proposition correctly because the engine, structural integrity and mechanical components plus engineering aspects need to have higher weightage than features offered by the Korean manufacturers... At the same time the after sales service centre experience of Indian brands.. Psrts availablity of honda and German cars should all be considered well to provide a conclusion

Dont get confused get it for your own safety....if you drive safely then it is important just imagine if something happens where you are not at all at fault and public and police are trying to harass you where you are alone in a car then there will be no one to save you....talking about data safety the cam is not taking your vid...and face of people are not extremely clearly visible while car in motion and if you want you may not keep your dashcam connected to app

​@@Spartan..... thanks mate. i don't mind abusive language as long as the person hurling them has sound logic. i can filter through much harsher words but when the argument lack depth, that's when i know it's non-sense. I was hoping to learn from their experiences and knowledge. Sadly, i got nothing.

It surely has dropped the mileage for me by 1-2 kmpl in city driving.

mileage should not go down with dashcam even if it's hardwired. it must be something else. check tyre pressure or alignment.

Ohh okay. Yesterday I unplugged the dashcam and felt the mileage improved by 1-2 kmpl. Anyway I will keep monitoring it along with your input.

@@nitsnik Try this: tank up everytime and reset the trip meter. note the trip reading when the low fuel warning comes up. when you do this a few times, you'll know the baseline range you should get from a normal tank full to low fuel warning. if your range fluctuates significantly, then something is wrong. otherwise, the mielage also fluctuates because of weather, load, driving style, driving conditions, tyre pressure, alignment.

These guys are paranoid af. Nobody gives a fuck about the footage. If you're really concerned about data, your should stop using smartphones and laptops where you give all permissions to the OEM and you need knew what data they're accessing to. Dashcam overwhelms pros over cons.

Thanks for sharing your concerns. perhaps you didn't hear about people getting beaten up and put in jail during covid for not having arogya setu app. imagine justifying to a cop that you don't have a smartphone. They only started taking it easy after the courts intervened and made it clear that the app is optional. If they really cared about the safety, they could have asked google and apple to do it. But they wanted unfiltered access to our data, which google and apple clearly weren't willing to share. so, sharing info with google isn't the same as sharing it with the entire world. I should also mention that the google app on my phone doesn't even have mic access. I'm sure if they wanted to access my mic, they could. But i do what i can. I truly fantasize about living off grid on a farm growing my own fresh and organic produce. I wish i could stop using the smartphone. I use it out of necessity more than convenience.

Everything comes with a calculated risk.... Even if you drive without Dashcam that is also a calculated risk.... Its same like Avode taking Insurance, thinking i may or may not get insurance claim or company may reject insurance giving some reason ? With respect to Data Privacy - Our Mobile is 100% times more vulanrable than a simple dashcam, so dont you take Mobile ??? This was NOT A USEFULL OR KNOWLEDAGABLE VIDEO

indeed, insurance costs more than repairs for people who drive safe. I have 3 2 wheelers and 3 cars. I have had zero dep on all my cars and 1 of my motorcycles. So far, I have only taken claim once on motorcycle and once on car. My total combined claim amount in last 10 years is less than 1 year insurance cost of just my diesel car. I would have had more money if I had just put all that amount in FD every year. And if I had invested, then a lot more. I strongly encourage you to read the book Nudge (2008). There's a chapter on warranty and insurance. That should work as a counter argument from my side. about smartphone, I agree. it's more dangerous. that's why I limit my usage and i'm extremely picky about selecting what apps I install and what i don't That's why I only buy Motorola with clean Android build instead of other brands, which add crazy amount of spammy/scammy apps. Rest, it has become nearly impossible to live without a phone. in fact, the government won't give a person a pan/adhar withotu a phone number. they expect you to have a phone number even to open an account. you can't get a new gas connection. driving license. and many other conveniences. Because, the governnent is also interested in this big data game. they don't know what to do with it yet. but if they collect it now, they can figure it out later. Ideally, i'd like to keep my personal life completely off grid somewhere in the farm lands and do enough farming to sustain myself and my nuclear family. But i'm sure that the government will still knock on my door and ask my to prove that it's my land with an OTP.

I think this video doesnot add much value. Please ALWAYS encourage people to have security.

Bakwas Video hai ye. Totally illogical cons bataye hai isme. India ke bahar har developed country main dashcam aata hai car mai inbuilt. Data leak, privacy ki itni chinta hai to phir ghar par baitho aur apne phone laptop sab kabade main de do, kyunki sadak par, malls main yaha tak ki tumhari building main bhi CCTV to lage hi hai.

Chacha ganje ho gaye par unhe ye nahi pata ki court or kanun paise se chalta hai..baba ke samvidhan se nahi...or ghar ke bahar bhi chacha ko privacy chahiye or hanky panky bhi..chacha kab bade ho paoge aap
