As a Canadian I am all for this if it means that sovereignty remains in the hands of each individual nation to govern it's own people under their own rule of law and that all rights of ALL citizens are inalienable under the eyes of commonwealth. for this to work and I hope it works we would need to put our combined interests together, we are every day under the pressure of very real threats from foreign powers who do not have our interests in mind. I hope and do wish this becomes reality! we need our brothers and sisters close to our hearts in solidarity.

Don't pay attention to the loud minority here in Scotland crying on Twitter. The question was put to rest after we had our vote only a few years ago. Everyone agreed at the time on both sides, that the outcome would be honoured and respected for the rest of our lives who are alive today. Yikes, the UK doesn't want that. This is a group of 4 fantastic and FULLY independent sovereign countries creating closer ties on the basis of free trade, business and the movement of people. Nothing political. Independence, democracy and sovereignty of these four countries are at the very heart of the CANZUK movement.

the commonwealth still has 54 countries in it, with a combined gdp of around 13 trillion, and a population of 2.4 billion :) its not a coherent state or really all that "together" lol. the biggest one is india, i think they still kind of hate us...eep!

Scotland and Wales both have individual National anthems alongside GSTQ, no reason any of the countries would have to replace their anthem.

@Steven Moore : It leaving out other previously commonwealth countries such as India has nothing to do with them being “white” countries. Some of the countries in CANZUK are among among the most diverse in the world, but besides that, the union includes the four countries because they have the same values and similar government systems. Other nations such as India and places in Africa have become a lot more distanced from the English commonwealth in culture and government, it just would not make sense to join them. Don’t whine and play the race card when it simply doesn’t apply.

I am in favour of this alliance. I served 20 years in my Countries Military and pledged an Oath of Allegiance to Queen and County BUT I believe each Country should retain it's own Flag (in NZ a lot of people want to change ours and remove the British influence from it) and keep their own National Anthem. A new Anthem?, Flag or Seal should be designed for when members of these Countries meet officially and for correspondence with other entities. This would also help if other nations like India, South Africa and others were to join at a later date.

@@Winston.S.Churchill according to law 99 it takes 50% + 1 to gain our independence and sovereignty has often risen to over 60 percent in polls. Quebecers, if CANZUK takes place it is tiring, because there are 8 million in a set of 35 million and in CANZUK we would still be 8 million, but in a set of 120 million (approximate figure)

Ehh an independent Quebec would be dependent on CANZUK, and it’s not like Quebec can join the EU with France, although I can see why québécois wouldn’t want to join, it’s not like There’s anything similar for the French speaking world planned. And besides it’s not like it’s an English only Union, the Welsh are just as proud of their language as the québécois.

I love everything about this. We could trade more closely with countries that respect our common values like public health care and affordable education, not like America where every trade deal they’re trying to push their shitty food, private health care, private universities, and ever lower and lower taxes for the rich. I want the closest relationship possible with countries we see eye to eye to and can stand shoulder to shoulder with.

The more I research this idea of CANZUK the more sense it makes. It will have its problems, but I think the benefits vastly outweigh the downsides. However, I do not think we should have an anthem. We are separate nations.

From an Australian perspective Canzuk is a smart and timely idea. There are problems though: - Australia, Canada and New Zealand are robust democracies with strong national identities. It would not be possible to sing the English national anthem under the union flag - they have no relevance outside of the UK. - It would be difficult for like-minded nations to coalesce with the UK, which has a monarch with reserve constitutional powers. They would need to either get rid of the monarchy or retain it in a ceremonial sense only. - There is enormous diversity among Commonwealth countries. They don't actually have a shared history but have come together briefly in difficult times. A proposed coalition would need to acknowledge and deal with the differences between participating nations.

This is the royal anthem in all of the involved countries, so it’s an obvious CANZUK anthem, all the members will still have their own anthems like Scotland and Wales have their own anthems.

I think the idea of this is not to replace your national anthem. It's just an anthem that we all have in common. Basically t's a way to celebrate our similarities. It's Australia's royal anthem and it's also ours too, here in Canada. And of course it's the UK's national anthem and 1 of 2 of New Zealand's national anthems.

Let's be honest, it's not a good idea. This is not supposed to be the British Empire 2.0 and using God Save the Queen for an anthem makes it seem that way. I'm not against the Queen at all, I love having her as my Head of State and I respect her, but you're going to turn off a lot of people if you make them think they are moving backwards in time instead of forwards. And why would we have an anthem anyways since CANZUK would not be a country but merely an alliance? I can also tell you that God Save the Queen would probably not be at all popular with French-Canadians and would end up stirring up trouble for CANZUK here.
