Capture, who's looking after the children? | FT Film Standpoint
An FT drama starring Jodie Whittaker (Dr Who), Paul Ready (Motherland), Shaniqua Okwok (It's a Sin), looks at online harm, regulation and responsibility. The search for their missing son leads a mother and father to a tech company, and a digital gatekeeper who seems to have all the answers.

WAKE UP NEW JODIE WHITTAKER CONTENT DROPPED 😭
It's like if Black Mirror made an after school special.
Anyone else get Doctor Who vibes at 4:30?

If the Bells of St John was a 13th Doctor episode:
4:30-4:52 the Doctor slipping through
I think Jodie Whittaker is doing the right keeping off Social Media so that nobody can bother her or her family.

This is a heavy topic and this short film is intense. I can’t imagine having kids in this digital age. Jodie is brilliant in this, as she is in everything.
I am so glad that this issue has come to light and been explained in this way. My biggest fear about becoming a parent is the internet and the effect it will have on my child. I already know the effect it has on me and so many other people. It is scary how much kids know these days and it’s even scarier knowing that there are people who exploit that. Thank you to the team that has created this.
This is a really good movie, Jodie's presence just makes it better 😁

Her doctor slipped a bit
It's so strange seeing her play normal roles again after seeing her fly a time travelling spaceship, fighting robots and facing her mysterious past. Miss her already. I didn't really like her era but Jodie herself was a gem. She brought so much joy and energy to the role (just like her predecessors). I sincerely hope that she somehow by some miracle appears in the 60th (along with other doctors!).

Her role as orla from the series TIME was incredible but very heart breaking 💔
Just wanted to say thanks for this- initially thought (although obviously well crafted) it was a bit ‘on the nose’, but it’s already provoked some really good conversations, and I’m sure it’ll continue to. This is great journalism imo, and well worth whatever FT are shelling out for it.
Shaniqua Okwok is hilarious in this. She plays the self-assured smugness of the tech person brilliantly haha
Wake up, open your eyes! Your child is right in front of you but you've been so busy ignoring him you can no longer see him!
she is so thirteen coded ...
Pouring water on a keyboard doesn’t shut down the internet 😂
This is incredibly weird but I'll take jodie content
This is a wake up call
I never expected to see Jodie Whittaker on a FT Film
12:44 Doctor moment right there. Imagine if that bottle of water was her sonic screwdriver instead.
Really thought-provoking 🙌
Absolutely spot on!
Thank you so much.
It's not the platform that's the problem, it's the parents. But also to keep in mind, people working at social media companies don't let their kids use social medias

Is that like people working in medical refused to take the vaccine ? Hmmm there may be something here… P.S. In this case it’s the platform AND the parents. A perfect storm
This is too true.
JODIEEEEEE 😍
Great drama. We will definitely be encouraging parents who attend our Positive Social sessions to watch this. These lines alone make it worth watching: Internet woman: "The internet is safe - it's built by engineers. And do you know what else was built by engineers? Bridges. And do you worry about bridge safety?" Parent: "I don't leave my child unattended on bridges." Internet woman: "And you don't need to leave them unattended online either but you do. Even though, deep down you know the internet is full of misinformation, misogyny, racism, fascism, pro-anorexia, pro-self harm, anti-truth, anti-nuance, anti-empathy toxic propaganda, or as we like to call it...engaging content."
Play snakes and ladders on the board in a living room with your children like we used to😊
I don't know where I am !
This is her Final .. Final.. Final warning
This was amazing
My Doctor!😢 I love you Jodie Whittaker!😄 You are the best Doctor!😊 Thank you Doctor!😊
VERY GOOD
If you didn't get the g-word reference, Facebook is accused of boosting genocidal rhetoric in Burma/Myanmar (leading to mass murder and displacement of the Rohingya) because those posts generated the most ad revenue.
Good movie!!!!
Simple never sign without knowing what you're signing for
This is real sci-fi.
Oh cool! This is really good and very bit like Broadchurch but a bit darker will there be anymore?

This is challenging.
This video is very scary. 👀😳😳😳😳
If parents actually ❤ their children, they would keep them away from any type of social media! Stop being Lazy parent! Protect your children!
Brilliant. But I wrote to my MP Emily about this two years ago and she thought I was mad. Thanks for the first half of the film. The second half ignores what Fuller S wrote about gnosticism and the new feudalism of AI as in machine intelligence, as in naive narratives using technology rather than socialised shared understanding where the controllers can plead fragility.
Far too many of us accept permissions on apps without reading what it is we are agreeing to; camera access, contacts, photos, files. If our children never see us reading before accepting and even declining in some instances, why would they? We have a generation of Cookie Monsters and that's just scratching the surface.
The systems aren't the problem. How people use and exploit the system, that's the problem.
I’m sorry but when I create an account for Social Media when it asks for my birthday I put the month and day but I put a different year instead of the actual year I was born.
Give your kids a good moral center, teach them to measure information (in all its many forms and complexities) in the round, against their own moral code and the most persuasive imperical evidence they can find. Carefully tutor them that we live in a post-ethics society that has become entirely corrupted by self-enrichment; to be cynical but not embittered or compromised. Instruct them of their democratic duty not to indifferently defer to authority and patiently explain that our politicians, our corporations, our stakeholder class and the arbiters of the media space are grasping, manipulative, censorious, insincere and without scruple, and that they must cling on in good faith, because they've been delivered at the edge of the yawning precipice of something truly awful. Sleep tight, children everywhere.
Deeper picture than I initially imagined. I understand your point, however people get exposed to danger everywhere, online or offline, should we ban staircases too?

Don't put computer in kids bedroom or let kids take any device to their room with the door shut! No1 puts their kids to sleep on a staircase do they? Kids learn to climb stairs & most will have safety railing!
Nothing new. I remember buying "Parade" magazine when I was, I suppose 13 - and more recently the New Zealand Moslem murder atrocity was streamed online and was available to watch for months afterwards. It's not clear if such content can't be taken down or is kept available to see who watches it - but then what example does the American military or what was Blackwater give ? There's certainly no moral compass emanating from our politicians.
What’s the name of this movie?
Also the child is more likely to be on a mobile device than a laptop
protection & dozen of eggs.
This kind of guidance should be available for all parents to view not just subscribers of the FT - if it is a subject worthy of making a video about then why not all the masses to be able to view it - incredibly disappointing from the FT

@@neptune04 I think you have to think what an educational authority thinks about the fact. Not just any authority, the highest authority. I'm not sure, I hope the internet changes everything for the best. Only based on FT information. A thorough understanding of psychology allows insight into mental health dysfunctions. A healthy human being is kind. I just want kids to grow up to be their best. I wish bodily health, good relationships, happiness. It would be more like 'don't play with fire' or 'flush the toilet after going to the toilet', I don't believe in punishment and prohibition, but the world has been moving towards domination and radicalism against new ideas. So the adequacy of my idea is invalid. I'm interested in some young people using it to serve as an example, I don't want to put them down, it would be a personal fame for being internet users. Negative emphasis will be given to your form of social interaction. Simply put, the only one accepted for new ideas, the internet would not be for children. Children need some thinking time. A silence, the rest. In a high level concept the best human being on earth uses the time to help his community with the internet instead. This must be taught to children. It is an adaptation, a sequence of exercises that leads to natural actions. Rude responses are not the worst thing to be found in human beings, inattention is. Evil people want our young people to be inattentive to the surrounding community. As soon as they are kind, they have to pay attention to their surroundings.
