The 300mm f2.8 is one of the best lenses you can buy for sport photography. The Series II IS lenses were known for performing well with the series III tele converters.

I think we have different definitions of "compact". I just bought the mk i. Hope it wasn't a mistake, but so far I'm happy.

I got my 1DX mounted on 300 2.8 L non IS and basically weight is downside compared to newest IS Mark II, which you are holding now, it still better lens for 300mm where you can carry around without break the bank for 400 f2.8 and 600 f4 , easy convertable via teleconverter. Anyway , great video and i can tell it is very popular telephoto lens

Thank you for the video. Canon EF 300mm f/2.8L IS II USM is my ultimate telephoto. I call it my composite 600mm as I always use it with Canon EF 2x III extender mounted on my 1DIV. As you said, image quality drop is hardly noticeable though AF gets a tad slower. This rig is good enough for static subjects and some action too. I use it on tripod or monopod and sometimes handheld also. However, for bird flight shots; I use EF 400mm f/5.6L with 7D. Don’t feel any pressing need for the mirrorless system. My DSLRs can do it all. Thanks again.

Thanks to u too. R7 like 90D is cramed with too many pixels. It will certainly be poor performer in low light and produce more noise. I'm convinced R10 will perform better in this particular area. I would buy this model if I wanted to! IMO, R3 is Canon's ultimate action camera at present. However, even that body fires just half as many shots compared to my 1DIV in one charge. This short battery life issue can never be resolved on MILC due to over-consumption. BTW, getting rid of this awesome lens is out of question because, Canon has not yet introduced its RF version.

How about showing some sample images next time.

If your so worried about focus speed on all of your lenses with or without teleconverters, you should really save up and buy a 1DX or newer 1 series camera bodies. They are the only camera body that is designed specifically for teleconverters on Super telephoto lenses. Due to having a larger battery pack the focus on the lens does not slow down with any teleconverters used. If you have a 5,6,or 7 series camera bodies regardless if it’s mirrorless or a DSLRthe focusing Will slow down when using a Tele converter.
