Canon PowerShot A400 Disassembly / Repair

Ғылым және технология

I used this document to find out where the screws are and if any are hidden.
Canon PowerShot A400 Parts Catalog: elektrotanya.com/canon_powers...
The issue with my camera was that the pads that switch the camera into video recording mode were so oxidised (rusty) that the switch wasn't making proper contact and was thus switching into Gallery mode. I used a knife to clean the pads which I DO NOT recommend, but I didn't have a contact cleaner nor was in the mood to try alcohol or vinegar. Just gently scratching the pads with a knife resolved my issue. I recorded this video afterwards because I think that there should be at least one video showing how to disassemble the camera, so that whoever needs to know can know where all the screws are without breaking anything. The tiny crack on the top of my camera was there before the disassembly, it's an old camera. But I would still advice to be gentle and careful when pulling it apart.
The camera asks for the date and time so often because I didn't replace the tiny battery that's for the clock. This battery can be found just below the normal two AA bateries.
If you feel like it do write a comment, I read all of them!

Hi there! I hope you liked my video. From what I've been able to research, error E18 is about the lens, more specifically about the lens not extending full or at all. While I can't test it on my camera, because it still works normally and because I'm currently in another country, I would suggest that you check out these links: - www.e18error.com/repair.html - www.ifixit.com/Answers/View/4090/PowerShot+digital+camera+lens+won't+extend+-+get+an+E18+error - en.wikipedia.org/wiki/E18_error This one has the same E18 error but they do have a slightly different camera, but you might still find it useful: www.ifixit.com/Teardown/Canon+PowerShot+S500+Teardown/1261 From what I've read, the repair usually just involves cleaning whatever dirt might be stuck in or around the lens, which can require you to disassemble it, if you decide to do so, please be careful not to touch the contacts from the capacitor, it can give you an incredibly strong shock. Capacitor is the big cylindrical thingy that I point at at 6:01, it may look differently on your camera, but the shape should be very similar! I hope you manage to fix the issue! If there's any other way I can help just say, I practically live on KZread, but since my channel doesn't have a lot of traffic I sometimes don't notice new comments, I hope you didn't wait too long!

Hello. I can see that you are professional in this so if i may ask. I have few older Canon cameras like A640 which works and looks great but picture is not displaying like there is no CCD. But every other function, menu, loading photos from memory everything works perfectly. What might be the issue?

I'm sorry to disappoint you, but I'm sadly not a professional 😓. That being said, when you try to take a photo, does the camera actually take it, or is it all just black when you try to look at the photo either on the camera or on the computer? I would guess that if the photo is black or anything else than the actual photo, that they might be something wrong with the sensor. But if you do actually see a normal photo then perhaps the display is just turned off. My camera had a small button next to the display with Disp. written on it and if I press it multiple times the display turns off, perhaps on your camera the display got turned off in a similar way. You could also try factory resetting the camera, but please do make sure that you've saved all of your photos, because you might lose them during the factory reset! I hope you manage to resolve the issue and if you do, please do come back and tell me how you did it, so that is anyone else has the same issue they'll be able to find the solution here!

hi i have the same camera but when i try to turn it on, it turns on then off immediately after. Ive tried to replace the batteries, sd card, and with the help of your video tried to check if the problem is with the button, but none have worked, so i just wanted to ask in case you know of any solutions to the problem.

I moved recently and I didn't take the camera with me, so I can't test my hypothesis, but could you check the tiny battery that's hidden in the battery compartment? I don't know the reason why you're having the issue, but that's about all that you can easily replace. Even though I do believe that the battery is just for the camera to remember time. The battery is a tiny coin cell battery at the bottom side of the battery compartment, once you see it, you can't miss it. That being said, my first thought and the reason it took me a bit to reply, was that I thought that some capacitors could have died, those are replaceable, but being comfortable around a soldering iron is a must and having an oscilloscope is a bonus, none of which I have with me, now that I moved... Best of luck I hope you manage to fix it. I do wish I could have taken a closer look, to see what's really the problem, because I feel like I've experienced the same in the past, but I can't remember.

You could also try using alkaline batteries, when I googled about the issue it seems that this fixed the issue for some.
