Cannonball Run - How are these guys not in JAIL? - Past Gas #29-30

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

In this TWO-PARTER!, we dive into the history of the “Cannonball Baker Sea-to-Shining-Sea Memorial Trophy Dash”, a cross-country race from New York City to Los Angeles. This real life event inspired a film of the same name, but as we’ll see, the real thing was a lot more than Burt Reynolds’ mustache. We explore the history of American cross-country racing, including early records, and why the 1971 running was organized as a protest against the government! We also examine some of the wackier competitors of the race: a van disguised to look like an ambulance, a group of racers dressed like priests- this one’s kooky folks!

Crown Vics (In very very sparse and shrinking numbers within police) are still used in Police forces in lower budget departments or reserves due to their long term usability. Having also grown up at the drag strip, my two favorite things were the smell of race gas being burned by the engines, and feeling the vibration from a T/F Funny Car or Dragster reverberate through my chest from barely 25ft away at launch. Fucking mind boggling how much power they have. If I could get greedy and throw in my 3rd, it’d have to be the jet cars. I loved them so much as a kid that I found out a way to mimic the sound they make while prepping and staging, if you’re wearing earplugs. It sounds the exact same to me whether I’m making that sound myself or at the track watching them with earplugs in. It’d be tricky to describe how I do it exactly, and I honestly can’t remember how I even figured it out, but it sounds the same to me and I still get a kick out of watching jet cars run when I get the chance.
