The Hudson’s Bay Company contracted with the company Early’s of Witney who made the blankets for HBC. Early’s of Witney made the point blankets also known as the “Trapper” blankets as well, and Early’s of Witney was in business exclusively making blankets in England from 1669-2001.
I'm totally working on making a capote right now. Thanks for the footage, it has given me some ideas.
Getting one
I live in west state Colorado, its cold during winter... a coat would be perfect at the campsite with the family or the hunters..
The word “capote” or “capot” is French. Capote blanket coats were made and worn by French-Canadians, Métis, and First Nations peoples. French-Canadians called it a “habitant capote”. The Métis sash originated from and is a shared cultural garment with French-Canadians called a “ceinture fléchée”. During the fur trade era, French, Métis and First Nations cultures were very intertwined.

cool, I was totally working on the trade of Hudson's Bay wool blankets and the the trade during the time of the Red River Rebellion . The tailored blue capot was it a item for trade? In what companies catalog may it be found? What is a Red River capot? Is Capotes the plural form of Capot? Why are they blue and blanket coats are well, made from a blanket? When did HBC first ship to Fort Garry the iconic multi striped blanket? I am looking for a source document describing the color pattern . What was the manner of shipping to your Upper and Lower Fort Garry docks like? what is a factory capot?
Capote is pronounced kap-ot, like a cap and the same ot as in "hot", not kup-oat
