This was a very expensive video for me! I recently got the R6 (Mk I) and had been contemplating on getting some video accessories now that I finally have a pretty video-capable camera. Then I stumbled upon this video which so neatly showed everything I need, and it got me inspired. Several hundreds of dollars later I have an almost identical setup as here. 🙈

The only major thing missing for me really is a place to mount my external audio recorder to capture the audio coming from the Rode Wireless GO receiver - having that allows me to of course capture that external audio and also to plug in a headphone without attaching it directly to the camera. Using a left and right-hand handle with the cold shoe on top might allow me an open space to mount that external audio recorder

This is a really helpful video. I do wish it was more exposed. It was really hard to see the details on the black cage and the battery pack.
Great detailed video, thanks Josh! SO, there is now the "Black Mamba" Smallrig 4161 which looks "better" from what I can see regarding access to the buttons on the top right of the camera, however, it doesn't have nato rails which are useful for handles as you know (I have the same handles you do already) - Of course you can always add a nato rail, but I really liked the fact this cage you have has nato rail built-in and the screw options all there. Is there anything else you notice that is different/missing? I like the new profile of the black mamba but don't want to miss out on the features of this cage. Would really appreciate your thoughts.
Great video thank you! I tried mounting an atmos on my r6 mark 2 but couldn't figure out how to retain control of the back of the camera screen so I could control focus

Sooo glad ya did a rigging video. Thanks much as always Josh! Quick questions: - are there no locating pins on base plate for bottom of R62/Smallrig cage? - with the strap mounts, still able to utilize the peak design style strap? Or does that mount “fill” the strap loop? I like keep my cage on (nearly) permanently, guessing you could utilize some of the other smallrig mount holes for PD loop mounts? Appreciate it!
@Josh_Sattin
Жыл бұрын
You're welcome. I don't see any location pins on the bottom of the cage (both where the camera touches it and on the bottom where that arca swiss is). I don't know specifically about the peak design strap, but there are two strap attachment points on the right side of the camera. One at the top and one at the bottom.
That xlr module looks sweet. That rig at the end looks like the most useful option for doc style shooting. I hope rode or deity come out with a shotgun mic that can use the multi interface connection.

Id love to see a XLR module from both Canon, Lumix and Sony that will somehow be more compatible with top handles or at least a top handle similar to the sony but has arri locating pins at the front to mount a monitor lower than the hot shoe mount. Both the Lumix and Tascam XLR modules are great but cumbersome if you want to run a top handle as well! Perhaps they could create a hotshoe cord mount that connects hooks into the hotshoe, then cables over to the XLR module that will allow you to mount the XLR module on some other cold-shoe mount out of the way
Very helpful!

Thank you for this video. Mine point of view on rigging (especially R6MKII) is - be careful. When buying Ninja V + HDD + XLR handle + battery will shoot your budget to C70 level, which is better cine camera...
Thanks for the very detailed video, have you tried the Smallrig with the meike drop in filter adaptor? It looks like it may be difficult to change the filter with the rig on.
Great video! Thanks a lot... one of the most underrated channels on you tube on my opinion. What's holding me back for building up rigs is the fact, that I do not know how to transport them. Very informative. I currently am using the Rode video Mic pro on camera with the R6 MK II. When I can I will use the Zoom H4N. What audio advantages or benefits would I hear with using the NTG5 and the Tascam XLR mount? Most of my shoots are Multicam with 2-3 cameras. I match the Audio between the Rode Video Mic and the Zoom and use the Zoom audio in the FCPX audio track. Any suggestions or answers are appreciated.
@Josh_Sattin
Жыл бұрын
If you are running the NTG5 into the H4N, I would assume the quality would be similar to running the NTG5 into the Tascam unit. The benefits of using the Tascam unit instead of an external recorder is that you don't need to sync the audio in post as the audio will already be incorporated into the video file.
What cable do you recommend for connecting the camera to the Video Input of the Ninja V? Also, can the usb input on the camera be connected to the battery's usb output to power the camera?
Спасибо за обзор! А вы не сравнивали эту клетку с клеткой black mamba (артикул 4161 на оффициальном сайте smallrig)? Мне кажется, что она удобнее в плаге того, что не закрывает сверху элементы управления камерой 🤔
Thanks Josh for all this info you’re sharing. It’s all very helpful. I was ready to upgrade to this camera but I just heard that camera’s LCD shuts off when you attach external monitor.
