Whoa! A tripod for the camera might be nice! Too many turns on the capstan, and PLEASE put that saw on the ground to start it! Drop starts are an invitation to an eventual injury.

I don't like to mess around much with videos, which is why I don't set up a tripod. Not sure what you mean by too many turns on the capstan? And I did not drop start my chainsaw. The rear handle was tucked into my inner thigh. You will see that this method is even in a stihl chainsaw manual: www.stihlusa.com/WebContent/CMSFileLibrary/InstructionManuals/STIHL-MS-066-Owners-Instruction-Manual.pdf I got my first chainsaw when I was 10, and my Dad, who was a timber faller, taught me to start it this way. I have lived and breathed being a professional timber faller all my life, and was privileged to work with, and learn from the best timber fallers in the world, and I never once saw any of them EVER start their saw on the ground. The only people I have ever seen start a chainsaw on the ground are homeowner wood cutter types, who have no business in the professional logging world, nor do they have any business trying to tell a professional how to start their chainsaw.

Lucky that 3/8" rope didn't part on you. It was too small for the job. Good thing the toy winch stalled before it broke, or that whipping rope would have put a hurting on you. 30 years ago, I had a 1/2" line part put a 3" dent in the side of a steel Butler building when it snapped back. Imagine what that would do to flesh and bone! Fortunately my crew was where they were told to be - well away.

That line is the recommended line for that winch, so it was not too small for the job. That low stretch line has a 5600lb tensile strength, and the winch has a straight pull rating of 2,000lb.

Why not snake it with the truck in the first place?

Excellent reason. I got a trailer hitch mount with mine. I skidded a tri-axle load of logs with it from as far away as 100 yards. Great little gadget.

12v 3500 winch and a mower battery would have been easy-to-use and faster.

Poor video. Lot of "hat" showing and very little of the capstan function.
