I think that you can clearly see that in this Royal Variery Show performance, Tommy Cannon and Bobby Ball were at the very pinnacle of their careers. They knew what worked and the sketch had everything I think. The wonderful interaction between the two of them, a bit of slapstic, Tommy's wonderful voice and pure wonderful pathos at the end when Tommy carried Bobby off the stage. Truly truly wonderful ! They were a superb comedy act and very very funny. Much much missed and Rest in Peace dear Bobby and thankyou so much for the memories and the laughs.

Pretty sure Tommy really wanted to be a singer. There's a very early video of them in the Wheeltappers and Shunters Club where Tommy really showed off a great voice and Bobby looked about 18 years old. Since they weren't at all topical and don't really have jokes per se the act has aged well. It's basically a love-hate relationship thing and I understand it ended with hate. Probably an occupational hazard of working very closely with one person. I understand the Laurel and Hardy and Morecambe and Wise were friends to the end though.
