Canning Chicken and Rice

This recipe has not been tested. You should not add rice to jars for canning if you are following government guidelines for canning. I do not recommend making this recipe if you are following government guidelines. This video is only for sharing part of my day with you.
Since it has been asked more than once in the comments, I figured I should just address the issue here: why would I throw out good chicken broth I had cooked the chicken in and use store-bought broth? To answer that question, I must first ask you this: have you ever boiled a couple chicken chest pieces in plain water for just a few minutes, not even long enough to cook them through, and then tasted that water? If not, I encourage you to do so (after you have boiled it for a few more minutes when the undercooked chicken is done!) and then compare it with the flavor of the broth bought from the store or broth you have made at home. Water that has been used to boil chicken for a few minutes can be used for many things, but perfectly good broth or stock, it is not. Cooking stock and broth require much more time and ingredients to give it that full-bodied flavor one desires of either. That, my friend, is why I didn't use the plain water of the boiled chicken.

    Thank you for stopping by! I'm so glad you enjoyed the video! Just make sure to do your research to understand what is and is not considered safe. I know we aren't supposed to can rice, but that is something I am comfortable doing in my own kitchen. I would never want anyone to think it is "approved". 😊 Happy canning and many blessings!

    If you don’t care for celery put it in a blender or food processor so there are no chunks or use a very small amount of celery powder.

    I am so disappointed with myself! I never wrote down what I put in the seasoning salt mix! 🙈😭 I know it had salt, pepper, garlic powder, parsley, and oregano, but I am pretty sure I asked my daughter to add in onion powder and turmeric. This turned out so well. I can't believe one of us didn't write it down!

    I didn't put it in the video because this is not an approved recipe that I can recommend you do. When I canned it, though, I canned at the same times and pressure I use for chicken. Where I live, the chicken is canned at 10lbs for 90 minutes. I encourage you to always research well before canning any recipe, including mine, that you find on the internet. 🥰

    That's another great idea! I've never thought about browning the chunks. I mostly use my canned chicken in things such as quesadillas or cold pasta salads. I guess browning for those wouldn't be practicality, but I am sure I can think of other things browned chunks would be perfect for! Thank you for stopping by and giving my the idea! I appreciate you visiting my channel!

    @mymodernhomestead

    Thank you for stopping by. This was one of my very first videos. I intentionally did not tell how long to process the jars because it is not an approve recipe here in America. I can't recommend others can this, but when I can it, I use the times/pressure one would use for canning meat. As far as the chicken stock, I don't find that cooking plain, boneless, skinless chicken breasts in plain water for 2-5 minutes renders much flavor or health benefits, but it certainty is fine for using as a cooking liquid for something else if you do this. Blessings to you!

    I know this is an old post and I promise I tried to let it go but the Good Lord wouldn't let me. How do you know its not safe to can? Who do you know that has gotten sick from eating canned rice? I would say NO ONE!. I have 4 (four) generations of family that have canned rice in one way or the other and they haven't gotten sick or died from it. Those are better odds than you get going to the local grocery store and buying dog food for your fur babies and believing it won't make them sick. God didn't make you lord of the internet so instead of trying to tell other people how they should live their lives, perhaps you should ask the Good Lord how you should be living yours because I'm pretty sure you trying to force your views and opinions on other people ain't it. I do understand this might be over the top and if you feel the need to delete it then thats fine. I just had to get it off my chest. Happy Canning and Thank You for a wonderful recipe.

    To all the pearl clutchers commenting on her video, for the love of God ( or whoever you believe in) please pay attention to what she said . She acknowledged it is not USDA certified and that she is not telling anyone to do it. Just showing how she does it! If you don't like the idea of rice being canned by all means follow the rest of the recipe and use as a good soup base, that you can dump in a pan and add rice to later . Please stop being so narrow-minded get what you find useful out of the video and ignore the rest like an adult . Just because you don't agree does not mean no one is allowed to see the video grow up
