I used to watched cannon and Ball on tv when I'm a little kid on Saturday evening
I love showing new people the iris sketch and watch their reactions when they pull her off the wall
1982 or thereabouts. When this episode was advertised in the TV paper, the writer said, far as I remember it, "in years to come this snooker sketch will be seen as a classic." Steve Davis is a good sport obviously. Tommy was a great straight man, and Bobby's costumed clown creation - like Ken Dodd's - was genius. Braces, desert boots, catchphrases, the whole lot. When they came on, we cheered up. And they were one-offs, they copied nobody. One can only imagine what they would have achieved with top notch writers.

I think I spotted the same pieces of the set from a couple of Classic DW stories, from Four to Doomsday and Terminus, I was waiting for a gag about the pin up girl, along the lines of being a 'heavenly body'.
Iris Williams OBE - although not mentioned in her Wiki - was also on the CSE circuit, entertaining the troops in the 1980s. She was pretty good live. And so, if memory serves, was Bob Carolgees with Spit the Dog on the same bill.
