"Capeyuye" Odo a la Libertad ◆ Mascogo Community Documentary
Documentary on the Afro-Mexican Mascogo community, from El Nacimiento, Coahuila, Mexico.
Back in the 1840s, a number of humans designated as slaves escaped the US across the southern border, settling in the north Mexican state of Coahuila. Some of these African-descendent communities and towns, ranching pueblos, still exist today and are largely autonomous. A couple pueblos in particular have this existing song tradition, sung a-cappella, that feels like gospel in the desert.
This documentary was filmed with permission of the community and as part of a Music Mission initiative that provided support to the Mascogo people.
Realized with support from The Roddick Foundation and generous supporters of Music Mission.

Me gustan mucho estos videos y la gente de ahí especialmente las que son negros puros que se siguen conservando su raza
Espero algún día poder ir a sus cabalgatas
