Sad times for stills photographers. This means the 24mm will be crippled for stills, and Sony will feel no need to update their half decade old 24 Prime, if Canon is going to neuter their 2024 24 Prime

This is the first RF f/1.4 and hybrid lens, right? Anyway, I am super excited to see such features in RF lenses, well done Canon!
If they get out a 20, 24, 50, 85 at f1.4 in this ~size/weight/price we can all finally shut up about the missing middle lineup. If that still takes years, then it's still frustrating.
Looks pretty good to me, people have been wanting a updated version of the EF 35 and now they have it
The one we've been waiting for...
The biggest surprise is the price it is literally less than half the price of old 35L II EF if you consider inflation 50% over last 8yr
I purchased this lens a few days ago and took it out for some street photo ops. Mixed emotions about this lens. F/1.4 looks soft and at times the lens is just not overly sharp anywhere. I am only a photo shooter not video. I may be taking this lens back and just pick up the 35mm f/1.8 I have the 50mm f/1.8 and that lens seem much sharper. When shooting the Nikon 35mm f/1.4 on my D4s that lens was sharp, sharp. Sometimes I do regret going ML???
EL 10 is a no go for the R5 and R5C?? Wow didn’t expect that

Nothing new about that, canon in middle of transitioning to new flash shoe for a couple of years now

I'm not too happy about EL-10 not working with the EOS R5.
It is totally silent when focusing or does it have the tick tick tick noise all other RF lenses make? Thanks.

Silent. I have one
Question: i noticed the R5C in the intro clip was not connected to the gimbal using usb c The R5C does not allow for Bluetooth connectivity to the ronin series for wireless shutter control How are you doing this?
@BandH

You can still balance a camera to the gimbal and not use the camera control settings.

1:39 this is probably the harshes bokeh I've seen out of a modern 35mm 1.4....
Always declicked? At least Sony has a switch on theirs. Canon kinda failed on this one. Shame as their old 35mm f/1.4L II is such a spectacular lens.

@@Dewabarasunderanexactly…this lens is trash…which makes me think it’s not meant for photographers. The R1 will arrive with the 35 mm F1.2 with a ring for stills
the rf 35mm f1.8 looks even better now. This thing has no IS.

In the age of ibis, and especially that wide, it's not a deal-breaker.

@@Zenutheduck-to4nr it’s not a deal breaker, it’s just unappealing. There’s nothing impressive about this lens. Canon had one job, make the 35mm f1.2 to complement the RF 85 f1.2. I’m happy I picked up the 28-70 f2 cause I got tired of waiting on it. I appreciate the 35mm f1.8 a lot more now, that lens is a lot more versatile than this new lens they announced imo.

@@TUTWZRD Nothing impressive? Image quality is a lot better than on the RF 35/1.8.
Canon slowly eases away from the stills shooter. If the R5ii rumors are true . . . let's just hope Canon opens up a new line of stills-oriented camera bodies.

I certainly don’t see that as the case, how are they possibly hindering photo shooters with this lens? To me I think there embracing the modern photographer, who is forced to do video as well because of the demand from the industry Not many photographers nowadays don’t shoot a little bit of video on the side

@@chromatic_timesthe fact that the aperture ring doesn’t work in photo mode is just silly
@chromatic_times

@@timothysteenwyk2978 I’ll admit they should have done that but the 24-105 doesn’t have it either. They MAY allow that feature in future firmware updates 🤷♂️🤷♂️
Canon has been neglecting photographers for too long to focus on video features…
Sorry. A non functional aperture ring in photo mode? Who in their right mind thought that was an acceptable idea? Guess I’ll just have to stick with basically every other lens manufacturer who isn’t a bunch of penny-pinching bean-counters. 👎🏼

You are aware you can control the aperture in the front ring for stills, just like every other lens, right?
