    Fun fact about measuring distance using the latitudes, the reason you can't do it with the longitudes is because the distance varies. As you get closer to the poles, the longitudes have to converge, and as you get closer to the equator they diverge. Latitudes are constantly spaced out with 60 nm between each degree ;)

    Im not an absolute ace or wanna pat my own back here but this seems so simple I have a hard time realising that some people may not know how to do this stuff. And I am not a big navigator or anything. Actually got my first chart 2 days ago(and didnt have a chance yet to look at it properly). But I think you explained it quite well without trailing of unnecessarily, which I find highly distracting and usually I look for a different video then. Looking forward to go to more complicated topics now :)

    I am currently in a captains course now and was kinda overwhelmed by chart plotting you broke it down here for me and reassured I knew the basics. You're a great teacher and tutor and I'm sure you don't need reassurance of that but I'm grateful for your reassurance that this is an obtainable goal although intimidating. Thanks for the help man! :)

    I appreciate the feedback. Just finished remaking all of the Rules of the Road videos and these chart navigation videos are next over the following couple of months. Thinking about using a camera directly overhead with the field of view covering just the area in which the problem is done. Or using a camera person like the Distance and Initial Course Videos.

    Why do these charts say not to be used for navigation?

  • @uscaptainstraining

    @uscaptainstraining

    They are an older version that is used for the USCG exams. So they do not have all of the the most recent updates that include hazards to navigation or the most recent depth soundings.
