When I lift the lid to change an ink cartridge, there is a red, sticky piece of plastic covering a square shaped projection on the left hand side. What's it for?

I got this printer free I thought you could feed what you want copied in the back instead of scanning each sheet individually like my current printer but seems mine is better.

i got my canon mp287 but i only uses color cartridges whenever i send the print command frm my pc but for photo copyi ng it uss black

@luke4smith Just out of the box was what I hoped you wouldn't say ha. As far as i can remember I've always just used the ink that came with it. With the first few prints I just thought it was getting used to printing with the cartridges but it still happens so maybe it's a fault. They were being sold in Tesco for 50% off so possibly a bad batch :(

can you make xerox of a page using this printer without connecting it to computer?

I bought this a few months ago but have since only printed text documents and scanned in images. Anytime I try to print a picture it comes out in awful quality. The colours are all off, the image comes out much darker and the resolution seems to be lower. Your print looks professional next to mine so I'm wondering whats wrong. The only thing I can think of is I should buy new ink. What sort do you use in yours? An answer would be greatly appreciated :)

This printer has some memory. I give him command to print me a word file text... and it prints me some old stuff that i was printing every time..I checked print que files and its the correct file is qued.. i dont know why it prints old stuff always the same

Cool. This video inspired me to buy one. One hour ago I just bought it :D. Can't wait to get it home. Until now I had a Canon Pixma IP1600(quite old nowadays...). Two days ago it refused to recognize the cartridges(I refilled them). Now this makes me ask you 3 questions: Cartridges included? If yes, they last reasonably long? It is safe to refill cartridges? Thank you for the video!

@@attainascend Quite a random comment :)). And it sort of is and isn't. I still "use" the printer, but sometime I have the feeling I want to throw it out the window. Cartridges are expensive, so I resorted to refilling but that only works a couple of times before the cartridges go bust. Right now the color cartridge is broken (the ink jet part has dried ink), so even if I want to print B&W only, it doesn't always work because it has in store a lot of error codes for you :)). Oh and to add insult to injury, inkjet printers (at least this one) have a suction cup that "prepares" the cartridges for printing. This sucks ink into a sponge, so it both consumes more of the little ink a cartridge has and in time that sponge gets clogged and will probably throw yet another error. So just a few days ago, I bought a laser printer-scanner. Hopefully these things are more reliable...

How can I scan continuously using this printer? It only scans one page.
