Canon 600D master flash setting
Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль
I was asked a question about using the Oloong SP-660 ii as a wireless slave flash with the Canon 600D/Rebel T3i/Kiss X5 camera.
This video is in repsonse to that question and shows how you set the master mode on the camera itself. I also show you a couple of photos illustrating some differences when you use the slave flash and the built-in flash, compared to use a slave flash.
There are lots of ways you can combine the lighting, to get the effect you want, but unless you have the master/commander mode, you can't do it. Fortunately, the 600D has that facility so you just need a suitable wireless slave flash.
I think the Oloong SP 660 ii is a pretty good slave flash for the money and best of all, you can use it with Nikon systems OR Canon systems. It doesn't work as a TTL flash on-camera, however, but as a slave flash it works a treat.
If you have any questions, please leave a comment. If you have any suggestions or requests for just let me know and I'll see what I can do.
These days there are much more powerful and sophisticated flashes. Personally I like the Godox range (I have several of them).

thanks for the great help. I am more or less beginner in flash photografie use the 650D and did not realize that i can use ist as master flash without sending a flash from the on board camera. So it was extremly helpful to let me know the settings on the camera. Great video.
big thanks, puzzled about this for hours searching on the internet to get my 600d to trigger the YN565ex, your video told me exactly what i was searching for.
Thank you for explaining the settings for flash control.
This was brilliant ! Thank you so much !
That was really helpful. Thank you!
crystal clear explainations ! thanks!
My staff & I always parked the ATG Gold Elite Battery Pack/Nissin PS300 Battery Pack/Quantum Turbo Battery Pack if you want quick recycle times. You should get the ATG AK1 Un-Tethered Systems for shooting wirelessly to pc. My staff found out that AK1 is also comparable on 600D (in USA is 60D). So we sold all of the Canon WFT craps on Craigslist. Always, nice & straight answers from you.
Thanks this video was really helpful to me

Keep up the great work, still don't know how to thank you enough!
Well Done MGR, what an informative work, i was confused also for choosing a speedlite and was considering Youngos :) but now at least iv found a good wireless speed lite, i will use it off camera only :)
Thank you very much
great video! very helpful! :)

Very helpful thanks
Wow, that was a quick comment. Thanks!
Thanks, Josh. I know that seeing something being set up a particular way is often much easier to follow than reading pages and pages in an instruction manual. That's why I made this video for JamesGamesMusic, who had asked me a question about Oloong flashguns and the Canon 600D.
You're very welcome. The Oloong SP-660 ii is a pretty nice flashgun for the money, but only if you are happy to use E-TTL off camera. To do that you need a camera with master flash settings, or the separate Canon flash controller. The SP-660 ii also works as a TTL slave flash for Nikons, so it's a very versatile flashgun. :)
Apologies for not replying, Paul. The Oloong SP-660 II is a pretty good flashgun at around £70 and it can also work as a wireless slave with both Nikon and Canon, but it's manual on-flash. The Oloong SP-690 II is available for about £100 on ebay in a Canon version that does E-TTL on and off camera.
You're very welcome, James.
Thank you sooooooo much
It needs to be able to 'see' the flash from the camera so it depends whether you're indoors or outdoors. Indoors, the reflections from walls might help you if the off camera flash is not in direct line of sight of the on-camera flash. Outdoors, assuming good line of sight, you should be ok up to about 30 feet. It does depend on the weather - very, very bright weather can make it less likely to work.
Thanks. the slave mode in some flashes is an option but I am not sure that I can rely on slave flashes on an occasion
Cool! Glad it helped. I like the look of the YN565ex, but I couldn't quite stretch to one (overspent on so many other things!) How have you found it in use?

Thank you for your tutorial I have a big problem the option "flash control" does not appear in my menu on my canon I do not understand yet my wireless flash is well installed can you help me?
is the 600d capable of high speed sync
very good tutorial. someone please please tell me how to use high speed sync on the 600d using the 430 exii canon speedlite. i am really stuck....
Would you recommend this flash as a first (beginner's) flash to buy?
Hi, Thanks for the video. Can the camera also triger the outside flash with a flash that is on the hot shoe (not the built in flash)?
Someone asked if it has to be a Canon branded flash to work as a wireless slave. No, it just has to be compatible with the Canon system, but there are several brands which do that now. The one I'm using here is the Oloong brand and it works as a wireless slave for both Canon AND Nikon camera systems.
I havea 600d and a Yongyuo 560 IV flash - its a manula flashi, which means When I set my Camera Ratio 8:1 (Yongyuo : In camera flash) it does not affect the Yonyuo and only just lessen the Output of the In camera flash. Am I right ?
Hi. I watched you video with great interest and I found it quite informative, but could you possibly recommend a flashgun around the 100.00 mark that works both on and off the camera please. Thank you. Kind regards, Paul
Hi, I have a canon 600d and recently bought Speedlite YN460-II Digital Auto flash. I am however unable to use it on my camera, are they compatible? if yes, kindly assist configure it. Thanks
If you put a flashgun on the hotshoe, the built-in commander mode is disabled (it works using the pop-up flash). If you use a flash with a commander mode on the hotshoe then you can control external flashes with E-TTL retained, but those flashgunds are more expensive. You could trigger an external flash with a simple hotshoe flash if the external flash has the older type of slave setting - often called S1 and S2. If you do that, you have to set power manually.
Hi sir, I am worried my camera is not supporting auto mode when i am using my external manual flash and my external manual flash is a third party flash not canon flash lights
Hi, there. Great tutorial! But I have a question: I have a trigger that works fine to high speed sync with an offboard flash. It goes up to whatever speed the camera has. The 600d keeps pushing its speed to 200 (its maximum flash sync speed). Is there a way to override that kind of command? Maybe using a different software in the camera? I know of one but I can’t remember right now and I don’t know if it has a feature like that. Help?

I haven’t had the 600D for a long time so I can’t really remember the settings, I’m afraid.
HI don't have a 7D so I can't tell you anything about using that camera. I'm not sure you can use the flash on the 7D to trigger the one on the 600D though - that doesn't sound very likely. You can use the onboard flashes to trigger external flashes, but I don't think you can trigger the built-in flash on another camera. If you find a way to do it, I'd be very interested to hear how.
Hi sir I have a Canon 600 d and my inbuilt flash is not working. What should I do next ??? Are there any possibility that I can fix this problem ???
Sir i am using Yn565Ex with Canon d600 my ETTL is not showing on LCD of Speedlite its just showing TTL...how convert it into ETTL?please explain it
Hello, nice and very informative video. I have a question. I have a cannon KissX7i. I also have yongnuo 560 iv manual flash. So, Is it possible to remotely trigger the YN 560iv flash from my built in camera trigger like you showed in case of Oloong SP-660 ii? I tried it but couldn't make it work. Your suggestion on this will be highly appreciated. Thanks.

As far as I'm aware, you could probably trigger it with manual power settings but you'd need to buy a Yongnuo Canon trigger. It's some time since I last used Yongnuo (I now use Godox flashes) so I'm not 100% certain. I do have an old Canon, Yongnuo and some triggers so I'll dig them out and see if I can make it work. I don't have the 600D anymore, but I imagine the 7D will be somewhat similar.
help me please i cant see the flush settings in my 600d ,flush is not working
Hi, I got Canon 600D and YN460-II flash and when I set up my camera's settings just like in the video and use my flash as a slave (either s1 or s2) the flash triggers but in the picture there is no flash signs. However, sometimes it actually captures flash and u can see in photos but mostly not. It's like 1 out of 12.. I can't figure out is it cameras or flash's fault and why is this happening? Your help would be appreciated , thank you
It could be many different things, but it sounds like a setting is wrong somewhere. You may have exposure compensation set wrong, or if you are using manual settings they may be wrong for the amount of light your flash gives out. You'd have to provide a lot more information for anyone to make a good guess as to the problem, such as which lens? Which exposure mode? What settings for shutter and aperture? How far to your subject? Day or night? What ISO?
sir i have a problem i couldn't get rid of the error 30 for my 600d i tried everything turn off/on and reseting the battery but still whenever i shoot the error comes up!! Could u please help me...
Thanks for the tutorial, when i take the shot it seems that my shot is pretty dark, as though it is not catching the flash as all? any ideas as to why this is happening?

@@mygoodstuffreviewed Ty for your attention! Sadly i found that wireless trigger is not supported in my SL2, as i was trying to do... i had to use radio triggers now. Sorry, this isn't my first language =)
Its been really great for the money, loads of features as per the 3x dearer canon unit, robust build, fast recharge but the instruction manual is awful.
Hi, I am using Canon 600d since Feb 20013. I am very happy with my camera. I always use Manual only. I have full knowledge of aperture, shutter speed and ISO. But, since last one week I am noticing that when I pop-up my flash my light meter doesn't go up. Exposure level remains same whether I use flash or not use flash. As a result of this, photos are coming dark. I have cleared all my flash settings from Menu > Flash Control > Built-in flash func. setting. My Flash firing is Enable, my E-TTL Meter is Evaluative. Flash Exposure Component is 0. Picture Style is 0 White Balance is 0. Auto Lighting Optimizer is Standard. Built-in flash func. setting : Normal flash firing 1st-curtain flash synchro. Metering Mode : Evaluative Can anyone please help me what could have gone wrong with me for this dark photos?
hahaha, yes, their manuals are not all that clear, are they? I guess that's why KZread videos on this brand are so popular. I have the Oloong SP 660 ii which is TTL only in off-camera flash mode (which is weird), but it works with both Canon and Nikon systems so for anyone with both systems it's a nice choice. You have to be a bit mad to have both Canon and Nikon, but if you do it's nice to know there's a flash option that works as a TTL slave with both.

@@mygoodstuffreviewed I found out sir, for all others who are also looking for the answer is that: your camera is on auto mode or any other mode than P AV TV or manual. Flash control will be visible in menu settings only in the above-mentioned modes. However, sir I am playing it with since yesterday and still not able to trigger my flash while on the camera or off the camera. All seems okay to me but while clicking flash is not triggering I am using ttl mode. I got metz flash 44 AF 1
why don't I see "flash control" at the bottom of my settings?

Hi, at 6:28 what is the ratio used for?
@mygoodstuffreviewed
6 ай бұрын
When you’re using a multiple flash setup you can have the output power of each flash automatically dialled in (the ratio) to get a pleasing lighting effect, for portraits and the like. You can do it manually, of course, but using the ratio setting does the clever calculations for you, even if you move the off camera flash about. The built in flash is controlled by that ratio setting as is a suitable external flash.
External flash not working

You need to switch the camera to a manual mode to access more advanced menu features. i.e. M, Av, Tv, or P.
Does Canon 1200D support HSS or not

Why my Canon 600d doesn't shot at night with kitlens
@mygoodstuffreviewed
2 жыл бұрын
You can shoot with the kit lens at night, but you have to use exposure settings that work for the lower light levels. Whether you’ll be able to get sharp photos at night with the kit lens depends on your ability to hold the camera steady, as well as the shutter speed.
How use external manual flash with live view?
@mygoodstuffreviewed
11 ай бұрын
Your settings in live view would determine exposure for a manual flash, just as they would when using the optical viewfinder. I don’t think there’s any difference in the settings you’d use. You’d just match them to the flash output. I don’t have the camera anymore so I can’t try it out to make a video to answer your question, I’m afraid.
