Capturing Alexi Laiho's Guitar Tone - Marshall DSL20H & Torpedo Captor X

Музыка

Always loved Alexi's playing and riffs, really difficult fingering and complex to play. I've been a fan for many years and he's death is a tragedy. I really am sorry to hear and my best regards to his closest and loved ones.
The recordings were captured using Two Notes Torpedo Captor X, a really cool piece of gear that allows you to record and enjoy your tube amplifier without bothering anyone. It simulates a mic'd cabinet with power soak attenuation so there's no need to run a cabinet while playing.
Find out more at www.two-notes.com/en/torpedo-...
Anyone with the torpedo you can download my 6 fav presets here

My favourite being the Marshall V30 close mic cab

    Awesome sound. Not enough people chasing the Alexi tone which is honestly one of the greatest guitar sounds out there. I’ve never cared for screaming vocals but he was a hell of a player and one of my favorites. Such a melodic player with amazing phrasing and tone.

    @@Sigmachadofficial Everyone that plays guitar, has their “Everest Tone” I call it. The ultimate tone they dream of achieving. It’s usually what inspired you in your youth to play guitar in the first place. For me, it’s that late 80s Hetfield. It’s super difficult to nail, I have come very close using Fractal products. Before that I tried several real Mesa Boogie tube amps. You’re either a Boogie guy at heart, or a Marshall guy. Sounds like you are a Marshall guy. More specifically a PLEXI guy. My dad is too. That EVH brown sound is a dimed out plexi. Totally different beast than the DSL. If your journey is toward that tone, youd want to go for the plexi with an attenuator/variac just like Eddie used! What amp/gear do you own that you’ve been using on your journey for the tone? Are you a tube guy? Digital sims? Take care

  • @dzonyyya

    @dzonyyya

    Жыл бұрын

    @@niallcampbell The thing with his pickup is not so much about the pickup itself, but the built-in preamp circuit in the guitar. It acts as an overdrive in front of the amp. What you want to do is focus on boosting your output and initial signal before it reaches the amp. For the amp, use the heaviest channel you have, with the least amount of gain from the amp as possible. You basically want to engage the power amp/tubes and clipping, and hit it with the boosted guitar signal, but keep the amp gain low to avoid fuzzy saturation. Of course, on this setup, you have to attack harder and snappier with your picking hand, and a bit closer to the bridge, to get every note to sing out nicely. That's how you get that ballzy, percussive but articulate/audible notes for your leads.

    He used always bass almost on full. Lol. He used chorus effect to push midds out more. You can look it up now.

    I have a question lamchopper, I have the dsl20hr and also a mxr analog chorus which is supposedly the same as the black label chorus. In my fx loop there is a horrible very noticeable tone suck. When i place in front of amp, it does not do this. Have you noticed this with your setup?

    Chorus pedals are notorious tone suckers. I always place mine furthest from the guitar in the chain just before the noise gate. I prefer mine through the fx loop but I’m not really a big fan of them at all.

    Would love to see you do Alice in Hell by Annihilator! I got the tone down pretty good but would love to hear it on a dsl. The original was just a boss sd-1 boosting a jcm800.
