Yep, prices got run-up horribly in 2020-22, based on all sorts of excuses. I seriously struggle to believe what we were told about “cannot get the chips”. Are we expected to believe that a multi trillion dollar a year business that automotive is allowed the entire world’s suppliers of specialist chips to get to just two plants? So a fire at one plant prevented supply of new cars for months? I for one do not believe that. Like numerous other, weird goings on in the last four years, that’s got “done intentionally” written all over it. There was a focussed effort to remove a lot of certain categories of vehicles from nation-level supply, specifically “white van man” vehicles. There was a time when you literally couldn’t buy a new or a late letter vehicle for business. They were either not available or they were £5k-£10k over. If you’re the owner of a business critical van and couldn’t make do with an SUV, it was squeaky bum time. I know of several people who sold their van and bought a bit older luxury SUV and pocketed some cash. Others went way deeper into financed debt to remain mobile and earning, and almost two years later, they’re still smarting from the cost. Might be wrong, but this all felt engineered. Never known anything like it. Even new motorcycles couldn’t be had, for the same almost unbelievable reason: Taiwanese chip plant unable to hit the numbers. The world’s manufacturers of mobile & smart devices, not a bother. Churning out what are effectively surveillance devices at a rate of knots. I’ve become cynical in my old age. I don’t believe anything I’m told by officialdom any longer. If they say X, I’m looking at the reality being not X.

One of the main issues is maintenance. Just keeping it road worth is a job in itself. They days of DIY are long gone and you need to plug in a computer.

An idea for a future video, could you do a video on how a regular person goes about buying a car at auction covering both the cheap end and higher end?

BOOK Price has been over inflated since COVID times.... if for example a BRAND NEW Fiat 500 is £12-£13k, then £5k when 10 years old is simply not right... and will correct.

From what I've seen prices on certain models are still insane. As for some of the auctions fee's they're horrendous!

Noticed car prices for dealers near me dropping rapidly. Been keeping track the past couple of months and some dealers are chopping off £100-£150 every week so far in December. Also noticed some dealers who used to deal in the more premium cars between 20-30 grand are now selling much more stock around 8-15 grand. As a consumer I hope this continues.

Noticed the same , price reductions and also deposit contributions. Starting to become a bit more affordable even with the high interest rates. I’ve seen cars around 20k (my max budget) with 4k knocked off , makes you wonder how much they were making had they got full price.

Sold our 2010 BMW X5 in October privately via auto trader, am so glad we did before the market crashed! Seems to be very little demand for the big 4x4’s at the moment unless very cheap

Don’t touch the Fiat 500 convertible. I bought an Abarth 500 convertible for my missus, the next day the roof broke. Turns out it’s a common problem with bad clips. The dealer was great and tried to fix it and Fiat wanted £6000 for a new kit or £7000 for a complete new roof. Stay away from them!

That was brilliant, thank you for taking us along for the ride. Deal of the day for me, that ultra cheap Saab and the Porsche with the gearbox issue ( probably only needed a flush and fresh fluid and a filter)

That 65 plate Astra for £3k was the bargain of the day!

Some good buys there (if sold for their prov price), I liked the X1 for its money usually a quick filter change fixes boxsters, depends on issue obviously

Old analogue dashboards last for donkeys years and yet some of these modern digital dashes are already having some gremlins.

nice one Lee. you've given us a good full length again mate. I'm keen to see the C1 impulse buy apraisal video, does it have any unforeseen issues or was it a steal? quite a few low mileage motors in there. good call about the 1.2 petrol engine in the Aygo/108/C1 - noted.

2nd hand car prices are seeing a long overdue correction. Those selling in 2024 will need to be much more realistic or they will be stuck with a vehicle they can’t sell..

That ‘splitter’ device is actually a bonnet/stone guard to protect the bonnet, very common on cars here in Australia.Always leave them on, they can save the bonnet from a lot of stones being thrown up from cars in front.👍👍🇦🇺🇦🇺🇦🇺🇦🇺🦘🦘🦘🦘

I'm not in construction, or cars, and my business is always quiet in december. This year, however, november was just about dead, december completely dead, and I don't suppose business will pick up in january. Many people are skint, plain and simple.

Will be interesting to see how the big supermarkets fare as prices fall. All that volume each falling even a few £100 hits asset value will running cost continue to rise. My local Available car is now a big motoring world. interesting times ahead.

another good video.. I've always thought an automatic transmission, petrol and between 1.6 - 2.0 litre size engines are perfect and always in white especially in a warm country. Today though, if buying new, I would be only looking at electric. But, if buying second hand petrol offers a good buy. Hybrid is ok if you are are sure of the model.

Not seeing these reduced prices being reflected to consumers. Several cars I would have paid more than what they were sold for, rather than the rip off prices still being charged to consumers.

One of my long term car customers broke down on his motor ability scooter, had to go out and recover him, friendly local garage we are.

The way i look at it is cars are at these auctions for a reason, they have some sort of problem whether that be obvious or not so obvious, it wouldnt be there if it was good enough to be sold at retail

Back emd of the year prices are quiet people not wanting to have too much stock at their financial year end and January is a rough month

People have other things to spend their money on at Christmas. I hoping to bag myself a old jag at auction in January when a lot of people are skint ! 👍🤗

agree in effect they are helping bring prices down as vendors will have to sell stock at the auctions as they back up with vehicles

The Porsche boxer s was an easy fix....its the bakerlite piece in the tiptronic that swells when hot. Replacement/upgrade is not expensive, its getting it out is the costly part. However, does seem that the staple stock is going up & the general public don't want to buy executive anymore. Great content Lee & thank you for sharing. Have a great Xmas.

@carukchannel have a look at salvage rebuilds uk KZread channel, they did one 4 months ago,same issue. Inhibitor/postion switch on the side of the automatic transmission...gives it an incorrect reading.

Hi, love watching your videos. Very informative regarding buying cars at auctions. How much are the fees to be add onto the selling price.

I sit here watching this and seeing some of those prices thinking that I wished I had a pot of money.

Overpriced so it was well due to drop . .The book prices are out of touch with reality

scooter yes they can be road legal but no laws saying you must have number plate but option available if you want too. mums got one and i know few others who have one and not legal requirement for a plate 14:55

The 20 plate duster looked like it could have been driven straight into a showroom, have a £12995 on it and make £2k for very little work.

Scratch on bavk end of that mini looks like a scetched in of a wather p1 9mm from days gone by.

Christmas, economy, election on the books, covid adjustments etc. reckon it’ll be an interesting few months on the car market. If you’ve got the cash and are looking for a late high spec big motor you could get a bargain….

would of been a bit of a long title that one 😁 but yes prices are starting to return towards pre Covid levels

The dealers are realised that the customers are now getting their revenge against the ones who profited from them, sweet!!

That Toyota Auris Hybrid could as you said,"It will outlive us all" that's why it fetched strong money for an old car ,what's not to like about it a strong VVTi 1.8 Petrol engine coupled to a Japanese bullet proof Automatic gearbox, throw in that Hybrid set up giving great MPG, and low road tax [ ULEZ compliant] could have been bought as a little runaround for the Great London area.

It looks like the mid sized SUV market has saturated and the prices are tumbling.. Will see if this continues into the New Year

Have you ever considered what the excess mortality being +15% higher than normal is going to do to supply and demand for things like cars and homes? Things are only going to get cheaper (apart from food and fuel)

Those mobility scooters are all in the wrong hands, they are lethal , I almost got poleaxed a few weeks ago whilst out on my postal delivery round, some 87 year old lunatic came flying along the pavement at Mach2. They should be banned.

I've just finished a tipless shift on Christmas Eve at Domino's and at least Lee up loaded something to perk me up .Never in doubt hope santer comes past yours x
