    Despite nit-pickers and people who need a chill pill, your reviews are excellent. They give us the info we need to make an informed decision on what system or component to invest in whether amateurs, like myself, or pros. Mirrorless is a game changer and eventually I hope they moderate in price like flat screen TV's did since the time they first came out. Thanks for providing a valuable service to the photography enthusiasts, whether amateur or pro.

    Hi Jared great series of videos. The reason they've added a lock (1:26), I hope, is to stop zoom creep when it's pointing down on a tripod eg overhead product or macro shots. My EF 24-70 is smooth and tight but the zoom creeps ever so slowly when pointing down - so much so I've had to use gaffer tape or elastic bands :/

  • @gameshoes
    @gameshoes4 жыл бұрын

    I think that the lock mechanism is for when the lens is stowed in a bag with the hood on. Sometimes the hood can catch on something, and start pulling the lens. I have had a few lenses do this so I try to engage the lock (if there is one) before putting the lenses away.

    Thank you, finally someone mentions this back cap issue with RF. It is horrible. Both Canon EF and Nikon F caps are symmetric and can be put on blindly in 3 possible orientations, worse case turn 120 degree. Here this thing jams if put on wrongly, requires up to 360 degree turn. Stunning. When I wrote about that in dPreview forum, Canon fanboys who probably never change a lens in dim light or on the move, replied with a hurricane of objections "what, a lens cap, you are so wrong to write that." It is sad that Canon, a pro oriented camera maker commits this unforced error with this cap design.

    Hey Jared. Question. I have this lens and I noticed it has some significant distortion (stretching) of the image near the sides. This usually only becomes noticeable when I turn the camera sideways for vertical shots (resulting in elongated heads for example). Is there any fix for this besides shooting larger than necessary and cropping? I tried fiddling around with the correction in PS but it doesn't seem to make any perceptible difference.

    How is the dust sealing on this particular RF lens? I've heard photographers having a nightmare with Tamron and Sigma's current 24-70 due to dust getting sucked in to the lens due to poor sealing on the extending lens barrel. To your knowledge, does the RF F2.8 24-70mm L have a filter between the extending barrel and the main barrel to prevent dust from getting sucked into the lens? Or in your extensive use of the lens, have you detected any issues with dust [long term use]?

    It will probably give a lot of vignetting using filters at 180 mm f2.8, as it's too narrow. It should have been 68,2 mm minimum, without filters. So wait for Sigma 70-200 sports lens. Guess it will be announced sometimes in the first quarter of 2020.

    @@fredbjoern I love it so far! Coming from a Nikon P1000 and b4 that, Sony Cybershot dsc-qx30. its just an awesome camera to use an play with. this is my first real mirrorless I have ever owned. I currently have the RF 24-240mm f4-6.3 lens, sigma 150-600mm f5-6.3 DG contemporary using the included adapter that came with the RP, recently got RF 35mm f1.8. They take awesome pictures. [sucks 4 me that the prices drop for the Canon RP a few weeks back even cheaper than when I first got it]. As for the RF 24-105mm i haven't gotten that lens, but avoid the 24-240mm rf lens cuz it seems to have trouble focusing between 35-70mm! I'm working on a few videos of each lens with the Rp body. Subscribe to my channel to see the quality of each as do a review of my findings taking pictures and videos with each of the lenses! So take the leap an get the RP. The flip touch screen is a joy to have as well as the fully touch function it has to quickly flip through settings an the menu layout. Mr FRO also has a settings guideline video to best set the camera up, which you can further dial in settings of your own to suit your shooting style! just two more lens i wanna add are the Rf 15-35mm and the RF 70-200mm. Only thing holding me back is the price. Before this year is out i will have one of those to add to my kit! Hope this long reply helps you out!

When I got the R5, I realized there is no RF24-70mm f/4, so I got the RF24-105mm f/4 which is the closest thing. I was worried the RF24-70mm f/2.8 might weigh the same as the massive beast.

    The Canon 24-70 2.8 with IS should have been on the last Canon 24-70 2.8 II. Nikon had their 24-70 2.8 with VR for long time. And now the have it for the mirroless only. Since I use two cards for weddings on my Canon 5dkmk3 (yes I had few times when one card went bad) so the the Canon mirrorless with one card DOES NOT work for "ME", After playing with the Sony 7aiii and the camera having built-in IS, I sold all my canon cameras and few old lenses. I got two Sony 7aiii and the Sony 24-70 2.8, I also kept my Canon 85 1.4 IS which with the MC-11 works great with the Sony. I feel Canon needs to move faster and their marketing dept listen more to people comments as many are switching after even decades with them. i was over 20 years with Canon and my clients are doing their events and not waiting on companies to do their special days. Hi Jared! Bid fan here of your videos. Hope to see you when I go to Philly next time!

    Wait, what do you mean "the EOS R and the EOS RP do not have image stabilized censors". I thought that they do have in body image stabilization because on my EOS RP I can turn on and off IS in the settings. Is this switch on the RF 24-70 just a faster and easier way to turn that feature on and off without having to go into settings?

    I have this lens and have been using it on the ‘R’ for a couple of weeks now and I completely agree, it’s amazing! It really makes the R feel like a ‘real’ camera and I would argue it is one of the best pieces of Canon glass ever made! ❤️

    Jared, if we want to make a proper review of this lens, we should directly compare it with the legendary Canon 24-70 f/2.8L II USM lens - preferably on a DSLR (not a mirrorless with adaptor). Because if the "old" L glass on a DSLR gives better image quality results, that would be a shock for the "mirrorless dream"! Do we dare make such a comparison ?! Thanks for the wonderful reviews, by the way, keep working with passion!

    The processing on these is fantastic! The FroPack really does a great job! However, I do notice a lot of shadow noise (white specs) on these, and also noticed the same on the A7RIV samples as well on your real world review. I've found this "white spec" noise to be more bothersome than even chroma noise. It's caused by hot pixels in the shadow area being recovered, then chroma noise reduction turning them white.

    Would be interesting indeed but very few chances that happens. Haven't you noticed that there is already never any direct comparisons of the new ML lenses vs their more "ancient" DSLR versions...? So I guess it will be the same for ML lenses no direct comparison from a brand to another.

Coming from eos 6d, which was perfect for my hand! This lens is now 2200€ in one big shop and 250€ cash back from Canon because I bought camera body... So only 1950€

    The control ring is correct on the 70-200 mm. In the future I think they will move it back on the other lenses as well. For me I plan to buy a 20 mm and a 50 mm primes art lenses from Sigma, to avoid the control ring, and the 70-200 mm from Canon, when they get a good camera with joystick. According to Attilio Ruffo you only need these 3 lenses as a landscape shooter.

    Long time fan, rare commenter. Always enjoy your take on things. I agree that the rear cap on these RF lenses is problematic, but I was surprised to hear that you're putting the cap back on when you switch lenses at a concert. Is this common? I never put my caps back on any lenses I'm using on a shoot. They just go in and out of my side bag and I make sure before each shoot that I don't have any random shrapnel in there. Anyway, just curious. Apart from that, keep it up and thanks for all the useful, candid and truly entertaining content over the years.
