You can hear both the roar and whistling of the wind! Unbelievable! Wouldn't be surprised if this monster gets rated EF4 or EF5.

Folks, you can't say that a tornado was an EF-whatever by watching a chase video. That sort of thing is done after the fact by surveying the actual damage.

Yeah but storm chasers who are currently in the chase usually use the EF rating to tell others how violent a tornado is

The one you see in the video has to be EF-4, there were 2 others that passed by Canton as well.

Which is kinda dumb to rate it after, because you'd have a wide, fast monster that only did damage to a corn field and getting an EF2 rating.

The EF-4 that was south and then west of Canton....... the sound it produced less than a half mile away was overwhelming. I can’t imagine how it was for the people right in the middle of the tornado!

This was the EF3. The EF4 dissipated a little before this one formed.

That tornado had a wicked inflow flowing in at 0:53

Probably bad time to ask but what would a nuke do to a tornado?

I have to be honest this is an intriguing question. But better if asked what amount of force would be required to oppose the cyclonic direction. I.E can sound waves or a massive opposing wind force of some kind displace the funnel?

If it was a really big nuke, I'd guess the initial pressure wave might displace the ground circulation and weaken the tornado momentarily. Plus all the heat from the fireball would definitely have some type of effect. This is actually a really interesting question.

A nuke would displace the entire storm because it would create an area such intense high pressure for miles. And high pressure kills storms.

what stage was the tornado in f4 or f5?

It would help to know which direction you are facing.

These tornadoes hit three counties. Mine was the last one. We saw a funnel move across our pasture about 1/2 mile west of us, thats from our front door. It didn't touch down all the way but did enough wind damage to knock trees over and tear up a fence. Thankfully us, our cattle, or neighbors were not hurt.

HOLY SHIT!!! This is also First Monday weekend in Canton, so there were a lot of flea marketers in town for the weekend. My daughter lives down near there and she said there are many casualties.

Devastating damage and I'm so sorry for the loss of life. Praying for the families of those lost and for those fighting to recover. Also praying (and very proud of) the brace emergency personnel. True Heroes! Not to lose sight of the more important factor, but this was an important tornado for study. It had incredible storm structure with very clear updraft, downdraft, and inflow. There was great opportunity to study this and possibly learn better technology to save lives.

yea, it hit alot. my wife's friends house in canton got demolished. they are ok, but thier property is wiped out. we got a bit of it here in sulphur springs, 2 friends and i watched it. I saw something explode south of us down 19, big orange flashes. if anyone knows what it was, post it, it looked like artillery shells going off.

That was a total big one. Kinda like the tornado in Van in 2015. At least Canton is a very isolated city. I remember we were driving through here the day after en route to Fort Worth and I saw some of the damage.

My husband and I were there too! We just got a room. We were terrified along with many people parked all around us. Thank God we are alive. Some aren't.

It was rated at EF-3 but I think it could have done EF-5 damage.

My gosh, I'm sure glad my grandparents decided to go to the Rangers game instead of going to Canton to look at Dogs. They got to see Gomez hit for the cycle and got bobble heads instead of seeing this massive thing..

If this thing gets anything less than an EF4 rating, I'll be very surprised. No way in hell it's less than an EF3. Crazy how a storm like this happened on a day with relatively low projected risk. I hope the victims of this storm are able to recover, and for those who died, may they be remembered.

This one is still preliminary an EF-3. This is the one that hit Canton. There is one that was rated preliminary as an EF-4, but that didn't cross I-20. But, honestly, that doesn't look like I-20 to me, like it says it is in the vid's description. If it's not I-20, then it could be the EF-4 (but the EF-4 rating is still preliminary).

My father-in-law was dj-ing a wedding in a barn and got hit by that tornado.He is in surgery now to try and reattach his foot from a piece of tin that cut it while he was flying in the air.

Hard to tell from the video; I don't think all wedges tend to be EF5. I know they sent out a survey team but they didn't finish because it got dark.

Nah, it would probably be rated an EF3 or an EF4 because an EF5 would level neighborhoods stripped to the earth, deep ground-scarring, and trees completely debarked or uprooted.

That's definitely a Grandpa Tornado the baby tornadoes are so cute!! If it was ever a family of tornadoes than I'd say it would be time to .....RUN!! & not be an idiot & a fool to try mess around with them they kill people & destroy homes costing trillions of dollars
