I was hoping you'd do some really low light level shots. I get what the numbers mean on an intellectual level, but I don't have a feel for what that actually gives you. For instance, could I get a decent pre-dawn landscape shot in an area with no light pollution? Does a partial moon provide enough light? What's its limit?

would be muchhhh better if this premium lens using much modern linear motor instead of using older, louder, heavier, slower, smaller, less smooth, less power efficient rotary USM. Nano USM much better option at least, but it cant handle heavier lens element. Its like a bottleneck of the system, especially when Canon got very accurate & fast AF +high burst rate, yet the lenses using slow AF mechanism. you would notice slower AF when focusing close to far subject. I would say this lens overpriced as it didnt put latest tech in it. Even 3rd party lenses now have linear motor , Sigma HLA , Tamron VXD even Samyang using on their cinema V-AF lineup. Hoping next Canon lenses can employ newer Linear AF motor that fair better with upcoming Quad pixel AF

@@wh17efox sinmole answer: no. Beginners need to learn a lot more technique before spending top dollar to get 3% better performance than with a cheaper lens that costs a fraction of the f1.2 Buying f1.2 lens for 2000 dollars wont give you good images if your technique is flawed. If you are interested, watch the old digitalrevTV videos where they hand pro photographers shitty toy cameras. They manage to make stunning photos

The lack of IS can matter more when your body does not have IBIS, such as my R10. Having to bump the shutter speed negates some of the advantage of a prime’s aperture. (I wouldn’t buy up to the 50/1.2 before having a higher end body, still working with the 50/1.8!)

Some day I will probably buy a L lens or a similar lens which is really a great lens. And also ecpensive. Also, is it really a must to use filters to get the best possible landscape shots sometimes? Just thinking cause in the past people didn't use them and still got amazing results.
