One of the selling points of these Amps was being able to Hide the Wiring for a "Clean" Install. Especially in cars with rear deck lids, you could have the Amp on display and no wires showing through the rear window. That is why Kicker let the installer cut out that part of the cover for the wire install.

@@tenacious5735 I was 16 in 1996, and it was a dream to own this stuff. Worked forever at minimum wage to buy anything. And then, you make dumbass teenager mistakes. Like when I finally bought a 300 watt class d MTX amp, and then 6 months later allowed it to get flooded with water 😢. At least you young guys can buy better beat than we had. Also, we burned up batteries and alternators quite easily. Everything ran hot in those days. The average car had a 60 amp alternator or so. We always ended up abusing the cars electrical system because of it. Rough times lol

The "breakout plate" was an option so you could have the wires hidden by going out the bottom of the amp, which was in the amp cut out template. If you didnt want them to be completely hidden you could break off the breakout plate and have the wires come out through the front instead.

I know Dereck's feeling of joy getting this amp. I just scored 2 USA made JBL GTX 15" subs circa 1995 from eBay. Were listed as mint condition. In reality they were brand freaking new, never been mounted, in original boxes with the manuals! Back in the day these subs were the bomb. I had a set in the high school days and needed them again... The section that can be broken out is left in if you wanted to back wire the amp so you don’t see the wires 👍🏻. Kind of like my 90’s Fosgate amps, you had to back wire the amp to put on the end covers so you’d have a clean looking install. One of my good friends owns Custom Enclosures Car Audio in Bristol VA and back in the days I’ve seen quite a few installed by him that way. Beautiful amp in perfect condition and it works to boot!

I had a Sansui, 2 channel 75 watt RMS car amplifier from the late 80’s/early 90’s. All it had was one sensitivity adjustment, power in and RCA plugs. A simple no frills plug and play amplifier. I wish I had that amplifier today. Great Old School amplifier that kicked ass. We didn’t realize how great some of the old school car stereo products were from Japan until manufacturers first started making lower quality products made in China. I wish I still had my old Nakamichi head unit made in Japan, along with my old school Boston Acoustics 6 X 9 speakers. Today I have all JLAUDIO that is dated. Older. JLAUDIO Slash series A/B amplifier’s, 4 channel and 5 channel with JLAUDIO speakers and sub. I am keeping those.

Tri-way crossover, I remember reading about those, even understood/understand how they worked, but your video is the first time I have ever actually seen one. I think I understand why Kicker made it to where you have to break out that plastic on the cover. If you look at the install template, there is a section for "Cut Along dotted lines for hidden wire mounting" I suspect you could bring the wires in from the bottom and just leave the plastic piece there for a super clean look! That would have been super slick!

200si is the one I let get away! I was about 18 and bought one of these (so it was a 5-6 year old amp) from a friend for $200- I was 'using it' and basically the bass made a couch fart sound prior to the main fuse popping and smelling the magic smoke. I used it for maybe 1 year. Sent it to Kicker for repair, they wanted $200 plus return shipping to fix an amp I spent $200 on, so it I let it stay with Kicker. In my case, the vehicle didn't have enough alternator output to keep up with that amp, and the amp in turn tried to pull more current to sustain the load. This created a real hot spot right at the voltage input and return, so hot it caused the plastic and 8 gauge wire jacket to melt right at that input on the amp. Who knows, it could have been an insufficient ground as well. Gotta love those first systems.

I thought so to and it IS an A/D/S made for Kicker I'm guessing, not sure why big D didn't say anything, I'm about to ask him. Go to .41 in the video where he is showing the Ad in the 94 directory at the bottom of the page you see A/D/S. I as well had a P80, P120, and a PQ15.....

I remember back in the early 00s I traded my jacked up 1994 Eddie Bauer Explorer on 33x12.50s for a 1992 Acura Integra, a set of 17" chrome wheels (which were REALLY cheesy), a Soundstream Rubicon 4 channel 1000w amp, and four Kicker Solobaric 10s. I remember the motors on the subs said Stillwater Designs on them. They were definitely old, but my cousin was owed a favor by a local stereo shop and they built me a custom fit box for the hatch area. Those subs sounded SO good and hit fairly hard. I remember that I had a Sony (the ONLY car stereos that I would buy back then) Xplod tape deck with a Sony 10-disc CD changer. I even had an old Sony unpowered tape deck with a motorized face that folded down to expose the tape deck and I had a Sony 4 channel amp that went with it. I also had an old red anodized US Amps 125x4 that was .25 ohm stable with a plexiglass bottom and about 4 feet long. When I was in high school I had an 89 Chevy Beretta GT with two Image Dynamic amps and two Image Dynamic 15s and people at my school said that it sounded like thunder. I shattered my rear windshield in front of the school one day while I was leaving the parking lot and I was suspended for 3 days because of it.

I also loved the tape deck and cd changer setup. Mostly because tape decks were not prime targets for theft. It was awesome. Listen to anything, make mix tapes and in a beater car, nobody knew you were packing

I had one of those style crossovers made by Cerwin Vega. It was the original way to hookup 2 satélites and 2 subs. I made 2 sub cabinets same color and width as a pair of Bose 301 and converted them into lar power handling big bass speakers.

I bought the model down from this one. 160si or 120si. I cant remember. I saved all my money from working minimum wage. It was the first part of my system I bought. It ended up blowing. I contacted kicker and they offered me the current model up from it for just a bit more money. Think it was the SS line. It was an amazing amp.

My first nice amp would have been a 500si, but my dad sent it back not realizing it was mine as I had it under the business name 😞 that being said I called up Speed & Sound and explained, but also decided to go with my other pick instead which they were ok with. A Hifonics gen x Zues. Glad I ended up with Hifonics gen x amps after all 👍 Yet still ran Kicker comp 15's and later 18's which were beast in the mid 90's

The power & protect light extenders are ,east to be seen from the top of them. They’re made from plexi & just work like an extension to the top of the amp cover. With the cover on you will only see the tips of those extender rods from the top of the amp & wire cover. Killer new amp Brotien!!!

This is a testament to the quality components Kicker used back then. Cheap caps would have probably failed by now. You should do a custom retro install in your vehicle. Would probably look dope. And sound even better.
