Canon RF 135 1.8 Quick Take - For Headshots? (soccer⚽️ and pets🐶)

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

Canon's new 135 1.8 is drawing a lot of attention. Watch this video as I test it for studio headshots. And then I take it out to a soccer game and dog park. ‪@CanonUSA‬

Portraits and headshots. I got my RF135 a month ago and I love it.

I have shot many pictures of table tennis with a crop camera and an 85mm lens that is comparable to 135 on a full frame. Now that I have a full frame I am interested in this lens. The subject distance is about 10m so 135 mm is nice. Indoor sports is limited by high shutter speed requirements and limited lighting so large aperture is very useful.

great video with lots of amazing sample images. I'm thinking about getting this lens and using the 1.6 crop mode for kinda 2 focal lengths. I'm not too sure for now, it'll be for my children's sports. I think the 70-200/2.8 will be better for my purposes, but the 1.8 would be pretty neat and kinda makes my images stand out. I wish i was out of the bokeh stage and into the story telling stage in my photography, but honestly, i still do the bokeh thing and my story telliing images are terrible. I'd say for children candids, 50mm + 135mm combo would be pretty solid choices. thanks for a great video! im still deciding and thinking about the 135 1.8

Thanks for watching, yes, story telling is key. But bokeh is nice too!

Great leans, but while missing stabilisation, my Sigma Art 135 f1.8 doesn't come short with sharpness and focus precision, so I'll stick with it. I would love to trade it for the Canon, but it cost 4/5 times as much the reselling value of the Sigma, and it's definitely not 4/5 times better.

No reason to change if the Sigma is working for you.

Not sure why shooting at 1.6 crop factor using a full frame is worthwhile--except maybe for magnifying the subject. (But as you said, Canon's AF is very good, so it should be able to track a person a soccer player running anywhere on a field at 135mm.) No resolution is gained, but less composition options? Wouldn't we get the same results exactly by just cropping the full frame image? On the other hand, an APS-C body has denser pixels, so that's when we'd see a resolution boost from the "crop factor." Otherwise, your thoughts about this lens, and examples of real-world use are extremely helpful. Thank you.

Thanks for watching. Yes I agree, composition is limited but I’ve always liked to crop in camera.

I have yet to peep all your videos, so forgive me if you've already covered this, but have you tried the Sigma 105mm adapted? When I had my R5, I wanted to pick that up so bad. I think it sits very comfortably between an 85 and 135.

Would this lens be too long for indoor volleyball and HS basketball? The f/1.8 is enticing.

the EF 135 has been my go to lens for volleyball, and other indoor, for years. can get bit tight but you do get full body pics of mid court players from the sidelines. so focal length shouldnt be an issue

Is this lens focus fast enough for sport (hockey) ?
